Orlando Science Center and National Geographic Partner on New Digital Theater; Premieres Meerkats 3D on Saturday, March 2
ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 22, 2013) The Orlando Science Center will partner with National Geographic Cinema Ventures (NGCV) to rebrand their newly-renovated Digital Adventure Theater as the Digital Adventure Theater, Presented by National Geographic. The partnership will launch on Saturday, March 2 with the premiere of Meerkats 3D. With this branding partnership, the Science Center will gain special access to one of the worlds largest giantscreen film libraries that includes award-winning films in 2D and 3D digital formats. As part of the partnership, National Geographic Cinema Ventures will produce or release two new titles each year, allowing the Science Center a first look at films in development and the opportunity to be among the first to release them. The Orlando Science Center will become a premiere location for NGCV films with exclusivity in Central Florida. NGCV will also provide marketing support to the theater. Newly renovated, the Digital Adventure Theater is fully equipped with 7.1 surround sound and ultra high definition 4K resolution, capable of producing an image nearly four times the quality of standard high definition. Guests can experience both educational documentaries and Hollywood features all in stunning, immersive 3D. The theater utilizes the XpanD X101 series of 3D active glasses which produce higher picture quality, increased depth, and less blur than passive 3D systems used by most cinemas. The first National Geographic film to premiere at the Digital Adventure Theater will be Meerkats 3D on March 2. Follow the story of meerkat matriarch Klinky and her clan as they take on the challenges of living in the unforgiving Kalahari Desert. This tale of strength, survival, family and fun will delight audiences of all ages! Following daytime screenings of Meerkats 3D on March 2, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey will premiere that evening at the Digital Adventure Theater. Fully immerse yourself in Middle Earth as you join the reluctant hobbit Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and his friend Gandalf (Ian McKellen) as they set off on an adventure to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of dwarfs to take on a dragon named Smaug. The movie joins Wreck-it Ralph 3D in the Science Centers lineup of Hollywood features.
