Before you watch
1 Write the title of the video, The road ahead, on the board. Tell the students that they are going to watch a video with the title. What do they think it might be about? Give students copies of the worksheet and ask them to do exercise 1 in pairs. 3 Play the first part of the video (0.001.12) without sound. In pairs, one student watches the video and describes what they see to their partner, who takes notes. When they have finished, the student taking notes retells the description based on their notes. Do the students think their predictions in exercise 2 were correct? 4 Play the first part of the video (0.001.10) with sound to check answers to exercises 2 and 3. 5 Still working in pairs, students read and complete the sentences based on what they saw and heard in the video. Point out that they can use their own words to complete the sentences. Invite some students to share their answers with the rest of the class. 6 Play the same section of the video. Check and compare answers to exercise 5. 7 Explain that you are going to play the rest of the video. Read through the questions in exercise 7 together and help with any comprehension problems. Then play the video and check answers. 8 Tell students that every sixth word has been removed from the extract in exercise 8. Students should complete the text. Stress that they dont have to use the exact words from the video. When they are ready, play the relevant section from the video (1.221.41) and ask students to compare their versions with the video.
