Quick Start Guide on Part Probing for Haas

OMP40

This Quick Start Guide has been developed to assist you in setting up and using your Renishaw OMP40 part probe. This Guide is to be used in conjunction with the Renishaw programming guide H-2000-6222 and the OMP40 handbook H-2000-5022.

Mounting the probe. Adjusting the stylus. Probe calibration. Sample bore cycle. Sample Z offset cycle.

Loosen all screws in the tool holder. Fit the OMP40 onto the shank and visually position the probe to the center. Partially tighten the two opposing set screws to hold the probe. Thread the stylus into the probe and tighten.

Load the probe into the spindle. Use tool 1 as this is the default. Handle the stylus ball beside a flat surface and rotate the spindle by hand. The alignment is good when the stylus ball maintains a consistent distance from the flat surface.

There are four screws A around the tool holder these adjust the probe in the X or Y. To translate the probe tighten one side while backing the other side out. Tighten and loosen screw until the stylus ball runs true. B A When ball appears to run true tighten the two set screws B then tighten all four set screw A and recheck run out. Alternatively a low force indicator could be place against the stylus ball and trued up in the same manner as above. (More detail and torque specifications are in the OMP40 user guide if needed)

Using Visual Quick Code (VQC) the OMP40 must be calibrated. Follow the procedure outlined in steps 3 and 4 below. 3. Probe calibration X,Y
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. Mount a ring gauge or have a bore of know diameter. Handle the stylus ball to the approximate center of the bore below the top surface. Press <Edit> Press <Prgrm> 3 times until VQC comes up. The probing template O09996 must be active. To activate this push the F2 key and select probing template O09996. Cursor to Probe Calibration <Write> Cursor to Select Spindle Probe X,Y Calibration <Write> Enter in the exact bore diameter <Write> Cursor to: 1. Select/create a program 2. Add to current program 3. MDI 4. Cancel <Write> (MDI is recommended). Ensure correct mode. Cycle start the program.

4. Probe calibration Z

Note: The tool setter must be calibrated before calibrating the spindle probe in Z. 1. Press <Edit> 2. Press <Prgrm> 3 times until VQC comes up. 3. Cursor to Tool Setting. <Write> 4. Cursor to Auto Length Only. <Write> 5. Enter the tool number for the probe. <Write> 6. Cursor to: 1. Select/create a program 2. Add to current program 3. MDI 4. Cancel <Write> (MDI is recommended). 7. Ensure correct mode. 8. Cycle start the program.

This cycle is used to automatically set a work offset G54-G59 or G110-G129. 1. Press <Edit>. 2. Press <Prgrm> 3 times until VQC comes up. 3. Cursor to Spindle Probe1-9. <Write> 4. Cursor to Probe Bore. <Write> 5. Enter the work offset number to be set (54-59 or 110-129). <Write> 6. Enter the approximate bore diameter. <Write> 7. Cursor to: 1. Select/create a program 2. Add to current program 3. MDI 4. Cancel <Write> (MDI is recommended). 8. Load the probe into the spindle and handle to the approximate center below the top surface. 9. Ensure correct mode. 10. Cycle start the program.

5. Setting work offset on a bore

This cycle is used to automatically set a work offset G54-G59 or G110-G129. 1. Press <Edit> 2. Press <Prgrm> 3 times until VQC comes up. 3. Cursor to Spindle Probe1-9. <Write> 4. Cursor to Probe Z Surface. <Write> 5. Enter the work offset number to be set (54-59 or 110-129). <Write> 6. Cursor to: 1. Select/create a program 2. Add to current program 3. MDI 4. Cancel <Write> (MDI is the recommended). 7. Load the probe into the spindle and handle within .4 above the surface. 8. Ensure correct mode. 9. Cycle start the program.

6. Setting work offset on a Z surface

Note: If the Renishaw OMP40 is left on (ie green light flashing) an M53 should be executed in MDI to shut the probe off.
