A brief look through the stats and information of crime rates in Albuquerque compared
to the National average.
Crime Rate in New Mexico
Introduction

Albuquerque is the biggest city in the New Mexico and is located in central New
Mexico. Like all cities of the nation, there is crime. New Mexico itself has a crime
rate that is 25% higher than the national average. In particular, Albuquerques
crime rate index hits off at 40% higher than the New Mexico average. Making
Albuquerque a particularly dangerous place compared to the rest of the
nation.

Results
As of 2006, the United States Census Bureau ranks New Mexico at number 9 in
the VIOLENT CRIMES PER 100,000 POPULATION 2006 with a rate of 643. The
rate was calculated based on the Census Bureaus estimates as of July 1
st
.
Although the ranking was made in 2006, the ranking may very well have
changed considering information gathered from USA.com.
USA.com states that as of 2014, New Mexico is ranked at number 4 with a crime
rate of 2,088 and a population of 2,059,179. New Mexico falls behind Louisiana
(4), Tennessee (3), South Carolina (2), and the District of Columbia (1). Below is a

has been above the national crime index for the years of 2009-2012. This
information proves that New Mexico stays approximately 25% above the
national crime rate.

In order to find out why the crime is being so easily committed in Albuquerque, I
did not have to search very far. USA.com also presents a table breaking down
the Law Enforcement employees by year both in New Mexico and the national
average. With New Mexico employing less law enforcement than the national
average, the crime is easier to commit.

If New Mexico were to employ more law enforcers there would be less chance
for criminals to commit acts of crime. More law enforcers would most likely lower
the Albuquerque crime index.

There are many contributions to crime in Albuquerque. There are the categories
of crime that are represented in the New Mexico Crime by Year table, as well
as others such as home / property invasions, and trespassing. There are also the
unreported crimes that slip by the statistics. The unreported crimes would
possibly add to the crime index in both the US and in New Mexico.

Summary

Research shows that New Mexico is a hot bed of crime. The information found
demonstrates how crimes are committed and the reason why that is. Crime is a
problem as is, and would be diminished if there were more law enforcers present
within the community. Research shows that in the national average, with more
law enforcement employees, the crime index is, in fact, lower. Albuquerque,
New Mexico is a city that has the potential to be a city with a lower crime index,
but only if there are certain steps being taken.

Conclusion and Recommendation

Albuquerque, New Mexico can be a less chaotic city if certain precautions and
steps are taken. First off the city can hire more law enforcement employees in
order to patrol the street and help keep more businesses, people, and homes
safer. Second, the victims of these crimes can take precautions in order to not
get robbed, rapped, or even murdered. Such precautions can include carrying
a weapon, keeping in a group when traveling at night, or even not going out
alone. In conclusion, Albuquerque is a dangerous city that can be not so
dangerous if its inhabitants took precautions.
