Needles: One 16 circular each sizes US 5 (6) and 7 (8) One set of dpns size US 7 (8) or one 32 or longer size US 7 (8) cable for magic loop

Gauge*: 5 (4.5) stitches per 1 inch in 1 x 1 rib
*Gauge for this hat is calculated when piece is laid flat and NOT stretched. Because it is worked in a rib there can be variation (and forgiveness) if the knitters gauge is not exact. Use needles that help you best find gauge.
With smaller needles cast on 96 stitches. Place marker (pm) and join to begin working in the round. Work 1 x 1 rib until piece measures 3 (3.5) inches from cast on edge.
Once ribbing is the desired length, switch to larger needles and work Rounds 1 and 2 of the Broken Rib until piece measures 7 (7.5) inches from cast on edge, ending with Round 2.
Crown:
Round 1: *K 14, skp; repeat from * to end of round. Round 2: Continuing in 1x1 rib, *alternate k 1 p 1 for 15 stitches, ending with a knit stitch. Repeat from * 5 times. Round 3: k 14, skp; *k 13, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. (Your marker will travel 1 stitch to the left). Round 4: *p 1, k 1. Repeat from * to end of round. Round 5: k 13, skp; *k 12, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 6: *k 1, p 1 for 13 stitches, ending with a knit stitch. Repeat from * 5 times. Round 7: k 12, skp; *k 11, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 8: *p 1, k 1. Repeat from * to end of round. Round 9: k 11, skp; *k 10, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 10: *k 1, p 1 for 11 stitches, ending with a knit stitch. Repeat from * 5 times. Round 11: k 10, skp; *k 9, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 12: *p 1, k 1. Repeat from * to end of round. Round 13: k 9, skp; *k 8, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 14: *k 1, p 1 for 9 stitches, ending with a knit stitch. Repeat from * 5 times. Round 15: k 8, skp; *k 7, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 16: *p 1, k 1. Repeat from * to end of round. Round 17: k 7, skp, *k 6, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 18: *k 1, p 1 for 7 stitches ending with a knit stitch. Repeat from * 5 times. Round 19: k 6, skp; *k 5, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 20: *p 1, k 1. Repeat from * to end of round. Round 21: k 5, skp; *k 4, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 22: *k 1, p 1 for 5 stitches ending with a knit stitch. Repeat from * 5 times. Round 23: k 4, skp; *k 3, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 24: *p 1, k 1. Repeat from * to end of round. Round 25: k 3, skp; *k 2, skp. Repeat from * 4 times. On the 4 th skp, you will slip the stitch, remove marker, knit the next stitch and skp. Replace marker. Round 26: *k 1, p 1, k 1; repeat from * 5 times. Remove marker and break yarn. Thread and close remaining 18 stitches on WRONG side. Block and enjoy!
