VENNER

FORHOUSE
April 29th,20t4
Dear Friend,
First, let me say thank you.
Growing up in District 24, and then bringing my farnily back to the farm l9 years
ago after our Air Force service, has been like a dream come true,
My great-grandlathet' hornesteaded here in the 1880's. A lot has changed since
then, but one thing is still the same: South Dakota is one of the finest places on earth to
raise a family and pursue the American dream"
Now I'd like to serye the community that has been such a blessing to me. That's
why I'm running to serve in the State l{ouse again. I hope I can erun your vote on June 3rd.
But let me back up and irrtroduce myself.
My name is Mark Venner, and we may have already met at events or as I've
knocked doors throughout Hyde, Hughes, Stanley and Sully Counties. I grew up on a
farm/ranch 20 miles North of'Pierue.
After high school I earned, degrees at SDSU,
joined
the Air Force, then retired as a
Lt. Colonel after 20 years and came back to run the family farm. My son Mark graduated
from Riggs High School. My wife Denise worked for 14 years at the Pierre Indian
Learning Center and now is a social worker at Countryside Hospice Memory Center.
We love South Dakota.
From l99B to 2010 I u'as privileged to serve on the Hughes County Commission,
and then as a State R.epresentative for District 24 fuam 2010 to 2012. I also spent l0
years during that tirne as on SDSU Adjunct Math Professor with the Capitol University
Center.
As one who's spent tr4 years in County and State govemments, and 19 years in the
small business of farming and ranching, I know the importance of promoting real

economic developrEent,
Job growth is where we must focus, I've seen firsthand the serious problems
caused by poor decisions. Even here in South Dakota, a serious lack of ieadership in the
State Legislature can kill.iobs and hurt people.
State-level ObarnaCare is a perfect example, On the national level, Obama's
socialized medicine is already destroying
jobs.
Now, politioians without the courage to
lead are pushing to implement it in South Dakota!
I was privileged to help lead the fight against ObarraCare in South f)akota, strongly
opposing ObamaCare bilts SB 38 and SB 43 in 2011 and supporting HB 1165 and HB
1167 in 2012 to protect South Dakotans from

pressure and voted to implement ObamaCarg-iq South Dakota years
ahead
of
schedule
(HB
1199 in 2013).
. As a Reagan
Republican, I believe it's about truiy serving the pcople and facilitating your success.
This is a proven winning strategy tbr improving current
jobs,
bringiirg in new
jobs,
developing business, spurring economic developrnent, and clearing the rvay for prosperity,
qnal
marriaqe
and for the rigft
to life. As a pro-life husband and father, I support strong family values. Taking care of
our kids is one of the rnost important things we can do.
That's why I co-sponsored and voted for HB 12Il rnz}ll, to strengthen South
Dakota's current informed consent laws by instituting a three-day waiting period for all
abortions, the same as is usually required for even minor sttrgeries. Every year, wolnen
and children are hurt by pood;'regulated abortion practices.
Another main reason tr want to contin
defbnd the 2nfu\mqndx%L
South Dakota enioys a proud heritage of hunting and responsible firearms
or.vnership. I've spent years fighting for citizen self-defense and have worked to preserve
the right to kcep and bear arms.
I am pleased to repgrt that I have earned an "A*" rating and endorsement from the
National Association for Gun Rights.
In 2011 I co-sponsored HB 1204, the Employee Safety Bill to defend your right to
carry a firearm for self-defense or hunting in your own private vehicle without fear of
losing your
job.
I supported HB 1010 in 2013,the Constitutional Carry Bill to guarantee your right
to self-defense.
I also strongly support the Firearms Protection Bill of this year (HB 1253), to
STOP President Obama's anti-gun agenda in South Dakota and keep anti-gun billionaire
Michael Bloomberg from implementing city-levei gun bans, something that has been
tried in Rapid City, Sioux Falls and other towns in years past.
I was shocked to see Rounds and Duvall vote against the Second Amendment.
The gun control they are unfortunately supporting is a direct attack on our way of iife!
strongly disagree with their voting records!
Lastly, one of the biggest reasons I decided to run for office is the desire to serve
and support the community that has given us so much.
Denise and I attend New Lif-e Assembly Church and are privileged to help lead
community outreach with our music group, Blood Washed Band, in numerous retirement
homes, senior citizen groups, volunteer organizations and in prison ministry.
I'm also very blessed to work with my wife, Denise, with the nationally sponsored
Divorce Care group, and am a Certified Facilitator for Strengthening Families with the
SDSU Extension Service.
Ultimately, helping people is what it's all about. That's why I want to continue
serving as your state Representative.
Can I count on your vote?
I want to continue as your voice at the State Capitol. Continuing the work for
honest and open government in Pierre won't be easy. That's why I hope you'll return the
enclosed Victory Reply.
I'm running in order to continue growing jobs,
protecting the family, defending the
Second Amendment, and supporting the community. But Lanit do it without your hilp.
Please fill out and return the enclosed Victory Reply. If you can, please include a
donation so that I can calry this message of good, honest government
an6 support for
community throughout District 24.
With your support, I will stand for the people of Stanley, Sully, Hughes and Hyde
Counties.
Mark Venner
Republican Candidate for State House, District24
P.S. I'm running for re-election as your State Representative because I want to serye
the community that has been such a blessing to me and my family.
I remain focused on growing jobs,
protecting the right to life and traditional
marriage, standing up for the 2no Amendrnent, and supporting community.
As your State Representative from 2010-2012,I was privileged to help lead the
fight for key pro-life, pro-family
and pro-gun legislation. In order to continue this
important work I hope can earn your vote on June 3'd.
