As a class, students will read the introduction to Chapter 7 The World and Its People. I will divide the class into the groups 6 groups of three or four. Each group will read one page. After theyve collectively read their specified page, together theyll write 3 sentences of what their page was about. Each group will rotate and read the different page until the class has read all of chapter 7. TSW then create a foldable for Central America like the one shown on p. 211. Next, they will label the inside of the foldable with 4 categories: landforms, climates, governments and economic activities. Then, in pairs, students will read pp. 212-217 working together to take notes for the various categories (Lesson Planet)
Formative Check (Check for understanding): Check notes on the foldable . Re-teach (alternative used as needed): The students will pre-read the text together as a class. Use graphic organizers to chunk text down and only write what is needed. Closure: Have the student write down one interesting thing they learned in class. This will be an exit ticket.
Assessment/Summative Evaluation: Latin America Exam
