Procedure o o o o o o o Put students into groups of four. *Engagement / Anticipatory Set:

Go over already assigned spelling words with the students. Are there any words that are you are struggling with? -Take as many comments as needed from students. Lets continue to practice our spelling! * Mentor Teach and Model:

Demonstrate how to play the game. During their turn one student will roll the dice. Another student will read a word aloud clearly and the student who rolled the dice, that student is required to spell the word. -Student will write down the word in a marble notebook and spell it aloud to their peers.

If the word is spelled correctly, the student will move the amount of spaces that they rolled. Incorrectly they do not move. -Students will not fix any misspellings at this time.

What spelling word(s) did you struggle with? I will check to see if there is a specific word(s) the entire class is struggling with. Can you think of any tricks to remember the spelling? * Independent Practice:

Correcting misspellings from the game- have the students begin with circling the part of the word they misspelled. -For example: if they misspelled Dream as Jream they will circle the J

Using their spelling list as a reference the students will correct their misspellings. Notebooks will be turned in so I can see what spelling features are problems for individual students.

Materials Board Game, Dice, Spelling Words (cut out), Spelling List, Marble Notebook, Pencil Assessments At the end of the week students will be given a spelling quiz. Before the major assessment I will go through the marble notebooks to see what students are struggling with to adapt my lessons to guide them to correctly spell the words. Differentiation Struggling Learners: Have a different set of words for students who may not be on the same spelling and reading level as the rest of the class. Also assist the students during making correction of misspelled words to make sure they are guided to the correct spelling. Advanced Learners: Have another set of words that may be more difficult than the rest of the class. These students may have more independence during making correction.
