in pharmacy faculty of muhammadiah tangerang college. In here, I will to tell you

about a little of my mind about indonesia to be independent country. In here, I will
discuss Indonesia from the utilization of natural resources point of view, to reduce
import of drugs raw materials, so that, make indonesia to be independent country.
Now, I will deliver my argument
According to me,The independent country can be seen from the ability of
the country to meet the nations needs without relying to the other country.
indonesia has natural resources that can be utilized to meet the nation's
needs. One of them is in health care, especially in pharmaceutical world.
Lately, the development of pharmaceutical industries in Indonesia is moving
rapidly. Indonesia is able to meet the drugs need in the country. but, about
96% of the raw materials that be used to production procces are come from
abroad. It can cause the weakening of the Indonesian economy. one way to
minimize the amount of imported raw materials is ,by replacing chemical-
based drugs into natural materials. Because Indonesia has a lot of Natural
Resources, especially plants that can be utilized as raw materials for drugs.
nearly 30,000 species of medicinal plants in Indonesia. It means, about 80%
species of medicinal plants that be known in the world can be found in
Indonesia. So that, it imposible if Indonesia cannt to be the producer of the
natural medicine in the world. Beside that, natural medicine have more
advantages than chemical drugs, like : it has low side effect because it dont
use the raw chemical. Then, it has less compotition than chemical drugs, the
production process is more simple, and the raw materials are available in
Indonesia.
But, there are several problem to realize this program. The first, our nation
perseption about natural medicine. A lot them have assume that natural
medicine give less teraphy effect than chemical drugs. Second, high costs of
the research . to develop the new drug research surely need much money and
efforts, especially it related with humans health. Third, the doctors are still
doubt to prescribe natural medicine, because it is not supported by clinical
trials to supporting the safety of drug used. Fourth, the Technology and
production costs are too expensive. To produce the new drugs, especially
natural medicine, need the high costs because it requires a long procces and
use sophisticated technology. The last, a quality of medicinal plants is not
adequate. no special handling and evenly for maintenance the medicinal
plants. It make, the quality of medicinal plants are different for each region.
The problem can be overcome if there is a good cooperation from various
parties. The government should be support from material and immaterial to
realize the research programs to develop natural medicine, by increase the
research budget . beside that , from the academics should have cooperate with
other countries to realize this research program, so the research costs can be
minimized. The pharmaceutical industry and governments should collaborate
and seek to develop the natural medicines, so that the problem of production
cost can be reduced. To improve the quality of medicinal plants, the
government should hold a groups from farmers to develop the medicinal
plants, so the quality of medicinal plants can be better. If all of these
programs is realized, it will produce the drug products from natural
materials, that have passed clinical trials, so the doctor will believe and can
prescribe natural medicines. Automatically, our nation will believe when use
the natural medicine.
If indonesia be able to producing the pharmaceutical raw materials from
nature, it can decrease the amount of import chemical materials from aboard.
It means, the import dependence can be overcome. Even, really possible if
Indonesia became a major producer of natural medicine in the world. Because
the potential of biological resources in Indonesia are very abundant and, seen
from the development of the medical natural use in various world like china,
korea, india, europe, etc. it will make Indonesia became an independent
country in the utilization of natural resources as raw materials for the drug
without exploiting them.
