Course Titl e: Advanced Compositi on for Teachers II Final Proj ect
Lesson Summary: This lesson plan is a class comparison and contrast of Oklahoma City and Seattle. The lesson will ask students to look at the infrastructure of both cities compared to one another. From there, students will decide which city is a better fit for a professional basketball team. Students will also look at the pros and cons of the team staying in Seattle and their move to Oklahoma City. Finally, students will be arbitrarily divided into groups and asked to debate as representatives of either city.

Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 910 topics, texts, and issues, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.
3. Evaluate a speakers point of view, reasoning, and use of evidence and rhetoric, identifying any fallacious reasoning or exaggerated or distorted evidence.
Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas : 4. Present information, findings, and supporting evidence clearly, concisely, and logically such that listeners can follow the line of reasoning and the organization, development, substance, and style are appropriate to purpose, audience, and task.
6. Adapt speech to a variety of contexts and tasks, demonstrating command of formal English when indicated or appropriate. (See grades 910 Language standards 1 and 3 on page 54 for specific expectations.)
Instruction Procedures We will teach the students to be able to thoughtfully evaluate information. We will also teach students how to rhetorically present the information in a manner that is subjunctive and creates exigence. The students will first be asked to research information regarding both cities, then to thoughtfully articulate their position to their peers.
Assessment We will be evaluating students based on their debate. Criteria will include their understanding and processing of information as well as the students ability to transmit the information and their position to their audience.
Assignments Students will be asked to research information to support their debate in order to build their background knowledge. Students will also be asked to watch clips of debates and evaluate the rhetoric used.
