1. The Meaning and Purpose behind Interviews?

Introduction:
Interviewing is a particular form of communication in which you interact largely through a question and answer format to achieve a variety of specific goals and functions. It is not enough to display your knowledge acquired from books, newspapers and magazines during an interview. The interview board assesses your personality for psychological traits and sociological qualities before it comes to the vital decision.

What is the purpose behind and Interview?


An interview refers to a formal meeting aimed at determining ones aptness for the job before entering into a contract or an agreement. It is like putting forth ones past and present incidents, feelings and reactions to the interviewer. This gives the interview is a social process that involves interaction between two persons-the interviewer and the interviewee. An interview brings out the inner traits and qualities of the interviewee. It also enables a person to know another person in terms of the latters outlook, characteristic and ideas on a wi de variety of subjects. One important aspect of an interview is that rapport is established between the interviewer and the interviewee. The interviewer can be a single individual or a board of members and the interviewee is the candidate who is aspiring for the job. When rapport is established, it breaks all the socio-cultural barriers. This in turn enables a fee exchange of ideas between the interviewer and interviewee.

To Form a Hypothesis:
Through the technique of interview, the interviewer or the interview board is able to form a hypothesis about the personal qualities of the candidate by means of initial question such as: Please tell us in brief about your family background. Why do you consider yourself suitable for this job? Suppose you are selected for this job, are you sure it would satisfy your professional ambition? Suppose you are not selected this time, will you try again for this job or look for a career elsewhere?

Qualities/Traits generally assessed during Interviews:


Appearance Speech, mannerisms and gesticulation Mental alertness Consistency of thought and ideas Type of approach (positive/negative) Leadership qualities.

Job Interviews:
Perhaps, of most concern to the college students is the job or employment interview. Employers are looking for people who are confident, competent, hard-working, dedicated, loyal and are able to get the job done. There are different types of interviews, those are :

The Screening Interview.


The purpose of such interviews is to weed out unqualified and unsuitable candidates for a particular job.

The Informational Interview:


Tips: 1. Update your knowledge your knowledge on academics and current issues. 2. Be ready to convince the interviewer about your future role in the company. 3. You can inform the interviewer about the person who introduced you to the company.

The Stress Interview:


The stress interview involves keeping the candidate in stress, in order to know how a candidate would react or respond in difficult and stressful conditions
