3. Pull down the map on the board and discuss with the class and point out things they
see on the map.
4. Print out and show 3 different types of maps for the class to compare and contrast
together and point out how to read the map and what they see on the map.
5. Create a map of the classroom together and how to get to certain places in the
classroom.

will have to draw a map from the classroom to the office or to PE or any other rooms in
the school.
7. Students will get materials and create a map from the classroom to their ending
location with putting symbols and drawing in important places in the school. Students
will write the directions down on a piece of paper alone.

o G5.2.1 Identify titles and symbols maps.
o G5.2.3 Construct a map key from given symbols and choose a map title.
o G5.2.4 Give and follow simple oral directions to move from one location to another.
I will use the maps, the presentation and written directions to measure the students
understanding of maps and locations..
Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson.
I will know the students understand the concepts from the map they created with their
group, how they present the map and the directions the wrote down to get to the
location.
H. Closure:
A student will pair up with a partner and explain what they learned today as if their
partner wasnt in class today.
I. Reflection:
J. 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach?
I think teaching the students how to create the map will be easiest because I think
it is simple to create a map using the previous knowledge on maps.
2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?
The most challenging will be teaching the directions for students who really struggle
with north, south, east and west.
