Water Polo Knockout

5 Players per goal with a total of 4 goals (20 people)

2
Groups will be student chosen based on competitive level. Goals on the left hand side
will be deemed as most competitive, while goals on the right hand side of the pool will
be non-competitive.

All players will be shooters, and all players will be goalies. There will be a line of
shooters and one goalie. Once the first player shoots, he or she will then swim to the
goal and become the goalie. The goalie for the initial shot gets the ball and throw it to
the next thrower. The first goalie swims and gets in the back of the line.

Needed: Pool (a 25ftx25 foot works best, but use what's available), 4 water polo balls
(or usable pool ball), four goals (water polo or small soccer goals) 20 noodles (for
students who can't tread water for very long)

Focus: student shooting and saving shots (goalie)

Psychomotor: Demonstrate proper shooting technique by getting the ball on target 4 out
of 5 times by the end of the game. NASPE # 1 ; MA CF # 2.17

Cognitive: Identify correctly 4 areas of the goal were students should be aiming for
during closure questions. NASPE # 2 ; MA CF # 2.17

Affective: Show good sportsmanship by encouraging other students to do well at least
once during each game. NASPE # 4 ; MA CF # 7.10

Rules and Regulations:
4 players will create a line about 10 yards away from the goal
1 player will be in the goal playing as the goalie.
On the teachers whistle, the game will begin, starting with a shot from the first
shooter.
Once the shooter takes the shot, he becomes the goalie.
The initial goalie will get the ball, either from inside the net or out of bounds and
pass it to the next shooter. (he will then swim to the end of the shooting line) The
2nd shooter then takes a shot on the new goalie.
Students will earn two points for every goal they score, and one point for every
shot they save (shots wide or not on target do not count as saves)
The game will be played for 5 minutes, the students at the end of the 3 minutes
with the highest score wins!

Safety Tips:

No shooting the ball until the goalie is ready and looking at you.
3
Students must shoot from at least one lane line away (roughly 8 yards)
If you can not tread water for an extended period of time, or are feeling tired from
swimming, as the teacher for a noodle to keep you afloat.

Extension Up:
Students in the shooting line will back up 3 yards.
Extension down:
Students in the shooting line will go 3 yards closer.

If a pin gets knocked over, the player whose pin got knocked over will get out of
the pool and WALK behind the opponents pins.
That player is in jail and can only return to the game if they catch a ball thrown by

the team who it last touched) may get out, get the ball, and start with the ball.
The team that can successfully knock down all five of the opposing teams pins is
the winner!
