Service & Sermon Notes

Welcome to Worship
elcome to New Hope Church, now into our third century serving God! If
you are visiting, you will discover a loving, spirit-filled church family. Here
is some helpful information as you join us in worship today:
- All who worship here are equals in the sight of God, regardless of race, age, gen-
der, physical disability or religious affiliation.
- Communion, when celebrated, is open to all who profess Christ as Lord and Sav-
ior, whether affiliated with this church or not. Children may partake of Commun-
ion as well, if parents approve.
- A nursery is available during the service; please see a greeter for directions. (This
is for infants and children up to 3 years of age.)
- Handicap-accessible restrooms are located off the narthex (main foyer) and adja-
cent to the entrance lobby in the Fellowship Hall/Gym.
- Please complete the tear-off attendance slip attached to the bulletin and drop it in
the offering plate so we will have a record of your visit with us today.
- Thank you for remembering to silence your cell phone during the service.
- We ask that there be no food or beverages in the sanctuary, please.
- If you arrived as a visitor we hope that you leave as a friend and worship with
us often!
New Hope Church exists to:
Glorify God in worship and rejoice in our life together;
Share the Good News of the Gospel in word and deed;
Reach as many as we can with the saving love of Jesus;
Help each person grow toward Christian maturity,
and find their place of service in the church and in the world.

Ministries/Activities Within Our Church
Mothers Day Schedule next Sunday is Mothers Day, and we will be honor-
ing all of our mothers and ladies in the church with a breakfast at 8:30 (prepared
by the men). Ladies, come and enjoy some well-deserved pampering! After
breakfast at 9:30 we will have a time of greeting neighbors and guests in the nar-
thex, followed by the Worship Service at 10:00 (no Sunday School in lieu of the
breakfast). Honor your mother, whether she is living or gone to be with the
Lord, by being in church next Sunday.
The Church Session will meet Tuesday night May 13, 6:30 here at the church
for the regular monthly meeting.
Senior Day will be Sunday, May 18. During the morning Worship Service we
will honor our graduating high school and college seniors. So far we have the
names of Jessica Crowder, Haven Greer and Sydney Thompson graduating from
high school, and Katie Dickson, graduating from Tennessee Tech. If you know
of someone else in the church family who is graduating, please let Pastor Bur-
row know ASAP. Thanks!
Wednesday night prayer meetings have resumed at 6:30, on April 30, May 7,
and May 14. The Pastor will be in the office one hour before and one hour after
for those who need to discuss something with him or to have special prayer with
him.
The New Hope Mens Ministry will have its next monthly meeting on Satur-
day morning, June 1 at 8:30 a.m. As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens
another. - Proverbs 27:17.
Stephen Ministry - Got a burden? You dont have to carry that burden alone.
You can have a STEPHEN MINISTER who will spend time with you, listen to
you, and walk beside you. If you or someone you know is interested in receiving
care through the Stephen Ministry program at New Hope, please contact the pas-
tor through the Church office at (615) 449-7020 and request that a Stephen min-
ister contact you.

The Scripture References
Luke 24:13-35 New International Version (NIV)
On the Road to Emmaus
13
Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about sev-
en miles
[a]
from Jerusalem.
14
They were talking with each other about everything
that had happened.
15
As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus
himself came up and walked along with them;
16
but they were kept from recognizing
him.
17
He asked them, What are you discussing together as you walk along?
They stood still, their faces downcast.
18
One of them, named Cleopas, asked him,
Are you the only one visiting Jerusalem who does not know the things that have
happened there in these days?
19
What things? he asked.
About Jesus of Nazareth, they replied. He was a prophet, powerful in word and
deed before God and all the people.
20
The chief priests and our rulers handed him
over to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him;
21
but we had hoped that he
was the one who was going to redeem Israel. And what is more, it is the third day
since all this took place.
22
In addition, some of our women amazed us. They went to
the tomb early this morning
23
but didnt find his body. They came and told us that
they had seen a vision of angels, who said he was alive.
24
Then some of our compan-
ions went to the tomb and found it just as the women had said, but they did not see
Jesus.
25
He said to them, How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the proph-
ets have spoken!
26
Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his
glory?
27
And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what
was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
28
As they approached the village to which they were going, Jesus continued on as if
he were going farther.
29
But they urged him strongly, Stay with us, for it is nearly
evening; the day is almost over. So he went in to stay with them.
30
When he was at the table with them, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and be-
gan to give it to them.
31
Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him, and
he disappeared from their sight.
32
They asked each other, Were not our hearts burn-
ing within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?
33
They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem. There they found the Eleven and
those with them, assembled together
34
and saying, It is true! The Lord has risen and
has appeared to Simon.
35
Then the two told what had happened on the way, and
how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread.

CHURCH CAMPS --- Message from Youth Pastor Brad Unland
Our New Hope Children will be attending two camps this year at Crystal Springs
Camp in Kelso, TN.
Our first camp is Junior High Camp for kids going into 7th, 8th and 9th grades.
We will be leaving out for this camp just after church on Sunday, June 8th and the
kids will return home on Friday, June 13th in the afternoon.
The second camp is Junior Camp for kids in Upper Elementary going into the 4th,
5th, and 6th grades. We will also be leaving out for this camp just after church on
Sunday June 22nd and the kids will return on Friday, June 27th in the afternoon.
The cost of each camp is $85 for kids who attend New Hope Church and $170 if they
have friends who want to go but do not attend the church.
If any child needs help in affording camp please see the Youth Pastor Brad Unland
or the Assistant to the Pastor Robbie Haynes for more information.
Every child needs to fill out health and camp registration forms and those can be
picked up in the church office. The kids interested in camp will receive these forms
this Sunday, May 4th during Children's Church.
Camp has opportunities for kids to worship together and grow in Christ. They will
also spend time swimming, fishing, making crafts, and eating (they eat a lot at
camp!). We hope our kids are getting excited about this summer and all the great
experiences they can explore.
Contact Brad for details: e-mail: rbunland@yahoo.com; home phone 772-4680.
