How to Give a Friday Khutbah

1. Say as salam alaikum wa rahmat Allah wa barakatuh standing and facing the audience.
2. Somebody else will give the Adhan in front of you.
3. Recite the following Khutbah al-Hajah

Translation: Indeed, all praises are for Allah. We praise Him, we seek His help, we ask for His
forgiveness. We seek the protection of Allah from the evils of ourselves and from the evil of our
deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can mislead him, and whomsoever Allah misleads, none
can guide him. I testify that there is none worthy of worship except Allah, He is one and only
without any parter, and I testify that Muhammad is His servant and messenger. May Allah shower
His special mercy, blessings and peace upon him, his family and his companions.
Thereafter, I seek the protection of Allah from satan the accursed:
O Believers, be aware of Allah as it is due to Him and do not let death come unto you except in
the state of submission to Him.
O humankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and from
him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them both He created many men and

women and fear Allh through whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (Do not cut the
relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allh is always watching over you. [Surah al-Nisa: 1]
O You who believe! Keep your duty to Allh and fear Him, and always speak the truth.
He will direct you to do righteous good deeds and will forgive you your sins. And whosoever obeys
Allh and His Messenger (Sal-Allaahu 'alayhe Wa Sallam) has indeed achieved a great success.
[Surah al-Ahzab: 70-71]

4. After reciting the above, recite a verse of the Quran of his choice preferably about the topic of
his khutbah, or one may suffice with the above verse.
5. Read a Hadith in Arabic if possible.
6. Begin English portion.
7. End with any short dua in English or Arabic. One may recite the following:

8. After saying the above, sit down for about 5 seconds.
9. Begin 2nd khutbah, reading the above khutbah in Arabic.
10. Follow steps 3-6
11. Make dua a bit longer if possible.
12. Follow step 7 and begin the prayer.
