GENESIS WORSHIP
John 20:24-31
Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord! But he said to them, Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my nger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you! 27 Then he said to Thomas, Put your nger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. 28 Thomas said to him, My Lord and my God! 29 Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. 30 Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

NOTES
TRADITIONAL WORSHIP
Following that rst Easter Sunday in the early days of the church, the resurrection of Jesus was the central focus each week. In fact, the resurrection was the rst major Christian celebration. Easter was not celebrated as a one day event, but rather was celebrated for the following seven Sundays leading up to Pentecost, which occurred fty days following the resurrection. The stretch of time was known as Eastertide. Each of the seven Sundays in Eastertide had a focal point regarding some aspect of Jesus post-resurrection appearance. This second Sunday of Eastertide historically draws our attention to doubting Thomas, the subject of the sermon and focal point of worship today. Youll know we have continued to incorporate Easter music. Let us rejoice in the reality that Jesus has arisen, He is alive this day, and He intercedes on our behalf as we offer worship to God the Father, in the power of the Holy Spirit, through Jesus Christ, our risen and returning Lord. - Dr. Dan Sharp

NOTES
The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held the rst Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. Join us at First Pres on Thursday, May 1 from 12-1pm in the Reformation Chapel as we join together to pray for our country. Drop in anytime during the hour to receive a handout and pray.
DID YOU KNOW? In 1775, the rst Continental Congress called for a National Day of Prayer. In 1952, Congress established NDP as an annual event by a joint resolution, signed into law by President Truman. Then in 1988, the law was amended and signed by President Reagan, designating the NDP as the rst Thursday in May.
