When answering our questionnaire the majority of the people asked were female that could show some implications of biased opinions against the Rock genre as it is a genre that is not stereotypically thought of to have female appeal. However this could convey that more and more females are breaking the stereotypical assumption of only listening to R&B, soul, and soft pop and beginning to listen and appeal to the stereotypical genre of males which is Rock conveying a masculine connotation. Because there are more female people answering the questionnaire it could mean a bias towards the Rock genre and I could also mean that all of the questions answered could be not as accurate compared to if we were questioning rock music fans. Because 70% of the people we questioned were females it means that I had to make the narrative of our music video connote a relationship struggle, this will make sure that both genders will want to watch the music video. How old are you?
All the people answering this questionnaire were from 15 to 19 which means that there will be a bias, in the answers, however this is good because our target audience is that age group, Male, 3 Female, 7 10 to 14, 0 15 to 19, 10 20 +, 0
however it would have been helpful to of had an older age group answer the questions as well so we could of got a variety of answer. Because all the people we were asking are from age 15-19 it means that they have insight into modern music, it also means that all the answers they have given can be used to add to our music video. Because our target audience is 15 to above the music video has to be appropriate for 15+. This had an impact on the development of our narrative because it meant that the music video had to be appropriate for the age of our audience. The main reason that the music video has a relationship struggle is because of the age group we are going for, they will have been in or witnessed a relationship, this means that they can empathise; this will make the music video more entertaining. A boy and girl in my music video connotes a relationship this creates a lot of sexual tension which is what will make the music video highly appealing to both sexes and the age group for 15+
What genre of music do you listen to?
The chart shows that most people that we questioned listen to hip hop and rnb and only 4 people that we questioned listen to rock, which means that they might not have as much insight into the rock genre, however it also means that we could get ideas form other genres and add it into our digipak. This would allow me to develop the rock genre and it would also mean that the music digipak and video will be unconventional so it can appeal to a larger audience. Stereotypically rock music videos include the band, and also have very dark albums covers and digipaks. And to have an opinion of people that dont listen to rock music could mean that if we were to create an album cover without the stereotypical rock genre conventions Pop, 7 Rock, 4 Techno, 3 Soul, 4 Classical, 1 Indie, 2 R'n'B, 9 Soft Rock, 4 Dubstep, 4 Hip Hop, 9 Jazz, 1
such as the band on the front cover and eerie fonts, would mean that we would be attracting a larger audience of people with different tastes to be interested by the digipak. Because not a lot of people listened to rock it shows and the demand for rock music has fallen in the modern day charts and also how people are listening to hip hop and rnb music because of the influence of the media. This means that the data collected is mostly from people that may not be interested in rock music.
What colour schemes do you expect to find in a soft rock/alternate digipak? People stereotypically expect to see dark colours on a rock music digipak this is because when people think of rock music they expect to hear very depressing and low beat music, whereas in reality rock music can vary. However because the people we questioned are all from ages 15 to 19 it shows how they may not be inclined to know about rock music because in modern day music it is not as popular as it once was. The colour black was voted for the most this is because stereotypically the colour black is used for death and sadness, and any bad mood, this is why it was voted for, for the rock music genre, because people see rock music as being depressing and about breakups or drugs. The colour red was also voted for a lot this colour also symbolises death however it depends which tone of red, is it is a dark tone it can be used to show violence and horror and some light reds can be used for love etc. So it shows how a change in the tone of a colour can have a very diverse effect on the audience viewing the product. How many tracks do you expect to see in a digipak? Red, 5 Blue, 5 Black, 7 Yellow, 1 White, 2 Purple, 1
1 to 4, 2 5 to 8, 2 9 to 12, 6 13 +, 0 Yes, 9 No, 3 People expect to see 9-12 tracks in a digipak this is because they want good value for money when they purchase an album, if any one was to put less than 8 songs into an album customers would probably not buy the album and would buy the singles they liked instead. Conventionally rock albums have 8 plus songs in albums which means when designing the digipak, I should create enough space for all of the songs. The amount of songs in an album has a massive effect on the sales, if there are only 2 good songs in albums and if the album only has two songs then people are only likely to buy the singles. I will use this, and when creating the digipak of the music video and can introduce to more songs into the creation, placing more songs onto the digipak will create a bigger audience, more songs on the album makes it more appealing to buy. Also by adding more songs into the album it will stop people from buying singles and will influence them to buy the album.
Do you expect to see the artist on the front cover of the magazine? People expect to see the band on the front of the magazine because; rock bands stereotypically promote their products with their faces. This is effective because fans like to see the artist on the front of magazines because it can show what emotion the band is feeling and can convey a lot feeling towards the audience. Having the band on the front cover allows the audience to identify their favourite artists, they will also be able to relate with the clothing they are wearing and the style of hair they have, giving the audience the band on the front cover of the magazine is important because conventionally rock bands are the face of their image, which is good because the audience like to see the personality in bands, this will make more purchases of the magazine.
High Angle, 0 Low Angle, 4 Close Up, 4 Mid Shot, 3 Long Shot, 0 Yes, 8 No, 2 I will use this when designing the magazine advert, I may put the band on the front cover so it is appealing to a big audience and it doesnt strictly show one genre of music. What camera shots do you expect to see on the front cover of the magazine? Close up shots were voted for the most to see on the front cover of a magazine this is because people expect to see a rock band for who they are. Stereotypically rock bands are seen as being very rough and out of hand that why a close up shot would be useful because its very in your face and the audience would like that because the band are not hiding behind any walls, that is why I believe close up shots were voted for the most. Low angle shots was also voted for the same amount this is because low angle shot would make the band seem very powerful of the front of the magazine.
Do you expect to see the band on the front cover of the digipack? People expect to see the band on the front of the album, this is because rock bands tend to advertise their products with their faces and the
audience tend to like that because it feels like they are getting to know the band. The audience like to be able to empathise with the audience and be able to relate, this is why 80% of people in the questionnaire voted yes for having the band on the digipak. When more people can relate to the digipak and also when they can see the personal relationship of the band it shows friendship and makes more people want to purchase the digipak because the audience will be able to relate to it.
