[RTHREE Waste Management] December 29, 2009 3.0.3 Suppliers bargaining power The suppliers bargaining power is low since the sole supplier in this field is the government and government itself is encouraging private organizations to invest in this sector. 3.0.4 Buyers bargaining power The bargaining power of the buyer is low since there are very few organizations working in this sector and but the number of buyer is very high. There is high demand for different types of plastic and metals among the local companies.

Industry SWOT

Increasingly, communities are refusing to consider incineration until every effort is made first to recycle; public sentiment is strongly in favor of products that can be recycled or are made of recycled materials. Competitive Advantage RThree Plastics' competitive advantage is the support from the government and the experienced management team of RThree Limited.

Additional Strategic Consideration Although RThree limited is focusing on a coherent and successful strategy implementation however its success will depend on many other key issues. As strategy is an ongoing process RThree limited would consider following facts regarding strategic planning and implementation.

require better communication and understanding especially when the supplier is linked with the Government.

ol le ct ed

Bangladesh law and order system is currently going under numerous changes in terms of traffic, taxation, time and so on our strategy should have to flexible so that it could be modified or change according to the changing law and order system. Although RThree have projected financial costs and gains, it is only an assumption based on current and possible facts which may change due to various external and internal factors. So contingency planning and acceptance of short term failure is required. In this case quick responsiveness to the situation is an important factor.

The basic things to consider while making strategy is to colleting and allocating resources according to the capability of the company which should mirror the strategic planning.

[RTHREE Waste Management] December 29, 2009 RThree Limited is an environment company. Reflecting the name RThree (R3) we follow the universal motto of reuse, reduce and recycle. The main service of RThree Limited is to collect solid waste from the City Corporation and convert the solid waste into high quality plastic and metal sheet which will be sold to domestic buyers. The main product of RThree Limited is the plastic flakes, plastic sheets and metal sheets.

location we will have advantage in collecting the waste and selling our products to our customers. We can collect the waste not only from Dhaka city but also from other adjacent areas, so we will have sufficient amount because its an industrial area and most of the manufacturers factories of waste to convert it into recycled products. Another thing is that are established over there. So after selling the product we can deliver the products to the door step of our customers at a lower transportation cost and we will be able to deliver the products quickly. Because we will be

Because it will lower down their inventory ratio and increase their inventory turnover ratio. This is how we will create value in our company and we will create our loyal customers who will help us to grow in future.

Equipment and Machinery We will purchase main machine and equipments from China. Another option was to buy these from Italy but because of the higher price charged by the Italian company we will be buying the machine and equipments from a Chinese company. They will not only provide us a good machine with warranty but also they will give us some after sales facilities which will be helpful for us. Moreover, at the time of purchase they will train our people how to use the machine efficiently. So it will be helpful for us, because if they give the training then our people will be well trained and can operate the end of the day the machine will be lasting long and we will not need to repair machine in a proper way so that the machine will not be hampered. At the the machine and equipments over and over.

They have assured us another thing that is in future if we need any equipment or any parts then they will give us at a lower price than the market price which is our plus point.

Though the machine is going to be purchased from China and the price is going to be comparatively lower than the Italian company, our machine and tax and the import tariff for importing these heavy industrial machine and equipments since its a new industry and new concept in Bangladesh. Without the government help it will cost more than the assumed price. Production Equipment The RThree has state of the art production equipment to produce recycled plastic. The production equipment includes 15 Compression and Transfer molding presses ranging from 15 tons to 300 tons capacity, 5 Solid State microwave Pre-heaters, 3 Hydraulic performers, 2 Automatic tapping and drilling machines, 2 Vertical milling machines, and various other manual and semi manual equipments which are flexible in nature and can be used for multiple purposes.

There is no scarcity of labor in Bangladesh because it is a densely populated country. We can very easily collect the labor form the

Pricing We know pricing is very important because it manipulates the buyers decision. The companies who are going to buy their raw materials form us if they dont get these at a competitive price or lower price then they will look elsewhere. So we know that we have to be very careful to set our products price because at the end of the day it is a sensitive issue.

The price that we are going to charge for our products is going to be as their raw material. We will charge a competitive price and we will be able management and dynamic team will make it possible. At the current scenario the raw materials cheaper than that (Source: Azzizul Haque Shikdar, Owner

hampering the business. We will look for economies of scale in production and by the proper utilization of resources and capabilities we will make this a reality and we will be running our business effectively and efficiently so that

we can reach to our goal. Though the product manufacturing price or after doing the recycling the price of the recycled product will be higher than the usual product, we will be able to charge our customers a competitive price. Because, as said earlier, we are not only going to be efficient and have economies of scale but also the government will help us to charge a competitive price.

Government will help us to charge a competitive price by providing us incentives and giving tax benefits. Because this is almost a new concept and we will be in the marketer to do a sustainable business and helping the

Advertisement /Product Promotion

Basically we will do two things in our promotion. First of all we will promote our products to our customers so that they will know about us, our product and benefits of using our product. The second thing that we are going to do is to undertake an advertising campaign for creating awareness among people about the total recycling concept. Through this campaign we will educate people or aware people about the benefit usage of recycled products. When we will be promoting our products to our customers at that time our motive will be to increase our sales. Through direct advertising we will influence them to buy our products. Our representatives will convince them to use our recycled products as their raw material. If we use direct promotion

We have chosen direct promotion because our product is an industrial product. When we will be promoting our recycled products to our customers at that time we will convince them by proving all necessary information about the product. We will be selling them standard products at a competitive price. This will be a significant factor that we are going to provide them quality products at a competitive price. We want to assure

The second thing that we are going to do is creating mass awareness about using recycled products. We will intensively advertise in radio, newspaper and television. We will do this as a CSR activity. By this the advertising campaign we will educate the mass people and we will influence them to buy

the products which are made of recycled raw materials. We will show them all the positives sides of using this kind of product. In this second way, because we are educating consumers so we will be creating demand for products which are made by using recycled raw materials. [RTHREE Waste Management] December 29, 2009 9.0 Risk Analysis 9.1 Foreseeable and unforeseeable barriers 9.1.1 Critical Risk Delay: The political condition is not good in Bangladesh and another problem in this country is that, here we will need to go through huge paper work which will consumes so much time and that may hamper us very badly. Because of delay in starting our business we may face hampering our way of doing business. So this is a risk that we want to relation with the political leaders so that we can start our business as quickly as possible. competition in the beginning stage of our business which will be minimize by doing lobbing. Moreover, we will try to have good

So this is also a risk because we will have only one machine and if the machine is have to stop the production for a long time. Because in the mean time we will have to repair the machine and if parts are damaged then we

hampered in the very beginning of starting the business then we will

will have to import those parts from China and that will definitely need time. And in the mean time we will lose our valuable customers and obviously the operating cost will be higher. So we are considering the mal function of the machine and break down of parts as our risk because currently these are not available in Bangladeshi market.

[RTHREE Waste Management] December 29, 2009 Management Experience: As mentioned earlier that this is a new industry and a new concept so our management will not have the experience of handling this kind of company. But our management team will be dynamic because it will be full of graduated students from NORTH SOUTH UNIVERSITY (NSU) which is a well know university which produces the world class entrepreneurs and top level management team. We know that experience is a vital issue and if any company has experience then that company can do a better business than an inexperienced Bangladesh and there is a risk in this regard that if we dont have efficiently. If we start doing this business with a dynamic work force able to do a profitable business because we have confidence on our company. But we have to face the fact that it is a new concept in

ol le ct ed

We have a disadvantage in this regard that most of our population is illiterate. Meaning they are not educated that why they will not understand the concept of using the waste products and through recycling converting these into usable products. They may not accept the products and this is also a risk. For this reason when we will be promoting our product at that time we will not only promote our products to our customers through sales representatives but also to create a general awareness among mass people and influence them to buy products which are made by using the recycled raw materials we will use television, newspaper and radio. In this way we will change the way people think about these products so that we will increase the demand of using these products. At the end of our main

Competition: Basically we will not have any direct competition from any company in Bangladesh. But there is one company doing similar kind of business that waste concern. Their presence in the market is ignorable. Our indirect competitors are the suppliers who provide usual raw materials to our customers. If they start providing the raw materials at a lower price than us then it may happen that our customers switch

Because this is a new industry and we are just assuming that we will make our desire level of profit but in reality it may not happen because of the macro and micro environmental factors. It may But we have confidence on our management team and know that we happen that our actual return will be less than our expected return. can run this business and make our desirable profit.

9.1.2 Evaluate weakness of business

We dont have any experience in this business because this is a new industry.

Our labor force is not skilled. Because of these reasons it may happen that our cost of operation will be higher than the producer of general raw material for the companies who will buy these products to make their final products. If the cost of operation in producing the products is higher than the product unit price will be higher so ultimately our customers will hesitate to buy from us. Our another weakness is the illiteracy rate of this country people is very high so that they may not except the products made of recycled raw materials. All these are our weaknesses and we can only tackle

[RTHREE Waste Management] December 29, 2009 these by taking proper strategies which will make us to do business efficiently. 9.1.3 New technology: The technology that we are going to use in this business is new. So there is a risk that if any new rival enters in the market with updated technology then we will have the disadvantage. Because of the updated technology they will be able to do the business more efficiently than us and at the end of the day they can offer our customers lower price than us and we may lose our valuable customers.

[RTHREE Waste Management] December 29, 2009 11 Long Term Sustainability Long term sustainability would depend on companys performance and strategic choices. As the demand for recycling materials are high worldwide our company has a chance to operate for a long time. Even in Bangladesh there are very few companies that produce recycled materials which increases the chance of RThree Limited to venture this filed successfully. As government is very keen to encourage the privatization of this kind of company, RThree limited would have the support in dealing with internal and external barriers which could hamper the sustainability of the company. Although the whole world is extremely concern about global warming still at a risk as people only became concern about it in recent times. and its effect Bangladesh is still counting its baby steps. Environmental condition is

concern in Bangladesh. It has been found out that a ten-feet layer of discarded polythene bags, plastics, coconut shells, and heavy sludge created by millions of tons of biodegradable waste from kitchen markets cover the bed of the river Buriganga.

However dozens of female workers can be regularly found washing and drying huge polythene sheets. They said they buy those sheets from business establishments in Nawabpur and Mitford areas, from garment factories, and from the street urchins. If RThree limited collects those plastic materials before it gets to others hand then the dumping and use of contaminated plastic can be stopped which would eventually

[RTHREE Waste Management] December 29, 2009 12 Conclusion Problems arising from solid waste are increasing drastically. The creation of new garbage management systems has added social problems to the existing environmental ones. The concept waste is wealth is now gaining ground. The present trend for urbanization and development is increasing the demand for waste management. Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh everyday produces more or less 5000 tons of household waste. Though Dhaka City Corporation and the NGOs are collecting those still it remains on roads, in open drains and in low-lying areas. It has negative impacts on city dwellers as well as the citys environment. Sustainable population and environment and RThree Limited is dedicated to turn waste into waste management can be the way out to provide a livelihood in the city for its resources and create employment opportunity being a part of the sustainable world
