Checks Prior To Starting the DG Set

1. Check Lubricating Oil Level and top up if required, to 'Top' level of dipstick.
2, Check Radiator Water Level and top up if required. (Note: Cautiously

open radiator cap if water is hot.). Add Anti-corrosion agent. Water quality to be of PH Value 6.5/8.5. 3. Check & Correct V-Belt tension. Examine the wear & condition of the belts and replace if required. 4. Check Battery Water level and Battery terminals for tightness and corrOSIon. 5. Check & Top up Fuel Tank. 6. Check Air Filter if necessary. 7. Clean Engine & Surrounding so that any external leakages can be detected easily. 8. Check the Tightness of Battery terminals & terminations.

Procedure for Starting the DG Set

1. Switch ON the Key Switch (Clockwise direction) provided on Instrument Panel. 2. Further Tum Key Switch (Spring action) Clockwise so that fuel solenoid operates. Hold the Switch in that position. 3. Press the Starter Push Button provided on Instrument Panel. Engine begins to crank. As soon as engine begins to fire, release the Starter push button. Avoid Over-cranking. This might damage the starter motor. Never Crank the engine for more than 5 sec (if the engine does not start). 4. Now release the Key Switch after the oil pressure has developed.

Checks After Starting

1. Check Oil Pressure & record the reading in Log Book. Minimum Oil Pressure - 1.5 kg/cm2 (At low idling speed) On Hot Condition - 2.5 kglcm2 (At rated speed) 2. Check Coolant/Water Temperature & record in Log Book. Recommended coolant working temperature -75 to 85 deg cel. Maximum coolant temperature - 95 deg cel. 3. Ensure whether battery is charging by means of battery charging ammeter or warning lamp on instrument panel. 4. Visually ensure the proper functioning of all the V-belt driven and gear driven accessory drives. 5. Check the engine for any leakages & rectify if any. 6. Ensure the parameters like voltage, frequency & currentlKW are within recommended limits. 7. Maintain the Log book correctly as per recommendep format.

Procedure for Stopping the DG Set

1. Switch OFF the breaker and remove the load applied on DG Set. 2. Allow the DG Set to run on NO-Load for 2 mins (5 mins for Turbo charged engines). 3. Now, stop the engine by means of Key Switch (Rotate in Counter Clockwise direction) provided on Instrument Panel.
