Elementplan Plans at the push of a button 18
30 years ago, we stood at the beginning of
rapid CAD development. Drawing work was
replaced by interactive work on the compu-
ter, we designed2D plans. The vision of ma-
king everything three-dimensional was
present, but difficult to implement. Today,
our customers are convinced about 3D de-
sign.
By an "integrated solution," we mean a hy-
brid working method, a mixture of plan-ori-
ented (CAD) and model-oriented (BIM)
work. Plans will also be necessary in the fu-
ture; therefore, we continue to attach value
on the perfect and largely automatic prepa-
ration of plans.
At the same time, we employ the value-
added of the intelligent three-dimensional
model. A constant overview of the entire
object with constant availability of all de-
tails, consistent consideration of changes
and simple visual control options are only
some of the advantages of this system.
Moreover, the 3D model offers the option of
data transmission according to criteria of
quantity, cost and time. Such information is
used in the working process and for inte-
grated business planning and resource
planning. Thus, we ensure that there is no
repeated assessment of such data. Greater
quality, security and effectiveness are the
direct consequences.
We have always engaged in completely vi-
sualising the goal of construction. Now we
are taking a further step - we also visualise
the processes, and are thus able to present
construction steps, work planning and
many other procedures not only in terms of
figures, but also as virtual graphic objects.
A picture is worth a thousand words!
Today, we work with many of our custo-
mers according to this principle. The re-
sult is that the work can be mastered
more simply, more clearly, more rapidly
and without any errors. In doing so, our
customers create for themselves a pro-
fitable advantage in view of their compe-
titors.
BIM - " Building Information Modeling" - describes an integrated overall process for planning, building and using structures.

With Allplan, we offer you a forward-looking
design system that satisfies the most strin-
gent requirements, and indeed in two man-
ners - facilitating top performance and
solving the most difficult tasks and objecti-
ves.
At the same time - and this is just as impor-
tant - Allplan is a system that is easily mas-
tered, which relieves users in the handling
of the various tasks of everyday work.
A solution from the industry and for the
industry - with specific expertise from
the first stroke!
Allplan is the design system for architects
and engineers that is employed world-wide
and available in more than two dozen of
languages. Open communication interfaces
(DXF, DWG, PDF, IFC and many more) to
other systems ensure data exchange and
interdisciplinary cooperation between the
trades.
Allplan Precast for precast factories
On the basis of this software, Nemetschek
Engineering GmbH develops special appli-
cations for precast parts. Relieved of the
work on CAD fundamentals, as such are
needed for every type of building design,
one can be fully focused on the interests of
the precast parts structure. With consistent
data, from the drafting of the architect,
through the main computer of production,
up to assembly and billing, the leading in-
tegrated solution of the industry has been
created!
Value-added
Many of our customers employ a holistic
approach to jobs. Without any additional
work, Allplan Precast provides a 3D visuali-
sation in the generation of offers; this visua-
lisation is thereupon consulted as a secure
and error-free calculation basis for billing.
This solution guarantees security as to both
planning and costs, often with reduced ex-
penses compared to traditional cost calcu-
lation.

The art of planning is to anticipate difficul-
ties in execution. This objective corres-
ponds to our vision of planning, checking
and producing everything virtually and also
visualising the processes. We pursue this
with the development of our products and
give the users professional tools and me-
thods.
When we talk about planning, we not only
mean drawings, but also data: This data is
automatically analysed from the plans and
can be drawn upon, on a one-to-one basis,
for production, logistics or invoicing.
When we talk about plans, we not only
mean the documents, which are usually in
paper form, but also objects, which we can
visualise understandably for everyone ob-
jects that are accessible for further use,
both numericaly and visually, without the
employees involved needing to be CAD
specialists.
With our products, you perform significantly
more, with regard to planning services,
quality and added value of results used for
production and invoicing, particularly when
taking an integrated view.
Planning means anticipating the construction

Precast plants frequently receive the design
in paper or digital form. The aim is to realise
these documents quickly and faultlessly as
precast parts. Allplan imports these plans,
which are usually delivered as a
DXF/DWG/IFC file, in a simple manner:
Click on the file, drag onto the Allplan draw-
ing surface done.
Afterwards, the process of generating ele-
ments starts: intelligent objects - that is,
precast parts - are developed.
The areas are automatically broken down
into appropriate precast elements, suitable
for construction, production, transport and
assembly.
However, time and again, there are special
features: This is where the user selectively
intervenes and adds the required details to
the automatically produced results. If sub-
sequent changes should require panelisa-
tion, these manual additions are taken into
consideration again by Allplan Precast.
From the objects, the shuttering robot sub-
sequently recognises the outline of a pre-
cast part, or the automatic concrete
spreader recognises the recess. It is no lon-
ger necessary to enter a new input for the
control of the robots; this is directly provi-
ded by Allplan Precast.
With a well coordinated design process, All-
plan users accomplish enormous design
performance that is well above-average.

Efficient with parametrised components
Demands on the production of precast
parts are becoming increasingly complex.
Accordingly, the applications must be flexi-
ble, not only in order to immediately starta
project, but also to be able to keep up with
constant changes.
Parametrised components are extremely ef-
ficient, but sometimes not flexible enough.
That is why we break down complex com-
ponents into smaller units such as consoles
and assemble the finished part from com-
ponents. It can become even more compli-
cated, it is possible to intervene
interactively and take advantage of the pos-
sibilities of CAD.
The advantage: Allplan is always manage-
able for technical draughtsmen, even with
highly complex parts.
iPart an intelligent object for every occa-
sion
iPart guarantees utmost planning flexibility.
If parametrised components are too rigid,
you can also use architectural components
(elements e.g. a spiral stairway) or freely
modelled 3D elements from Allplan and de-
fine them as an iPart. With this, the adopted
components receive all of the attributes that
you are familiar from the ceiling and wall de-
sign, including lists and element plans.
Optimising production - Identify
In order to optimise design and production,
it is better to use as many of the same parts
as possible and apply the identifier: It
automatically initiates a comparison of the
precast parts with defined attributes. It in-
vestigates whether the geometry, reinforce-
ment and installation parts are identical and
then it labels identical precast parts with the
same number. Any change immediately
takes effect and is displayed; therefore, the
user has an overview and can immediately
intervene in an optimum manner.
Connectors bring components together
The hubs of the precast parts are a chal-
lenge in construction design and pro-
duction.
With new methods, we automate the con-
struction process and ensure that the parts
fit together. The components interact with
one another. The selection of the type of
connector, entry of the parameters, click on
girder and support, done. This way, com-
plex construction design work on different
components and on different plans is safely
solved at once.

Formwork at the click of a mouse
Point to the precast part, click on the space
the formwork is ready. Using the exam-
ples of a stairway, the simplicity and effecti-
veness of FormBau can be impressively
demonstrated.
Just a dozen parameters are sufficient for
designing a stairway. Other precast parts
are modelled using structure-specific
functions, as it is easier to building the
model than to work in sections and views.
FormBau now shutters the concrete volume
automatically. The results are position
plans, parts lists an exploded drawing and
data for the milling machine. Of course,
each individual surface can also be directly
processed or additional formwork desig-
ned. Important details are the joints and
mitre cuts, which can be set in a targeted
manner.
Our customers use this in order to produce
the concrete bodies in a slightly conical
form and therefore strike them better
childs play, with the precision of a milling
machine.
Exploded drawings a revolution in
formwork construction
This precision provides advantages with the
construction of formwork, with striking and
subsequent processing of the concrete.
These advantages make themselves appa-
rent in significant savings of time and ma-
terials. The conclusion of our customer
Rauter: 5-axis milling machine and ex-
ploded drawings are a revolution in form-
work construction.

From the design to the reinforcing mesh
welding system
What does seamless interplay mean?
Nothing other than integration a real need
of the user, in order to promote cooperation
between people and the interplay of soft-
ware and rule out errors in planning and
production.
A classic example of this is ceiling pro-
duction. The ceiling layouts are transferred
to the analysis program by Allplan Precast.
There, the bearing conditions, loads, etc.
are defined and the system is analysed. The
stress on the ceiling can be very nicely read
off from the colour image of the reinforce-
ment. These results flow back into the lay-
out in Allplan Precast, where the
panelisation of the ceiling and the fully au-
tomated reinforcement process takes
place.
We regard this construction design as a
suggestion, which can now be arbitrarily
modified and supplemented. The structu-
rally necessary reinforcement, for example,
in the area of a recess, is carried out by the
design engineer. The interplay of colours al-
lows the identification of how much of the
necessary reinforcement is covered.
Production-ready, optimised reinforce-
ment
A highlight, are the functions and rules,
which ensure that, for example, a reinforce-
ment mesh welding system only receives a
layout that is producible.
With these expensive machines, there
should not be a production standstill or
half-finished reinforcements. Allplan Pre-
cast already checks the options in advance
and indicates to the design engineer what
is not feasible.
In this process chain, information is not lost
and there is no multiple data input, sources
of error are ruled out and smooth-running
production is thereby ensured.
Visualised with PDF in 3D understan-
ding reinforcement
PDF in 3D, this is a new dimension, which
will lead to more productivity and higher
quality in the plant. Whether it involves a
detail, a building, a column with reinforce-
ment, Allplan provides the 3D structure and
the user turns, rotates and inspects it from
all angles, as though he were holding the
part in his hand. Furthermore, he can lay
and measure a section.
This transparency cannot be provided by
even the best plan.

17
The quantity calculation in Allplan, parts
lists, reinforcement schedules and item lists
are a profitable centrepiece of Allplan Pre-
cast.
Simply because the policies for calculating
the quantities are not only based on stan-
dards and physical principles, but can also
be configured according to customer-spe-
cific, individual calculation policies.
Allplan Precast analyses the data for a pre-
cast part under consideration of the global
geometry. For examples, if a recess stre-
ches across two panel elements, for the
commercial calculation, one recess is pre-
ferably calculated, while the concrete dis-
tributor, of course, receives the data for two
recesses.
Steel and reinforcement schedules are avai-
lable for the actual or theoretical steel
lengths according to standards. Groups of
components are evaluated as a whole or in-
dividually.
Many small and cleverly devised policies,
which are indirectly also anchored within
your pricelists and offers, can therefore be
profitably applied and integrated into com-
mercial programs with the invoicing, wit-
hout manual reworking.
Data for commercial systems
Allplan Precast can supply the data for
commercial systems in a wide variety of for-
mats. As there is no standardisation, the ea-
sily adaptable interfaces have simply
emerged. Allplan supplies the data in a ge-
nerally readable format (ASCII, CSV), so
that any ERP software can directly process
this data. However, we also provide an SQL
database with the TIM Technical Informa-
tion Manager, so that direct access is also
feasible.
Data for master computers and plant
machinery
For the direct data transfer from CAD to the
various robots in the plant, the Unitechnik
data has quasi proven and established itself
as a standard. However, an interface only
controls the technical side, it is quasi the al-
phabet. Allplan Precast ensures the correct
content, i.e. that the formwork robot places
the magnets correctly, the reinforcing mesh
welding systems produces the mesh wit-
hout problems and the laser projects the
third dimension by layers.
Coordinated with manufacturers of ro-
bots and master computer systems, All-
plan Precast guarantees that a plant runs
correctly and trouble-free, right from the
start.

Automated formwork and reinforcement
plans
This is for the production of basic ceiling
and wall systems. The individual panel
drawing has always been available, regar-
ded as a complete formwork and reinforce-
ment plan. These automatic plans are
created once after planning is completed.
Allplan does much more:
The Elementplan module solves the task of
automatically creating a plan from a model
with geometry and reinforcement. These
main features make this module unique:
The automatically created plan can be ar-
bitrarily modified and supplemented
An update mechanism ensures that the
model and plans are always consistent
within themselves
The general layout for a plan is graphically
displayed uniquely and individually for va-
rious types of precast parts.
From CAD and BIM to an integrated
solution
This technology brings about a clear in-
crease in productivity and quality. The opti-
mal supplement to this is a production
terminal in the factory, in order to both see
the plans and visualise the model as a 3D
format in PDF.
The integrated solution of Allplan Pre-
cast is also setting new benchmarks in
the discussion regarding BIM - our cus-
tomers in precast parts factories are al-
ready working with it.
