MeganKing DesignPlan PURPOSE:Whiledoingresearch,ithelpedmeseebenefitsanddisadvantagesof freshandfrozenvegetables.Iwouldlikemyaudiencetoleavewiththefollowingideasin theirheads:(1)Shouldmorevegetablesbemadeavailableasafrozenproduct?(2) Eatingfrozenproductsisnotnecessarilybadforyou(3)Eatingfreshvegetablescanbe healthier,nutritionallywise,whentheyareatprimeripenessofthatfood.Iwantthe audiencetothinkdifferentlyaboutthewaythattheyeatvegetables.Theycaneatitfreshor frozen.Thewordfrozencangetabadrepresentation,butIwantpeopletoseethatfrozen canbejustasgood,sometimesbetter/healthierthanfreshvegetables. AUDIENCE:Imustbeawareduringmyspeechofmyclassmates.Theyaremy initialaudienceduringmyspeech,buttheyarenotmystakeholders.Imustnotoffend them,butImustkeeptheminterestedthroughoutthepresentation.Sofar,mycurrent stakeholdersarethefarmersmarketvendors,peoplewhofreezevegetables,storeswho sellfreshvegetables,andfarmers.

Ihavebeenassignedtopresentfifth,whichmeansIwill golastonMonday,April21st,orfirstonWednesday,April23rd.Ineedtobelivelyduring mypresentation,becausefrozenvs.freshcanbeaboringsubjectifnotpresentedina creativeanduniqueway.Withinmyspeechandpaper,Iamgoingtotrytousethe conditionofselfdetermination.Iknowmyaudiencemembershavetheirmindsalready kindofsetonaspecificsidewithinmytopic:freshorfrozenbutIwanttoopentheirminds andshowthembothsidesandfrommypresentation,theyareabletomaybesaythattheir sideofthetopicisnttheonlyoneandthattheycanmaybemovetheirdisagreementtoa smallerlevelandhavemoreofanopenmindonthesituation. MEDIUM:Iwantthispresentationtolingerinthemindsofmyclassmates.Ineed themtofocustheirattentiononmeduringthepresentation,andstartthinkingabouttheway thattheyeatvegetablesandhowtherearesomanyways,yetmanypeoplestillbelieve freshisthebestroutetogo.Iwanttheaudiencetohaveanopenmindandkeepitopen.I willuseavarietyofslidestohelpassistwhengivingstatisticsthroughoutmypresentation.I wanttomakemystatisticsanddatavisual,notoralorwrittenoutinwords,becauseifitis inapiechartordiagramitcanbeeasilyreadfromadistanceandmostpeoplecan understanditmorequickly.ImustmakesureIdonotrelyonmyslidesthougheither.I mustmakethemstraightforwardandtothepointandnotgetofftopiconthem.No audiencememberwantstoreadeverywordoneachslide.Theywanttohearmetalk aboutit.ThetypeofpresentationIwouldliketousewouldbethearticulateaposition.I wanttoinvitemyaudiencetoexploreandseewhatIhavetosay.Iwilldiscussfresh vegetablesandfrozenvegetables,butIwanttheaudiencetoexplorethisissueandhave adifferentmindsetpossiblyafterthepresentationisover.Tomakethistypeof presentation,Iwillusethemultipleperspectivesorganizationalpattern.Thispatternwill

allowmetoaddressmanysidesandpositionsonfreshvs.frozenvegetablesandgetthe mindsoftheaudiencemembersdebatingandthinkingaboutthetopic. Whentalkingtotheclass,Iwanttokeepmyhandsinfrontofmybodyoratthesidesofmy body.Idonotwanttobeplayingwithmyhandsduringthepresentationanddistractingthe audiencemembers. PATHOS:Iamgoingtohavequiteafewstatisticsinmypresentation,soIwantto keepmyaudiencesattentionfromstarttofinish.Statisticscanbesoboringandcanmake theaudiencebecomeuninterested.Iwilltrytoincorporatethesestatisticsintomyslides, sothatIamnotjustspittingfactsanddataouttotheaudience.Havingavisualaidtohelp displayitwillallowmetotalkaboutavariationofthattopicontheslide,butstillgivethe audiencethestatisticsanddatathattheywantandneedtoknow. LOGOS:Iwanttouseabroadspectrumofvocabularyduringmypresentation.I needtousevocabularywordsthattheaudiencehasageneralideaof,butnotused everyday.Iwanttomakemyspeechasemiformalspeech,andtodothis,Imustmakeit soundprofessionalwithagoodspreadofvocabulary.Tohelpmyspeech,Iwillalsouse transitionwordsandphrases.Iwillusetransitionstoindicatesequences,positions, emphasizeapoint,provideanexample,toshowsimilarity,orshowcauseandeffect. TherearesomanywaysthatIcanusetransitionsandImustbeawareoftheseanduse theminmypaperandspeech.
