Before nstallatlon the beater vheel s to be statically baJLanced*
For this, the balancing unlt shaft is inserted in the beater wleol

shown n the sketch The bearings are posltloned on pedeatals vhlch
are hlgh enou^h so that the ^beater vheel s free to rotate above
e^round, The vheel is nov easy to t u m in the bearln^ and when t
is well balanced it ulll remain stili in any position* Jf a small
uel^ht is placed on a veb at poaltion Gy the vhole unlt ulll revolve
I f the vheel has a corresponding outof*balance the heavler side
v/ill t u m doun to positlon S^ Nov if the vheel is t u m e d so that
thla polnt coraes to positlon S and at G, suffIcient veight is
added so that the vheel does not revolve any more then the out-of-
balance can be detennlned*
The beater vheel is to be balanced at first vithout beater plates
cover plates or liners as veli as guide discs. lHen there ia out-of-
balance the counter balance veight is to be velded to the web
(preferably on the Inner side of the veb)*
The beater plates are to be indlvidually veighed before inatallation
and pieces vith equal veights are to be nstalled opposlte to each
other.
For 'the purpose of balancing small vooden vedges "K^ are to be
hajmnered in betveen the inner side of the beater plates and the disc
edgeo Thereby the beater plates are pressed firmly on to the vebs
and vhen balancing they remain in the vorking positlon.
After the beater plates have been installed the vheel is to be
balanced again^n If a counterbalance v e i ^ t has to be added it should
be velded to the beater plate on the side next to the veb* The front
side of the beater plate must remain even*
The mming quietness of the mili is dependent on a veli balanced
beater vheel* If the z*unning of the mili is not quiot after a period
of time by unequal vear of the beater plates then the vheel should
be replac.i by a baJ.anced vheel, Large out-of-balance can lead to
the destruction of the bearing or fractre of the shaft.

BALANCING OF PULVERIZER WHEEL
ELEMENTS
Unbalance in the pulverizer wheel is to be balanced by building
up material in a v/elding process at the point opposlte unbalance.
It shall always be the objective to build up as littie material
as possible. Instead, the unturned parts of unequal weight causing
unbalance, such a cross elements, cover plates and pulverizer
blades, have to be graphically balanced beforde they are raounted.
Example this purpose, the parts are to be
weighed as accurately as possible and
to be arranged in pairs as shown in
column 1 of the example at the'left.
Column 2 shows the differences in wei^ht
Dg. Columns 3 and 4 show the same but
arranged to decreasing Dg,
The Dg causing unbalance are marked,
according to size, as forces in the
string polygon (bottom right corner)
parallelly to the blade direction, Start
with the biggest Dg at O and place any
subseguent force in such a way that the
string polygon ends as close to O as
possible. The distance between O and the
last arrow head is the remaining un-
balance.
In- the pulverizer wheel diagram in the
bottom left corner, the forces are entered
on the line of action, startiggfcomthe
center, thereby determining the part
numbers- These are recorded in column
55of the above table and are marked on
the part. Pairs with Dg O are not
indicated in the string polygon. They
are mounted opposite each other at any free points. The blades are
attached to the wheel ,in consecutive seguence. The graphic proce-
dure is very accurate. However, since weighing accuracy is limited,
the wheel must be statically balanced befor^^e and after attachment
of the pulverizer blades (see M 758).

This operating instruction page 1
concerns PULVIS clutch:
M o d e l . V 759 . .
vith designation Comm.Nr. C ^. - ,
Pabr . Hr . F
for horizontal nounting and constant speed of revolution, sense
of rotation as req.uired.
Thia PULVIS clutch st designed for a speed of
590
x*p
For tho initial operation of the clutch only that part of the supplied^
5U0
PULVIS povder of . . . . kg has to be filled in vhich is neceasary
for the desired pover transnission.
The folloving eatimated data are calculated and may slightly vary
hecauae of tolerancea of dimensiona and speed Yariationa.
Eatimated data:
apprpx,. itg for ^he tranamiasion of . 620 . ,
correspondingiy more for more pover, e.g.
apprpx^. ^71 itg for the transmission of , , . kM
This clutch has been designed only for the pover tranamiasion
ratings liated above.
Since this PULVIS clutch has to accelerate a machine vith a moment of
inertia of . . . kpm^ to . . . rpm, the interval betveen
3 5
tvo startupa must not be shorter than . . min to avoid excessive
heat'ittg.
This interval betveen tvo atartupa specified by us has to be observed
absolutely unless the laat atartup vas interruped for'any reason at
an earlier stage. If this vas the case, a second start, preferably
vhile the machine is stili running, can be made. Hovever, a third
start must not be attempted prior to the cooling of the PULVIS clutch
to the temperature before the last start. This is usually the case^
after the interval specified by us or correspondingiy earlier if
external cooling is provided.
This PULVIS clutch vas built according to model sheet
draving
and the spare parts liat leaflet VE applies.

PULVIS Shaft Clutches W O
A) ASSEMBLY page 2
Prior to mounting the PULVIS clutch ali Taorea (also those for the
bumpers, Part 11) have to be cleaned from the rust protection
coating by acetone, nitro solvent ete. The height above key has
to be checlced since the feather key nust not press radally upon
the hub.
Mounting and disassembly of the clutch is accomplished by pushing
or pulling the hub of the rotor (Part 1) and not by blovs on the
clutch.
To prevent axial displacement the rotor (Part 1) is equipped vith tvo
set-acrevs (Part 22) and the flange (Part 18) vith tvo set-screva
(Part 23). They are cup point set-screva vhich make countersinking
unnecessary. The positiona of the set-screva (Part 22) vhich are
acceaaible through the holea for the filling screvs (Part 9) after
turning the rotor (Part 1) ^re marked by arrovs on the plane face of
the rotor.
The clutch part can also be secured by presaing the hub of the rotor
(Part 1) to the shaft collar b^ meana of a preasure plate acreved to th
centre of the axle.. xisting aet-screvs (Part 22) hare to be tightened
and must NOT be remored since loose aet-screvs can damage the clutch
and the povder could leak out through the bores.
After the motor has been set up in its place, the clutch part and
flange (Part l8) are moved together until the bumpers (Part 11) extend
equally on both sides of the flange*
The motor has to be aligned in axial and radial direction, if
possible vith a dial gauge Alignment errors must not be greater
than one thousandth of the overall diameter of the clutch. The
accuracy of alignment, the gap betveen the clutch part and flange
part and the equal extension of the bumpers on both sides of the
flange have to be rechecked vhen the inatallation is at vorking
temperature.
Alignment errors vill shov in operation by excessive vear of the
bumpers and may cause damage to the clutch bearings.
B) I DLI NG
After alignment of the clutch it is to be VELL GREASED and alloved
to run idle VTH NO POWDER FILLED IN for a fev seconds to release
the Palmetto gasket rings (Part 3)- (Long storage times of the clutch
or the influence of cold in vinter let the grease harden and the
Palmetto gasket ringa con3equently stick to their alide tracks),
If immediate coupling of the machine occurs, ve recommend several
short startupa of the motor until no more blocking occurs. In doing
so NO EXCESSIVE HEATIIG of the bronze bearings of the clutch must
occur*

After a proper idle run the specified amount of povder has to
"be filled in (it is sufficient to use only one of the filling
"bores after removing the filling screv (Part 9). Prior to cloaing
the rilling hore by tightening up the filling screv, the thread
haa to he cleaned from povder.
Adjustment of the clutch for a certain pover tranamiS3ion, ahove
vhich slippage vithin the clutch vill occur, ia done by filling it
vith the correct amount of povder. Slippage is indicated by the
crackling noise of the signal spring (Part 19) vhich is attached to
the hub of the rotor (Part 1). Por model W UO and larger this signal
spring (Part 19) does not ex3t.
In normal operation the clutch must not become hot_. HEATING INDICATES
PERMANENT SLPPAGE resulting from heavier loading or frequent
overloading. IT IS ESSEUTIAL TO ADD POWDER IMMEDIATELYI
Hovever, should alipping occur at a load higher than desired the povde
quantity should be reduced.
D) LUBRI CATI ON
For lubrication of the sliding faces of the bronze bearings (Part 17)
grease nipplos (Part l6) are provided. Into each nipple grease must
be pressed by means of the grease gun supplied vhich is filled vith
a HIGH DRIPPING POINT GREASE (about l80C). Insertion of grease must
be continued until it overflovs at the intended locations betveen
each bearing (Part 17) and the rotor hub. For easier observation of
grease overflov, either observation grooves are provided on the
flange side in the clutch part or, in the larger clutches observation
holes in the flange (Part l8). Looking along the observation grooves
or holes one can easily notice the grease overfloving during
lubrication.
Exce3sive lubrication can cause grease to enter the povder chamber
through the seals vhich leads to blocking of the clutch. In that
case the clutch has to be dismounted and cleaned in petrol. Prior _
to reassembling ONLY the bronze bearings (Part 17) are to be greased
and nev povder has to be used for refilling the clutch.
E) MAI NTENABCE
Lubrication intervals depend on frequency of startups and duration *
of slipping time. It ia important to lubricate clutches vith a
slipping time of more than 30 seconds prior to each single startup.
With a slipping time of a fev seconds only and about 10 startups per
day it is recommended to grease the clutch every other day.

The lifetime of PULVIS povder depends on the frequency and duration
of startups, the degree of heating of the PULVIS clutch during start-
ups and the frequency of overload periods, When the povder "becomes
spent - due to being crushed, vorn, agglomerated or corroded -
the PULVIS clutch vill not function properly, meaning that the starting
current peak vill renain for a longer period or the motor pro-
tection svitch vill be actuated. This indicates definitely that the
filling has to be replaced. Worn-out povder is characterized by a
significant dust component and the fact that the majority of the
povder pellets are destroyed (halved). Corroded povder also results
in unfavorable startup conditiona,
May ve point out that the older and more vorn out the povder is, the
higher vill be the load transmitted before slippage vill start.
Since, as is generally knovn, cast iron loses its stability after th.erm
overload, care has to be taken that PULVIS clutches are not damaged
by exposure to overheating due to lengthy overloading or insufficient
povder filling.
F) DISASSEMBLY
After draving off the povder (via the filling bore) and - if ex3ting -
slacltening of the TWO set-screvs (Part 22) the clutch can be disassembi
Threaded holes in the front face of the rotor hub (Part l) are provided
vhich enable the clutch to be pulled off from the motor shaft by means
of a suitable forcing plate and -screv in the usual vay.
G) BORES AND KEYVAYS
If> for special reasons, a PULVIS clutch is delivered pre-bored and the
finishing or a change of the original bore is made by the purchaser,
please request our instructions for finishing the borea, since ve must
reject ali liability for improper functioning of the clutch and its
conse^uences if our instructions vere not adhered to.
H) SIGUALLING DEVICES, SLPPAGE SUPERVISION DEVICES
When a PULVIS clutch is equipped vith our electric signalling device
or vith our centrifugal svitch-off device, please pay attention to the
relevant leaflets prior to mounting the clutch,
m
I) SPARE PARTS
We recommend to use original spare parts. Please ask for the spare
part list for your clutch model. PULVIS clutches only function perfect]
vhen original spare parts are being used.

Depending on their mode of operation, clutches or couplings used
for the purpose of connecting' tvo shafts must be properly aligned
vith the required accuracy.
As regards ther mode of operation, these connecting elements are
divided into tvo main group3, namely:
I) couplings vhich are merely intended to compensate for alignment
errors, and
II) clutches vhich must perform a certain function.
The couplings belonging to Group I are designed to enable them to
take up alignment errors, ao that there is no need for adjusting
t hem accurately. Hovever, for thi 3 group of couplings, too, it is
essential to remember the priniple: the more .accurate the adjust-
ment, the less vear of the flexible elements or the lasa damage.
The recommended values for the permissibla alignment errors can be
seen from the descriptive leafleta of the various makes of couplings.
The clutches of Group II, in p^rticular, (e.g. the PULVIS-clutch)
must be aligned very carefully 30 that, generally speaking, any-
alignment errors should not exceed 1/1000 of the Gutside Diameter
of the clutch. Hovever, to achieve this kind of accuracy it is, '
in the majority of cases, no longer possible to make do vith a
feeler gauge and straight-edge What is here required, much rather,
is a dial indicator gauge giving a reading of 1/100 mm and, to
facilitate the attachment of the gauge to one of the clutch members,
a magnetic dial gauge atand vhich, in addition, can be secured by
means of a leather thong against coming adrift accidentally and
dropping to the floor.
Once the dial gauge atand has been attached to one of the clutch
members and after the dial gauge itaelf has been brought up against
the other clutch member (Fig. I) the clutch is given on complete
turn in doing so, hovever, the clutch must be engaged so that both
members of the clutch turn synchronously. In the courae of one com-
plete turn, U to 8 readings are taken, vhich are plotted as shovn
in Fig. 2. When the reading both on the left and on the right is e.g."
-IOy the lateral alignment vith this clutch is correct. A reading
of --60 above and -20 belov means that the double alignment error
amounts to 0,60 mm or the effective alignment error {eccentricity)
to 0,U mm. As the plus deviation is located above and since the
dial gauge is applied to the motor side, this means that the level
of the motor is higher by 0,U mm than that of the driven machine.
When the clutch has been sufficiently aligned in the manner deacribed
above, the dial gauge and the dial gauge stand are applied as shovn
in Fig. 3 in order to check the gap betveen the tvo clutch members.
In doing so, the clutch - as has already been described - is once
again given a complete turn and U to 8 readings are plotted
as in Fig. When above and belov the reading taken vas
-30, this means that the gap is of equal vidth above and

Experience gained vith poorly adjuated flexiT3e couplings:
The recoBunendat i on a made 'by the manuf acturera ( e g in our I n s t r u c
tion Leaflet WOA) in regard to the alignment of flexible couplings,
eapecially regular bolt couplings auch as the Effeff-coupling, or
in reapect of the PULVIS-clutch, are sometimes diaregarded during
their mounting or else it is neglected to readjust these couplings
or clutches in tiae if the operating conditions should happen to
change in the course of regular service,
Sooaer or later such an omisaion begins to manifest tself by an
abnormal vear of the elastic parts, e*g. of the rubber bumpe'rs
(Fig. 1). If thia process of vear is overlooked, the driving pina
or -cans come into direct contact vith the. counter-flange vith
the result that both the driving pins and the holes in the flange
are damaged or vorn (7gs. 2 and 3).
When corractly aligned the max. atressing pont of the elastic
parts (rubber bumpers) ia invariably located tangentially to the
pitch circle vith the load evenly diatributed ver ali elastic
elements (Fig. U).
Hovever, if the shafts are off-centre (as ahovn in Fig, 5) the
elastic elements (i.e. the rubber bumpera) are invarialy stressed
to the maxinum or indeed, overloaded only in one position, e,g,
in Fig. 5 in the uppermost poaition, vhereaa in any other position
they are streased to a snaller extent and, in the bottom position
(as shov in Fig. 5) even completely relieved of any stressea.
Oving to the alignment error, the elastic elements are stressed
vith an additional force. In the course of one complete turu the
force R reaulting from the peripheral force P and the additional
force Z due to the alignment error A decreases from a aaximuiQ to
a minimm value and increases once again to the maxiiDum. Fig, 5
shovs that in the course of one complete turn of the couplingy the
rssul^ant R revolves by 360. Hovever, as in the majority of cases
the rubber bumpera are merely slipped ver the driving pins and
therefore, are not aecured against rotaton, any rubber bumpers
vhich are not seated tghtly on the driving pin begin to turn so
that they are sujected to abnormalt additional vear not only on
their external surface but also inside the holes.
If the process of vear has already progessed to such an extent
that the rubber bumpers are vorn through so that the driving
pins come into direct contact vith the flange, the driving pins
and the counter-flange are vorn as shovn in Figs. 2 and 3 respec*
tively, This vear may become so exten8ve that the driving pins
are broken off.

S o as to facilitate the installation of the motor - vith the PULVIS-
clutch fitted - in its proper place, the driving pins (Fart ,10) as
veli as the aaaociated bujapers (Part 11) have not heen fitted in place
but are separately packed. The threaded studa (Part 26) vhich serve to
aecure the driving pins have likevise been separately packed.
Folloving the appropriate aligning of the motor, the driving pina
must be screved into the W-casing (Part 5)- Every driving pin is
marked vith a number and must only be screved into the threaded
hole marked vith the same number.
The driving pins ahould be tightened until the notches cut into the
W~casing and into the barrel of the driving pins coincide, vhereupon
the threaded stud can likevise be fitted and screved dovn.
When fitting new driving pins, these must be marked vith the number
of the threaded hole and are to be tightened vith a torquing foree
of . , daNa, (torque vrench), They must then be drilled through
the holes for the threaded pins to a depth of several millimetres
and secured by means of the threaded studs.
The motor must then be accurately aligned as described in our
Instruction Leaflet WOA. When this has been done, the bumpers
(Part 11) and vashers (Part 12) must be fitted and secured in
place by means of the lock vashers (Part 13).
