Update 1E Group 6 4/1/14

We attempted to create a blood vessel composed of only silicone without any corn starch added into the mix. Vaseline was used as a release agent. However, this mixture took 3 days to dry and was not as thick or flexible compared to the cornstarch silicone mix.

An extra layer of fiberglass was added after the duct tape mold was removed from the exoskeleton. We then trimmed the loose edges of the mold for convenience.

For our feedback system, we added the copper wire component to a sample blood vessel. Because we needed a conductive component inside of the vessel to connect to the outside to connect it to the feedback system, a piece of copper tape was rolled up and pierced through the outer wall, then pierced through the other end.

To replicate the neck of the body, we used two PVC pipes and duct taped them together to mold a layer of fiberglass over. There was a complication where the current mold did not hold the PVC pipe correctly, thus we had used the Dremel power tool to saw a part of the shoulder for our exoskeleton to make the PVC pipe fit.

We have begun to melt and mold the ballistic gel in a crockpot. It takes approximately 45 minutes on high heat to be at a malleable state. This will be used to mimic the muscles of the body due to the similarity of its tensile properties to muscle.

The fiber glass was used to mold over the PVC pipe and was dried within 24 hours. We then removed the PVC, with some difficulty, but managed regardless.

Statistical Analysis 1) Silicone-Cornstarch tubing would be penetrated several times to observe how many times the vasculature could be penetrated without leakage until leakage occurs through the penetrated areas. This would tell us how often the skin and the vasculature would need to be replaced. ANOVA analysis would be done by comparing the differences between different means. 2) Also the flow input and output will be measured by determining the volume it displaces over time. Also the reservoir output and height will be determined from this statistical analysis with the requisite tubing to maintain a flow rate between 500-1200 ml/min depending on the internal jugular vein diameter tubing used. ANOVA analysis would determine the variable flow rate to the appropriate reservoir output and pump voltage. Classification of Device Our device would be considered Class II as the feedback system might cause electrical shock if not used as advised. The current going through the the system could be kept as low as possible so

it wouldnt be life threatening. Other components of the device are safe to use and would not be harmful or life sustaining.
