B. Summary of the Lesson Plan: Students will learn about the history of Lewis and Clarks time at Fort Clatsop, Oregon. This lesson will use a YouTube video, Fort Clatsop, 1805-1806 by Jaclyn Pytlarz and an information sheet from the Oregon encyclopedia. C. Basic Information: Grade Level: 3rd grade Time to Complete this Lesson: 50 minutes Groupings: whole group video presentation & discussion, individual activity & worksheet

D. Materials: Computer and smart board for video viewing Fort Clatsop information sheet from Oregon Encyclopedia - one for each student Lewis and Clark Matching Activity worksheet - one for each student Paper and pencil E. Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards o H1.3.3 Learn about individuals around the world and discuss their contributions. I can learn about Lewis and Clark and their time spent at Fort Clatsop.

F. Vocabulary Louisiana Purchase Purchase of territory called Louisiana from France in 1803. The territory included land in modern day states such as Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and parts of other states. G. Procedure: 1. Watch YouTube video about Lewis and Clark and Fort Clatsop as a whole group. 2. Discuss Fort Clatsop information sheet as a whole group. 3. Distribute blank paper to students and instruct them to draw their own fort. Their design should include bedrooms, kitchen, and living areas, as well as a front view.

4. Introduce vocabulary words (Louisiana Purchase, Mandan Indians, contributions) as a whole group. 5. Complete Lewis and Clark Matching Activity worksheet individually. H. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will use their fort drawings and their matching activity worksheet. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. Their accurate answers on the worksheet will allow me to determine if they understand the concepts of the lesson. Their understanding of Lewis and Clarks sacrifices and dedication to building Fort Clatsop, as well as their contribution to history, will determine their understanding. I. Closure: Review the importance of Lewis and Clarks expedition along the Oregon Trail from Independence, MO to Fort Clatsop, OR. J. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? The easiest part of the lesson for me to teach will be about the importance of Fort Clatsop. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? The most difficult portion to teach will be teaching the students the vocabulary words on the matching activity sheet. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I will follow up the lesson by allowing the students to present their fort drawings to the class and explain why they designed it the way they did. 4. What can you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I can further review pictures of Fort Clatsop and vocabulary words. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? I dont believe any part of this lesson needs to be changed. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part of the lesson was choosing an appropriate standard.
