Process & Quality Control with Dr. Schenk Inspection System
General purpose of a web inspection system is optical defect control for both roll-to-roll and
roll-to-sheet systems. One or more light sources illuminate a narrow material strip across
the full web width where line scan cameras are focussing on. The optical resolution is
determined by the number of cameras (cross web resolution) and their speed repeating the
line scan across the material in a second (scan frequency). All acquired video signals above
a certain threshold are taken as local deviations (defects) and further processed for
classification. These classification results are statistically edited for final web qualification
and summarized in roll reports.
The EasyInspect web inspection system is an automatic optical inspection (AOI) system
quoted herein dedicated for high level control of product quality and manufacturing process.
It uses special 8K-cameras connected to a Master PC with a low-noise dual-line CMOS-chip
paired with dedicated high bright and perfectly uniform LED illumination units. Via the MIDA
technology (s.b.) an ultra-fast optical channel multiplexing is accomplished featuring a large
variety of setups on only one single camera scan line. Cameras and LED illumination are
proprietary Dr. Schenk technology.
MIDA optics (Multiple Image Defect Analysis) combines several different illumination setups
(optical channels) with one camera line. This way of different lighting conditions catches
defects which would otherwise remain unseen and safely separates yield-critical from
cosmetic defects. MIDA technology is based upon ultra-high speed LED illumination
multiplexing (up to 65.000 times/sec) where either LEDs with different colours (wave
lengths), or intensities (brightness) or angles (darkfield-brightfield-reflection-transmission)
are applied.
Dr. Schenks Sirius Light Technology (SLT) is the essential for MIDA. The first step in
detecting a defect is being able to see it. This may sound simple but depending on the
properties of the inspected materials, large quantities of light can be required for defects to
stand out. Like Sirus, the brightest star in the night sky, Dr. Schenks Sirius Light
Technology delivers more light than other inspection systems are capable of providing.
Ultra-bright LEDs ensure that no defect can go unnoticed. While more light reveals more
defects it also shows them in greater detail. Furthermore, Sirius Light Technology can direct
the light at the material in different angles - just as Sirius is composed of more than one
star, Dr. Schenk Sirius Light Technology offers more than one illumination angle to
illuminate defects. And just as the light from Sirius covers different spectral classes, Sirius
Light Technology can use different wavelengths to reveal defects more reliably for better
qualification and classification. Sirius Light Technology allows customizing the illumination to
use the right amount and kind of light to detect the defects that matter to you .
EasyMeasure monitors process drifts and larger area product changes like thickness, haze,
porosity, reflectivity, cloudiness, colour, visible light transmission, IR- or UV light absorption
and many more. Each of the 8192 camera pixels is used as an individual brightness gauge
for optical properties acquisition from the full material width and length. The applied unique
dynamic range of more than 65.000 gray levels (a human eye sees ~100 gray level)
provides decisive information about the manufacturing process and the final material quality.
