How does your media product represent a particular social group?

This is the cover star of the front cover of my magazine. This would mainly appeal to people who would be stereotyped as a Mosher this is due to both his physical appearance and his angry expression. His long hair, facial hair and clothing all suggest that he would be an artist with in the rock/metal genre and so appeal to this section of people. His angry facial expression also makes him look like hes shouting, clarifying the target audience of my magazine.

By editing my font and putting a fire design over the top I have once again made the genre very obvious. The fire would suggest that the mentioned band is dangerous and almost violent, and the fact that this band features for the main cover story would suggest that the magazine is centred on the rock genre. The band name is also aggressive yet again with the word hate making appeal to a niche audience, instead of being a magazine which appeals to most people like Q which simply includes articles on popular artists.

The way in which he is wearing a Deftones tee shirt, immediately informs the reader that the singer himself is interested in rock music. His long hair and clothing fir the Mosher stereotype and enable the reader to see immediately that his is not a mainstream band. The image isnt sexual either, rather than having an airbrushed image in dress clothing like other magazine the image is more focused on music itself. This is due to the absorbed facial expression and the person in the image having his hands in the air instead of around his face etc.

the font that I have used here is delibately broken and distressed looking, and is similar to fonts used in magazine like Kerrang and Metal Hammer. This makes the magazine look rough and unpolished rather than fonts that are pollished like NME. I also added red splatters to look like spots ao blood to add to the aggression and vilence that rock is associated with. This immediately establishes that the magazine isnt mainstream. unlike the other images this image is more sexual, and is edited to make it lok attractive. The way in wich her hair is lose around her face makes the image look more flirtatious. The angle of the shot also makes the photo look more personal, as it makes the girl in the image look like shes looking directly at you from the corner of her eye. The piercings however give the image a harder edge and make it clear that although this image is flirtation and attractive, the girl still fits into the bracket of being with in the same genre.

How does your media product represent a particular social group? Even though the image is obviously still the way in which the shot is taken whilst the band are moving. This gives the image a livelier feel and would be interesting for the reader. The way in which both of the instrumentalists are banging their heads forwards, is specific to the rock and metal genre as it is a movement in which most music fans will do at most rock/metal gigs. It is also quite a violent movement further implying that it is for a niche audience. Each artist also has long hair, a stereotype for Moshers.

This final image is both sexual but also genre specific. The eye contact could be considered personal and flirtatious along with the laid back pose. But his physical appearance is mainly appealing to a niche audience. His tattoo, piercings and stretchers all give the impression the singer will be in the rock music industry.

Throughout each of productions (cover, contents, DPS) my language is also specialise to the rock and metal genre. By incorporation metal festivals, like Slam-dunk Music Festival with in my incentive banner, I have made it so that people interested in other genres wouldnt find the magazine interesting. As shown in my audience feedback questionnaire, people who are indeed interesting in rock music, fid the magazine very attractive base on language, images and even colours.
