The Perfect Scholarship
At one point in my life graduating high school was my primary goal. Obviously, that goal
was reached or you would not be reading this paper today. I consider myself to be a man of goals
and ideas; a man with a deep passion for what he loves and cares about. This deep passion is
aimed at the planet we inhabit, which explains why I am majoring in geology. At this time in my
life my main goal is to graduate UALR with a bachelors degree in environmental geology and to
continue my education by pursuing a masters degree in petroleum. Being a member of the Theta
Eta Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity gives me the ability to create a network of well-
classed associates and opens up more career opportunities. I try to take life one goal at a time.
However, I do realize how important it is to plan for the future, that being said, I have some
things in mind I would like to accomplish with my degree.
I am seeking a career in the field of geosciences. As an environmental geologist I will
be carrying out some duties that range from studying the interaction between the geosphere,
hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere, and human activities. All of these are very important when
dealing with our planets well-being. As humans we do not realize the extent of the impact we
have on this planet and how detrimental some of our decisions have been. Choosing this career
opens up a window of opportunity for me to find more environmentally friendly alternatives for
fossil fuels, and other solutions for reducing pollution in our environment.

I am certain 10-15 years after I have received my masters degree, I will begin to pursue
my interest in petroleum geology. My curiosity for this field has grown drastically sense hearing
about the oil spills that occurred in the Gulf of Mexico. With a respectable background in
environmental geology and several years of experience, I am positive that I will fit the job
credentials. I seek to work on an offshore oil-rig as the topside project manager. Im not striving
to become an employee; I am on a quest of becoming an employee owner of a company that will
find alternatives for fossil fuels. This is huge goal of mine, and I have come to the realization that
in order to find alternate resources for fuel, I must study our current energy sources to understand
whats harmful to our planet.
If humans continue to pollute the world with fossil fuels, life as we know it will cease to
exist within the coming centuries. I am taking it upon myself to do everything within my own
power to stop this and to create a way of healthier living for our planet. After starting my own
petroleum company and converting it to alternate resources such as hemp oil, I plan on starting a
foundation that invests in bettering the quality of life for every single human being that needs it.
Like I said at the beginning, I am a man of goals and ideas. I have tied myself to these goals and
I am working towards them every day. Unfortunately, college is not free and making these goals
a reality isnt either, thats why I am asking you for help.
