HS FRIDAY BULLETIN
or email HSOffice@ismanila.org
Dear Parents,
I trust that you all had a well deserved mid-semester break and that you are ready to
continue to support your child through the remainder of this semester. The time will go very
quickly I can guarantee that! As usual there is a huge array of activities happening in the HS
in the coming weeks, but before we go there, I would like to thank all parents for their
attendance at the HS Parent Teacher conferences and for your support of this years
Filipiniana festival. Both events were a huge success with close to a 100% increase in
attendance at conferences and a revamped but nevertheless still superb festival.
Next week we have school photographs. These student photographs are included in the
Kawayan Yearbook at the end of the year and are available for you to order separately.
Information has been sent to you already and students have been given the order form from
the photographer.
Also next week we begin our testing of all grade 9 students with the new online MAP test.
For the last few years it has been customary for us to administer the ISA (International
Schools Assessment) standardized tests from ACER (Academic Council of Educational
Research-Australia) as a school, which provided us with a “snapshot” of how our students
are progressing in the areas of English and Math. However this year it has been decided that
this year we will be trialing the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test from the NWEA
(Northwest Evaluation Association - USA). Students in Grade 9 will complete a reading and a
language test within their regular English classes and also a Math test .The MAP tests will
provide us with instantaneous data about the instructional levels of our students and will
help to inform our curriculum and instructional strategies. The MAP testing will take place
from November 09-13 and 16 – 20.
In case you have missed all the announcements ISM will be closed on Friday November 27
and we have thus had to move the grade 9 and 10 exams forward one day.
The monthly HS PTA coffee morning will be this Tuesday, November 10th. Please see the
agenda in this bulletin. The advertised presentation for parents entitled “The Internet, you,
and your child” has been postponed until the beginning of the second semester. As usual
Mike Dickinson and I look forward to meeting as many parents as possible on Tuesday.
Kind regards,

Message from KAWAYAN:
To all HS parents:
Greetings from the High School Yearbook, Kawayan Print!
Annual student photographs for the yearbook are being taken during the week of November 9-13, 2009 for Freshmen,
Sophomores and Juniors, and November 7 &14 for Seniors; as it is our priority that all students take their photographs on
that week, please remind your children to take their pictures. Freshmen and sophomores will take theirs during class,
juniors have specific times during their breaks/lunch/after school depending on their homeroom, and information for
seniors is outlined below. If your child was absent for the day they were assigned, please remind them to go in their own
free time on one of the dates mentioned above because there will likely be no other picture dates in the future.
We would also like to inform you that printing packages of yearbook pictures from professional photographer Tino Ley will
be available for order. Attached is the information regarding these packets, which were distributed to all students in
homeroom, as so you can get an idea as to what packets you may want to order. Please feel free to do so! Your child must
bring their order package with the payment on the day of their picture taking.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us through our email at kawayanprint@gmail.com.
Thank you for your time!
