Owl Sitting-in-a-Tree Scarf about 5 x 48

150 yards Plymouth Encore Bulky or similar amount of any bulky yarn (or worsted for a narrower scarf) US #10 straight needles (or needle size recommended for yarn used) Cable needle Yarn Needle for Kitchener stitch 4 buttons 5/16 inch diameter for eyes (optional) Sewing needle for buttons Embroidery floss for sewing buttons Gauge: not critical Stitches Required: C4B - Slip 2 stitches onto cable needle. Hold to back of work, k the next 2 stitches, then k the 2 stitches from the cable needle. C4F - Slip 2 stitches onto cable needle. Hold to front of work, k the next 2 stitches, then k the 2 stitches from the cable needle. Hint: I leave joins loose and stop every few inches to tighten stitches but, so I dont get mixed up, I only stop after a completed step #4

Knit 2 identical sections as follows: All odd numbered rows are right side rows; all even numbered rows are wrong side rows Cast on 26 stitches Row 1-10: Row 11 Row 12 Row 13 Row 14 Row 15: *K2, P2* rib (odd) right side rows; *P2, K2* rib (even) wrong side rows K2, P2, K2, P3, K8, P3, K2, P2, K2 P2, K2, P2, K3, P8, K3, P2, K2, P2 Repeat Row 11 Repeat Row 12 Cable Row: K2, P2, K2, P3, C4B, C4F, P3, K2, P2, K2

Rows 16, 18, 20, 22: Repeat Row 12 Rows 17, 19, 21: Row 23: Row 24: Row 25: Row 26: Row 27: Row 28: Row 29: Row 30: Row 31 Repeat Row 11

Cable Row - repeat Row15 Repeat Row 12 K2, P2, K2, P3, K1, P2, K2, P2, K1, P3, K2, P2, K2 P2, K2, P2, K3, P1, K2, P2, K2, P1, K3, P2, K2, P2 Repeat Row 11 Repeat Row 12 Cable Row - Repeat Row 15 P2, K2, P2, K14, P2, K2, P2 again begin ribbing *K2, P2* on (odd) right side rows & *P2, K2* on (even) wrong side rows until piece is 22 inches from cast on edge. End with a wrong side row.

Next right side row: *K2, K2 together* repeat to end of row ending with K2. 20 stitches remain. Then : Purl all wrong side rows and Knit all right side rows for 2 more inches (slip the first stitch as to purl and knit the last stitch of every row to keep the edges neat and bump free) ending with wrong side row and leaving a 30 long yarn tail on one of the sections so that you have enough yarn on the right edge with right side of that section facing you to do a join. Place the live stitches for each section on separate needles and join using the Kitchener method. Weave ends. Block if desired and sew buttons to the owls eyes with 2 - 3 separated out strands of contrasting color embroidery floss.
