Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Take a Dip
The place is gooey. The water is rust-colored in the eggshaped pool. The air is pungent with the smell of sulfur, yet thousands come to this desert canyon in Corona, California in their quest for health and beauty. Welcome to the Glen Ivy Hot Springs, dubbed as Club Mud. It has a long history as a health spa. The Native Americans originally called it Temescal, meaning sweat house after the primitive mud saunas, which they built around the natural mineral springs. Supposedly you put a mud pack all over your body, bask in the sun, and shower off. Fans claim that it cleanses the skin of toxins. I dont know, but I do know that forgiveness of the dirt and grime of sin is only possible by God through His grace. Christians would probably say that the three most precious truths of Christianity are the promise of eternal life in Heaven, the presence of the Lord with us daily, and the principle of forgiveness. Old Testament sacrifices sought to wash away the guilt. A sin offering dealt with the principle of sin, implying that I am not a sinner because I sin, but I sin because I am a sinner. The trespass offering dealt with the practice of sin, how one must first put things right with the one who has been injured then get right with God. Jesus came as the perfect sacrifice, with His own blood being the price of forgiveness. He saved us not because of works done by us, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, Whom He poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior (Titus 3:5, 6). I spoke recently and extensively from Psalm 130. I am grateful that the Lord does not mark iniquities (Psalm 130:3). Who could stand? Once you have accepted Christs forgiveness, He is not a celestial Santa Claus, making a list and checking it twice, to find out who is naughty and nice. Jesus has already come to town and climbed on a cross. Of course, His Spirit still convicts before we can be cleansed. You dont have to go to a mud club, but to the cross in repentance. One of Englands greatest preachers, Dr. G. Campbell Morgan, visited the Welsh Revival, led by Evan Roberts. He heard a Welshman misquote Psalm 130:4 saying, Lord, we thank Thee that there is forgiveness with Thee enough to frighten us. The sinner is afraid that God will punish him and rightfully be terrified of hell. But the saint who has been washed in the blood of the Lamb is afraid that he might sin again and hurt the One who loves him so much: But with You there is forgiveness, that You may be feared (Psalm 130:4). Its time to take a dip.
