Abortion Bill passed in Texas Texas, US -- In 1970s, women were very often treated for infections and complications

from inferior standard of abortions. It was early in this decade when abortion was made legalized in the US. Dr. Novick had thereafter dedicated his life towards this profession. After more than four decades later, the new abortion restrictions voted for by the Texas Legislature forces Novick to shut down his abortion clinic in Texas that he started in the 1980s. The Senate leader Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst scheduled a voting process on Friday for the similar restrictions over where, when, and how women may carry out abortions that failed to be passed as a law. The legislation passed last Friday was a result of weeks of mass protests and highprofile filibuster. It allowed abortions to take place in surgical centers only and required privileged doctors who can admit patients to nearby hospitals, also dictates when the pills were taken and abortion banned after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This bill by the Republicans in Texan Legislature is by far one of the most restrictive in the nation. Democrats pledged on Saturday fight in ballot box as well as in courts, which were their measures to rally the people who supported them. Over 2,000 protestors gathered in the Capitol building situated in Austin to oppose the bill. Just before midnight, ultimately the Republican majority passed the bill without any changes with only one Democrat voting against it. "Today the Texas Legislature took its final step in our historic effort to protect life," said Gov. Rick Perry, who is supposed to sign the bill to be passed as a law within the next few days. He adds, "This legislation builds on the strong and unwavering commitment we have made to defend life and protect women's health."

However, the Democrats affirmed to fight in the courts. "There will be a lawsuit. I promise you," Dallas Sen. Royce West said on the Senate floor, raising his right hand as if taking an oath. They offered around 20 amendments to the bill. There are exceptions of rape and incest which give doctors more scope for recommending abortion-inducing pills. Furthermore, to prove their point, Democrats explained that childbirth is more dangerous than abortion and there is very little serious issues when women take pills at home under the supervision of a registered doctor. Texas is a part of the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, which has inclined towards passing increasingly strict limits on abortion. The Christian conservatives are evidently pleased by the news of the law being passed. Incidentally, the greater part of the Republican primary voters are such conservative Christians. The Democratic Senator, Wendy Davis, said "Let's make sure that tonight is not an ending point, it's a beginning point for our future, our collective futures, as we work to take this state back." To over 2,000 doting supporters after the bill was passed. On the other hand, the Texas Republican Party celebrated their so-called major victory that would make Texas "a nationwide leader in pro-life legislation."
