Annotated Bibliography
For this project, our group chose to investigate: LGBT Rights
Our research question is: What is the civil rights and law concerning LGBT in California? And
what is the future for the LGBTs in California?

Tyler, Robin. "Gay 'Pride' Without Civil Rights Is An Illusion." Lesbian News 30.12 (2005): 18.
Academic Search Premier. Web. 26 Mar. 2014.
This scholarly article talks about how Robin Tyler was in the LGBT Pride Parade in Los
Angeles on June 12. According to him, having Paris Hilton be the Grand Marshal was an insult
to this community. He quote, Not only has she not done anything for our community, but she
actually said that the thought of two men kissing turned her off. So in conclusion, the article
summarize how LGBT Pride Parade failed to promote GLBT civil rights by several of errors and
misconceptions. In my opinion, this source is trustworthy and reliable because it came from an
official newspaper. However, the depth of this article is rather shallow as he is being biased in
voicing out his disappointment towards the event. I am going to use this source for my project by
listing his disappointments and errors of the event in promoting the LGBT rights. Not to
mention, this article address my research question about the rights of LGBT.

Remarks by the Vice President and Dr. Biden to the Human Rights Campaign Los Angeles
Dinner." The White House. The White House, n.d. Web. 24 Mar. 2014.
Winston, Hendry, Nicolas
I found this article in the White House website discussing the speech of the Vice
President and Dr. Biden regarding LGBT rights. They simply discuss how every LGBT married
and single person in Los Angeles and other areas should have the same rights as other people.
They discuss the different kinds of bullying, harassment and other violence that occur to LGBT.
I think that this article consist of lots of valuable information which are mostly testimonies from
people in America. However I did not find the author who wrote this article so the credentials
could be questioned. As for my project, I plan on using this source to provide different examples
of situations where LGBT needs protection in California.

Brown Jerry. California governor signs bill requiring schools to teach gay
History Capital Alert (2011). Web. 14 July 2011.
This scholarly article is about Governor Jerry Brown. He said on Thursday that he had
signed a bill that will require public schools in the state to teach about the contributions of lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. The bill, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation,
will also require teachers to provide instruction on the role of people with disabilities. Jerry Brown
also believed that the bill represents a step forward for the state. It is known that California law
already requires state schools to teach about the contribution of Native American8s, African-
Americans, Mexican-Americans and Asian Americans among other groups. The bill is thought to
be the first of its kind in the nation. However, the bill has also brought a lot of criticism. Rev.
Louis Sheldon has said in a statement that it is outrageous that Governor Jerry Brown has opened
the classroom door for homosexual activists. He also said If parents don't already have their
children out of public schools, this should cause them to remove them." This shows that America
Winston, Hendry, Nicolas
is treating this issue seriously and they want to address it as soon as possible. However, there are
some people who think differently as they might feel that what Jerry Brown is doing is wrong.
Overall, I feel that this is a good piece of news as it helps us understand the importance of LGBT
and how people should be taught. I will use this piece of news for my project, as it will help me
understand the real meaning of LGBT.

Branson-Potts, Hailey. New LGBT- specific history lessons planned for L.A county schools.
L.A now. Web. 1 October 2013.
This article is about the past of Los Angeles when the police raid, arrest and beat more than a
dozen patrons. The black cat raid, protests and other events in gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender will be included in new lesson plans to be integrated into history curriculum at Los
Angeles County high schools in the coming months. In 2011, state legislators passed a
controversial first-in-the-nation law requiring California public schools to teach students about
the contributions of LGBT Americans in state and U.S. history. So controversial was the law that
some parents across the state quickly pulled their children out of public schools. The reason why
some parents have pulled out of public schools is because they might be afraid that the schools
are teaching their children about the wrong things. There is also going to be one of the worlds
largest research libraries on LGBT history. Scot says that she hope that people realize that gay
people are important too. This new curriculum is really groundbreaking and it is time for the
people to see and understand what is it about. In my opinion, I think that this curriculum is good
and it will benefit most of the people. I will use this piece of article for my project as I feel that it
is the most suitable one.

Wong, Curtis M.. "Bryan Fischer Of American Family Association: Gay Adoption Is 'A
Form Of Child Abuse'." Huffpost Gy Voice. Huffington Post, 14 06 2012. Web. 26 Mar 2014.
In this article, Bryan Fischer talks about the problem of gay rights. He side as the con in
this matter and said that when gay couples adopt a child, it is a form of a child abuse. Bryan
Fischer also said that the very base of the sexual acts performed by the same-sex is unnatural. He
viewed the act as immoral and unhealthy, because the original function of the body parts being
used was not purposed on the way that the same-sex activists use it. "The bottom line, ladies and
gentlemen, is to put kids in this environment -- it's a form of sexual abuse all its own. To adopt
kids into a same-sex environment is a form of child abuse." said Bryan Fischer.
In this regards, we can conclude that there are still activists out there that fight the same-
sex activists. I summarized this article because we need to conclude the possibility of the equal
rights for the LGBTs. They are still fighting for their rights to activists like Bryan Fischer. One
of our questions for the poster is to predict the future for the LGBTs. This source is legible
because Huffington Post, one of the many reliable online newsletters, posted it.

Johnson, Ted. "Biden Tells L.A. Crowd That Much More Needs to Be Done on LGBT Rights
." Variety. N.p., 23 03 2014. Web. 26 Mar 2014.
In this article, Vice President Joseph Biden talks about the movement that needs to be
done for the LBGTs. He said that in some states in America could still fire their employees for
the orientation of the sex life. He also said that he is going see the life of Lombardo and Wards
home to see what a normal family they had. Concluding that life in a gay family is still normal.
Winston, Hendry, Nicolas
The article also talks about Paris Barclay, the first African American and the first openly gay
president of the Director Guilt of America, that he is different in a way but the same in so many
levels. When his husband and his family went out to watch a soccer game with all the other
parents, they realized that they are all the same. We forgot there was a difference, Barclay
recalled. Were visible. We represent the LGBT community, and yet, were the same.
I choose this article because it talk about the life of the LGBTs after they settled in. that
there is no difference in being with the same-sex family and a heterosexual family. This articles
talks about the future that the LGBTs might have, that the future may be brighter that today. I
choose this source because it was noted directly from the speech that the Vice President gave on
the gala dinner of the Human Right Campaign.
