Introduction/Scenario

You have been asked to choose and research an area of Music, and present your work at a local festival of Music. Assignment 1 Project Proposal P1, M1, D1 Produce a written proposal detailing an area of music you wish to explore and research further. This will lead to a final outcome of giving a presentation on the area that you choose. Your proposal should include the following information: What your chosen area of music is What resources/research materials are available to you so that you can research this area of music? Why you have chosen this particular area of music Why your chosen area of music is a suitable area to be researched (is it realistic/practical?) Next, produce a short written document that states the methods you will use to carry out your research on your chosen area of music. Alongside this you will need to produce a timetable for yourself to demonstrate when you will carry out each task for this project. In this timetable you will be expected to set yourself deadlines for each task. Your written document should include the following information: What type of information you will use for your research Why will you use this type of information? Where you will find your information Whether you will collect material in a variety of formats e.g. written, audio, video, diagrams, notation When producing your timetable you should consider the following: How you will prioritise your workload Allowing the correct amount of time for you to carry out a sufficient amount of research Allowing time for you to decide how your research will be presented Allowing time for preparation of presentation materials e.g. final writeup, producing slides/handouts, finding audio/visual examples Using milestones

You should present your research in a folder. Your research should include the following evidence: Evidence that you have collected appropriate material from a variety of sources (5 or more different sources) Evidence that you have judged the appropriateness and importance of your selected research material and have explained your choices Evidence that you can collate and prioritise your material in accordance with point of view Evidence that you can select evidence which focuses on your area of music and can discard inappropriate or duplicate material
