OTTER TIDBITS:
FIRST HALF SUCCESS: The Evansville Otters finished the first half of the season with a 27-23 record. The Otters are seeking their first season above .500 since 2005 (52-43). SHUTOUT CITY: The Evansville Otters have shutout their opponents nine times in the 2013 Frontier League season. Evansvilles last shutout was a 2-0 win against the Rockford Aviators on August 21 (previously July 24 vs Traverse City). DOUBLEHEADER SUCCESS: The Evansville Otters have had great success recently in doubleheaders. The Otters are 12-6 in doubleheaders this season. Evansville also had a great doubleheader mark in 2012, going 10-2 in such doubleheaders. SEVENTEEN INNING MARATHON: The Evansville Otters and Frontier Greys played a franchise record tying 17 inning game on June 23 at historic Bosse Field. It matched the previous record which was set twice (August 24, 2000; June 24, 2003). NEAR NO-NO: Pitcher Matt Zielinski nearly threw the first no-hitter in Otters franchise history on June 7. He carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning before allowing a leadoff single. Zielinski finished with a franchise low one-hit while also accumulating a career high 15 strikeouts. WALK-OFF WINNER: Evansville secured their first sweep of the season with a two-run walk-off home run from infielder Ryan Kresky on June 6. It was the first professional home run hit by Kresky (his home run on May 30 is not official until the suspended game is completed on September 3). EPIC COMEBACK: Evansville scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on May 30 to tie the River City Rascals. Moments after the game-tying triple from C.J. Henry, rain poured down, and the game would be suspended until September 3, an Otters 10-9, 13 inning win. FOG DELAY: Evansville lost to Traverse City on May 21st in a fog-shortened game. The Otters trailed entering the bottom of the eighth inning with fog moved in from the outfield, making visibility a near impossible. The game ended a few batters later. CLOUD NINE: After Evansville lost their first series of the season to Normal, the Otters went on an impressive run of winning nine straight series. From May 21st to June 22nd, Evansville did not lose a single season to any Frontier League opponent.
2013 EVANSVILLE OTTERS COACHING STAFF Andy McCauley Manager 4rd Season
McCauley accepted the job of Otters manager on July 6, 2010. Evansville went 19-31 after Andy joined the team mid-year and the team has improved their win total each season under his direction. Andy, 44, has managed in the Frontier League before. He became the skipper for the Kalamazoo Kodiaks in 1998 and led the London Werewolves to a league championship in the next year. The Evansville Otters manager has also had great success in the Northern League from 2002 to 2009 with the Quebec Capitals, Schaumburg Flyers and Kansas City T-Bones. It was with Kansas City that he also won another league championship in 2008. A 1991 graduate of Mansfield (Pa.) University, McCauley has steered eight of the 13 independent teams he has managed into the playoffs. His overall record is 686-744. McCauley was named manager of the year of the Frontier League in 1999 and of the Northern League in 2004.
