Dear Anonymous,
Assuming 27 attempts with 83% accuracy, you could expect a percentile
between 71-75.
The sectional cut off is there in some of the colleges but its not high as
IIMs. Say for example overall cutoff at NIRMA is though 94% but
sectional cut off in each section was just 50. The cut offs will go down
for lower ranked colleges.

Hi, Thanks for your advice.I had one question in mind.Is kirloskar better
than Jaipuria lucknow,in terms of exposure & ROI? Which college is
preferable?
Kirloskar harihar vs. Kirloskar pune??
I stay in lucknow & as already told you, i got 74 percentile in cat & 30

MBA from Market n Finance.

Tips For CAT/MBA January 16, 2012 at 8:00 PM
Dear Anonymous,
We will strongly recommend you to try for following colleges first
(reason being your work exp.):
Birla Institute of Management Technology - Noida
Indian Institute of Materials Management - Pune
Amrita School of Business Coimbatore
Alliance Business School Bangalore
I believe you should be able to get a call at least from
Alliance Business School Bangalore, which is a decent college
and being located in a corporate city like Bangalore has its own
advantages too in terms of placements.
Coming back to your questions:
Kirloskar is better than Jaipuria. Kirloskar Harihar should be
preferred as Kirloskar Pune is a new college and no batch has
came of pune branch yet. Secondly the fees at Kirloskar Harihar
is relatively less.

hi sir
i got 52.33 percentile in CAT EXAM 2011. WHAT DO U SAY ABOUT
AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT COURSE IN NON IIM COLLEGE.
Reply
Tips For CAT/MBA January 16, 2012 at 7:46 PM
Hi Appyjappy,
AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT is an evolving market and seems
to be promising. Though the salary packages may not match to
the one which is being offered to Finance or Marketing
managers, still its a specialization where there is not much
competition. You should also consider your what interests you
before going for any specialization, as its your career and later
you should not feel that AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT was not
meant for you.
Before opting for any college do your homework:
- Check out the placement for AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT in
the particular college
- Get the course details what all are they going to offer during
MBA program and whether its outdated syllabus or the latest
one which market is following.
As not many candidates would be aspiring for AGRIBUSINESS
MANAGEMENT I believe you have good chances of getting into a
good college. Please note that the reason why not many
students opt for AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT is because there
is a blind race for popular specialization such as Finance,
Marketing, HR, IT etc., most of the students have not heard at
all about AGRIBUSINESS MANAGEMENT and they hardly have
any knowledge about its potential.

Sorry to say but with 40 percentile its strongly recommended
that you should not join any random college just for the sake of
doing MBA, as that will defy the whole purpose of an MBA. Its
advisable to work hard and look forward to CAT 2012.

How is BIMM pune?? What is the fee structure & Placemnts??
Recommended at cat percentile of 75??
Reply
Tips For CAT/MBA January 17, 2012 at 9:20 AM
Its a decent college though not among top 50 MBA colleges in
India. Still placement is good with Average salary offered at
BIMM Pune was 4.84 Lakhs.
The fees would be around 5 Lakhs for 2 years.(2.5 Lakhs per
year required to be paid in two installments).
With 75 percentile its recommended that you should try first for
following colleges (the first one BIM Noida may be difficult in
case if you don't have work exp.)-
Birla Institute of Management Technology - Noida
Indian Institute of Materials Management - Pune
Indian Institute of Social Welfare and Business Management
Kolkatta
Indian Institute of Forest Management - Bhopal

Good morning sir,
My cat score is 75.70 percentile, no work ex, can you please tell me the
name of the colleges in which i should apply, my priorities are, XIME, T A
Pai Management Institute - Manipal, Manage, kirloskar, welinkar, , should
i try for NIT Trichy..
Reply
Tips For CAT/MBA January 26, 2012 at 7:26 PM
Very Good Morning Akash,
In case if you belong to Tamilnadu(domiciled) then you surely
have a chance at NIT Trichy. If you belong to any other state
and don't have an reservation then sorry to say getting call
from NIT Trichy would be very difficult (based on last years
cutoff).
Though you should still look forward to apply to any college
even if you have 20% chance of getting there
because the cutoffs do vary with regard to the batch of
students applying each year.
Tai Pai's cutoff are also pretty high I believe 85+.
Based on your percentile if you are very keen to join for MBA in
2012-2014 would recommend following 3 colleges(last one BIM
requires a bit higher percentile but is worth trying):
Alliance Business School Bangalore
Christ college Bangalore
Birla Institute of Management Technology - Noida

could easily get calls from the far better colleges mentioned in
my last comment based on your 79+ cat percentile. If you are
very particular about following 2 colleges then surely you can
expect call from them. Below are their ranks:
ITM would be ranked around 75 in India,
BIMM Pune should be ranked 85 in India
Haven't heard any college such as Indira or Indira Gandhi in

I wish you get calls from all 3....but as you know the reality. Its
very difficult to predict anything about the calls... in fact it is
more unpredictable than girls :).
That too in 2012 when so many exams have got scrapped(FMS,
JMET) that makes it more difficult.
To be on safer side apply to some of these Govt. colleges as
well if you find them appealing:
Pune University MBA
DMS, IIT Kanpur
DMS, IIT Roorkee
VGSoM IIT Kharagpur
Bharatidasan Inst. of Mgmt.
Moti Lal Nehru National Inst.
University Business School Chandigarh
National Inst. of Technology Trichy
DMS, Anna University Chennai
IISWBM Calcutta

Cut off for pondichery university for mba varies from year to
year, if you have 60+ percentile it is advisable that you fill up
the form.
Even at lower percentiles its recommended to fill forms of such
colleges as the forms doesn't cost much and mits always better
to have more options open.

Dear sir, How good a college is SDMIMD mysore to persue an MBA? What
is the fee structure N how are the placements for the same? Is a PGDM
from it of repute?
What is the selection cutoff & criteria?
Reply
Tips For CAT/MBA January 29, 2012 at 10:04 AM
Dear Anonymous,
SDMIMD Mysore is a decent college, would be ranked around
75-80 in top b-schools in India. MBA from any B- School beyond
top 30-40 colleges is not of repute, what matters in these
cases is placements.
Placement at SDMIMD Mysore is good. Average Salary at
SDMIMD Mysore is 6.0 Lakhs.
Fee Structure for 2 years at SDMIMD mysore is 8.4 Lakhs
including hostel charges.
The cutoff would be around 75+, based on your profile(work
exp. & good academics) you could get calls on lower percentiles
as well.

Tips For CAT/MBA January 31, 2012 at 9:45 AM
Dear Anonymous,
Last year cutoff was 90+, though the scenario this year is bit
different with lot of exams scrapped and more colleges
accepting CAT score. You may or may not get call on 87, by
filling the form you could ensure that you do not regret your
decision of not filling the form later.
Also if you have a good profile(acads and 2+ years of work exp)
then chances of you getting call from this college is brighter.

Placements? What is the cat cutoff? Is it a good college since its
mentioned in your list of top 50 b schools?
Reply
Tips For CAT/MBA January 31, 2012 at 10:09 AM
Dear Anonymous,
The numbers mentioned above are not ranks, that is just S.No.
Apeejay is not under top 50 colleges for sure. This page should
be used just for checking the expected cutoffs of various
colleges.
The cut off of Apeejay institute Greater noida would be 65+.
Tution fee of Apeejay institute Greater noida is Rs.91,600/- per
annum. Average salar is around 3.2 Lakhs.
If you are not desperate to join any collehe then Apeejay
institute Greater noida is not recommended at all.

decent placement? What's the fees for the program? It is having many
center's,are they equally good?

Dear Anonymous,
The cutoff varies based on your state. If you are from
Jharkhand you could get calls on 60+ percentile where for
candidates from other states cutoff should be lying between
70-75. 2 year fees would come around 3.5 Lakhs including
hostel charges. The average salary is around 4 Lakhs. BIT Mesra
college is an average college. Other center's are not equally

Tips For CAT/MBA February 7, 2012 at 7:06 PM
Hi Mayank,
There is 100% chance of you converting your calls only if you
do well in GD/PI, please do no bother about what you cannot
change now...instead focus on things which are coming up....
give more than 100%...ensure that you are doing very well
there.
Start reading as much as possible about current affairs GD/PI,
financial facts and stats, scams etc. Lot of detail;s are available
about GD tips, topics on this blog, just read them out.
Below are details from a candidate who appeared in GD/PI of
IMT-G 3 years back, thought this would be useful for IMT
Nagpur as well:
The group consisted of 10-12 participants.
The topic would be given by the panel. They asked 2 volunteers
from participants to come forward and read out the two topics
given to the group.
In case you are ready to volunteer, Listen to both the topics
carefully.
The group had to decide & agree which of the 2 topic they are
going to discuss on.
2 minutes were given to recollect your thoughts and points on
the topic.
The discussion went for around 12-15 mins
Suggested Dress Code:
Should wear formals with tie (or take tie along with you so that
you don't feel uncomfortable looking at the other participants
who are wearing one. Lot of them would be wearing
Suits/Blazers.
Boys should appear in formal attire i.e. Trouser, full sleeves
shirt, neck tie and formal shoes
Girls should appear in formal attire in two piece business suits /
sarees
In PI- they would scrutiny your profile/CV and ask questions
based on that. Know the facts about the things mentioned in
your profile.
Prepare well about the general happening around the world such
as India's GDP, indian economy, world economy, role of RBI, UN,
World bank, inflation, scams etc
Further you must read Following 2 posts which would surely
ease your nervousness:

Tips For CAT/MBA February 10, 2012 at 8:58 AM
Dear Anonymous,
It depends on your percentile, if it is around 65 and you are
desperate to join MBA this year then pondicherry university mba
and kirloskar both seems to be decent option. Also you should
try to do well in academics in these colleges and try be in top 5
students of these colleges.
Both are almost similar in rank, Kirloskar is slightly better than
DMS Pondicherry. At the same time fees at DMS pondicherry
would be far less when you compare to Kirloskar.
Hope you are going to support us by sharing this free blog to

Tips For CAT/MBA February 13, 2012 at 6:25 AM
Dear Anonymous,
Along with Profile your performance in GD/PI matters too. I
believe you have already got a call. So would suggest you to
start preparing well for GD/PI, rehearse for PI n number of times.
Take help from your friends.
I understand that you have only a 50% chance to get through,
but still you should give your best and leave the rest to fate
and god.
Personally I feel one should try their best even if there is just
10% chances of success.
You just need to be determined enough and have your
confidence when you face these challenges in coming days.
Prepare well..and do well....
Following quotes are for you:
"Believe with all of your heart that you will do what you were
made to do."
and
"Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm."
Believe in yourself and you abilities, without the fear of failure.
What matters the most is you giving 100%.

Nagpur but so has every body else. Even the guys scoring below 60 in
Cat are getting calls from IMT for Nagpur & Hyderabad campus.
What does this signify? Last year the scene was not d same. What %ile
& Profile is generally good enough to convert the call there?
What was the min. %ile req. to convert the call?
I am preparing For my GD/PI right nw & focusing on my performance only.

Tips For CAT/MBA February 12, 2012 at 10:00 AM
Dear Anonymous,
I will say you have 100% chances of getting through IMT
Nagpur only if you do well in GD/PI. Your 30 months of work exp.
is surely an added advantage. Lot of people get calls but not all
of them do well in GD/PI. Also many of them backout due to
different reasons. Furthermore many of the people with 80+
percentile would have got multiple calls they may or may not
join IMT.
Would suggest you to just focus on your preparation and trus
you abilities....go ahead with a clear mind without any
ambiguities.
All the best for your GD/PI...do well!

You have good chances of getting calls from LIBA. Though
generally cutoff required for NIT Trichy is bit higher, around 90,
still you may get call based on your profile, so keep your fingers
crossed.
Below are top 4 colleges where you can apply through MHCET:
1.JBIMS
2. Sydenham
3.KJ Somaiya
4. Welingkar
Would try get more colleges which are accepting MHCET score.

Welingkar still is a decent choice, college is well established
brand and just because it has increased the number of seats
doesn't mean that it will start selecting less qualified students.
The placement of college is good as well. WE School is better
option than IMDR Pune.

The best thing which I could suggest you is to prepare well and
try to get admission with a better CAT score. You seems to
have lot of limitations due to your low percentile. As per your
posts you are looking for:
- Colleges only in NCR
- Colleges with Good Placements
- Colleges with lesser fee

I believe you should try to get an education loan rather than
skipping a good college due to high fees.
Read the details about education loan here:

education-loan-for-mba-and.html
Also you should not just looks for colleges in NCR.

Is 64 is enough for Final selection?(They must have a threshhold
na??)

Dear Kanha,
Strangely there isn't much input availsable about ISM Dhanbad.
As per my today's analysis the cutoff would be bit higher 75+ :
(. Placement at this college is not 100% (around 70%), though
average salary is pretty good 6+ Lakhs.
You could look forward to following colleges:
SDM Institute for Management Development - Mysore
MIT School of Business - Pune
Apeejay Institute of Technology - Greater Noida
Institute for Technology and Management - Navi Mumbai
ITM Business School - Chennai

Thanks for such dedication to answer. I was wondering if you
would rarely reply on this.
I'll go through your suggestions.
Can you please have me your Email_ID so I can contact you on
individual terms(thats not to say I will not look here henceforth
but regarding other suggestion from the field). You ought to be
a good councellor:-)
Don't u think so??
Also IBA Banglore is organising GD in Ranchi and Jamshedpur. I
can't attend them right now, but as they are in hunting out 4
students, Shall I go for it at elsewhere places where they will be
organising it later on.
Is it looks feasible by your experience at my score.?
Tips For CAT/MBA February 22, 2012 at 7:53 PM
Thanks for appreciation ...wait for my reply regarding sharing my
email Id and my limitations :).
IBA is a decent college, though it currently doesn't exists in top
75 colleges list. The placement is good. IBA being a college in a
ever growing city like bangalore has lot of advantages in terms
of placement. Average Salary offered is just ok 3.68 Lakhs.

What is the Position of Pondicherry University based on Ranking & how
about the Placement...What is the cut off.

Tips For CAT/MBA February 21, 2012 at 9:32 AM
Dear Prem,
Pondicherry University has decent placement record, average
salary offered is around 4.5 Lakhs. Though it doesn't rank
among top 75 colleges.
Cut off for Pondicherry university for mba varies from year to
year, if you have 60+ percentile it is advisable that you fill up
the form.
Even at lower percentiles its recommended to fill forms of such
colleges as the forms doesn't cost much and mits always better
to have more options open.

also somewhat on your profle.
1. Marketing is good for ppl who are outgoing in nature and

2. Finance good for those who are good in interpretation...and

have good mathematical aptitude
3. IT for those who want to go ahead in their IT career at much
higher pace
4. HR for those who are good at ppl management...and
organizing things.
I think any of the above specialization go pretty well with Comp.
Science. In case you do not want to move out of computer
science stream then you should opt for mba in IT.
