RE: Mini Project 2-Researching the Context
______________________________________________________________________________
Students at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (U.A.L.R) agree that bringing a football team to this
university would increase enrollment, school spirit, and money. Adding a sports program such as football
would benefit the university tremendously. At first, the university would lose profits by acquiring the
assets you need for a football program, but the eventual profit will make the addition to the school much
greater than the initial cost.
We first decided on this topic, because of our mutual love for the game of football. In many groups of our
friends it is often a topic how disappointed we were to find that our school had no football program. Some
of the best experiences many of us had in high school were attending our schools football games and
cheering on its athletes. In our brainstorming session we realized that if there was a U.A.L.R football
program students would come together and create the same kind of endearing memories we did in high
school.
We conducted interviews on U.A.L.R students located in popular spots on campus. More students agreed
than disagreed on getting a football program. The data was formed by taking a survey on U.A.L.R
students. The answers they gave us were very beneficial to our research. The interviewees agreed that a
football program would bring more hype and spirit to the university. An example of how we collected our
information is best explained by us asking the interviewees what side in the issue they support. While
conducting these interviews we thought about how the physical, social, and cultural context helped us
choose our topic. All of these contexts played vital roles in us deciding on a topic. The physical context is
that U.A.L.R does not have a football team. The social context is that there is not much school spirit
present compared to other universities with football teams. The cultural context is football brings more
community involvement and pride to a college atmosphere.
Based on the widespread support across campus for a football team and the imminent gains in profit that
would follow; we have concluded that there should be a Trojan football team in the near future. The
benefits listed are only a portion of those that would accompany the arrival of a football program. The
only draw-back would be that it will take away from other sports programs.
