I am a driven person willing to learn new things and looking to widen my work career aspects.
Whilst at university I have been offered work experience at a variety of media companies from
Manchesters number one radio station Key 103, where I had an interview aired to local newspaper
The York Press where I had a number of articles published.
Key Skills
Writing I am very adaptable in the style of writing I can use, from serious news stories to quirky
feature stories having written a number of different types of stories in and out of class. I enjoy
writing feature pieces as I can be creative and explore the piece in a lot more detail than a normal
news story. I have written stories regarding people rejecting the Trolleybus coming to Leeds and
covered the Budget day 2014.
Interviewing - I am never hesitant to approach people ain the street to ask them their opinion on a
situation. I have shown this in a number of ways throughout my journalistic work experience, one
example is when I completed work experience at Key 103 where I was asked to go and search for a
young boy who was camping outside the Manchester Evening News Arena for 14 nights to meet his
idol Lady Gaga, on this task I had to come up with relevant questions to ask him then go back and
edit the vox pops, the audio was put on the radio in the entertainment news bulletin.
Creativity - Currently at university I am part of a small group creating a magazine for a niche
audience. Together, after a lot of research we decided that the market was missing a magazine for
students taking a Gap Year. We have to come up with a style for the magazine as well as a colour
scheme and name. Whilst in taking part in Camp America, I had a lot of free time with the children
each day, in this time I would have to come up with fun activities to keep the children occupied.
Organisational To make sure I complete all the tasks at hand, I organise my time effectively,
writing a plan of what to do that day, and stick to it as much as I can. By doing this I meet the
required deadlines, which was portrayed whilst completing work experience at The Bolton News
were on many occasions I was sent out to record vox pops and had to be back and have the story
written within the required time.
Reliable/Trustworthy - Whilst on work experience at key 103, The Bolton Time and The York Press I
was trusted to go out alone and interview members of the public for particular stories. I also show
these skills at my part time job as a cashier at Morrisons supermarket, where I must turn up to work
on time and deal with a large amount of money.
Software - During the magazine project we used In-design and Photoshop which I am comfortable
with using. I am also familiar with the editing software Final Cut Pro and have used it on many
occasions to edit software for my Broadcast project.
