Pursuing a Nursing Career
100s of years ago there was a discovery of medical assistants that performed with medicine
and helping those who were sick or got hurt at war. These medical assistants became to be
known as Nurses. During the time a majority of these nurses were women. To this day a minority
of nurses are mostly women. Now I want to major in Nursing and help sick people. But there is
some positives and negatives of becoming an RN. In my research paper I am going to discuss the
career of nursing, responsibilities, qualifications, working hours, salary. The difficulties,
alternate career and last the challenges/negatives in pursuing the career.
What is nursing? Nursing is the profession of practice in helping sick and ill people. The
nursing career is can be described in many ways. Most people think of a person in scrubs when
they hear a nurse. There is so many types of nurses such as a research nurse, pediatric nurse, or
RN. These are on three types of nurses there are but there is plenty more than those are just some
simple examples. Working in a hospital or in clinics is the environment a nurse works in. As a
RN you do the patients medical history, take blood pressure, weight, and height then you send
them to a room so a PA or Doctor to see them. A PA is a nurse practitioner. With being a nurse
expect to see the unexpected. What I mean by Expect to see the unexpected is you may get
someone whose shoot, stabbed, or seriously injured. According to the article Optimal Healing
Environment of Nursing, the nursing career involves the nurse helping to heal patients
psychologically. Being a in the profession of nurse it is to help keep patients calm if they are a
traumatized patients. Being a nurse is a very challenging career because you really need to know
what youre doing and to be highly intelligent.
The most important feature of a nursing career is admitting patients into the hospital. When
admitting patients into the hospital you need to find out if they have Medicare or if they dont.

When d admitting people into a hospital you are going to be interacting with a lot of different
patients. Another feature of being a nurse in giving shots for things like meningitis, or a flu shot.
The feature you see a lot as nurse is injuries to people which is an everyday thing as a nurse you
see a lot of blood or twisted ankles. So as a nurse you have to be prepare for the bad and
unexpected every day at their job. The people in the nursing field help doctors with anything
they need. Also doctors will give nurses orders to let them take care of an individual patient
according to the article Admitting hospital patients: a qualitative study of an everyday.
The minimum qualification as a nurse is an associates as nurse which you can get at a fast pace
nursing school. For example Southwest university or Anamarc. After get your License as a RN at
a four year university is better because with a bachelors for health science helps you get a job in
a hospital that pays good money. Also some other minimum requirements is something like a
High school diploma or some type nursing certification that help a nursing candidate. An
education as RN. Some of the skills needed for this job are communication skills. The reason that
this job require communication skills is because they work in team environment. Also attending
four year university to become an RN is that you more likely get job right after college. After
going to school and getting your bachelors in health science you go out and start life. And the
annual wage being an RN salary starts at 67,930 up to 94,720 depending on how long you go to
school the longer you go to school the more money you make. You work around 40 to 60 hours a
week and make 32.66 an hour. And now days hospitals are looking for RNs with at least a
bachelors in health science. But depending on what kind of Nurse someone becomes it salary is
different.
Becoming a RN is not easy at all because if you have to very good grades and study a lot
while going to school to become an RN. Depending on your graduating GPA will depend on

whether you get a job in the position you want to work in. The top paying areas for an RN is in
coast states such as California, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. California salary wages are starting at
120,000 and more. California is looking for more skilled working registered nurses. But the
reason the salary starts so high is because of the living cost in California and how large of a state
it is. The jobs to become an RN have increased up to 19%.If a nurse cannot find a job maybe it is
because of the city they live in. Nurses really dont have to find an alternate career because there
is so many jobs to be nurse hospitals always need nurses. The alternate career you could do is to
go to the military and become a nurse, because if you join the army as a nurse you will for sure
have a job.
The challenges of becoming a nurse is that it is a competition with others who are trying to
become an RN. The education part of becoming a nurse is to attend a 4 year university anywhere
you can. The average time it takes a person to get their bachelors is around 5 to 6 years. The
time spent in school depends on that person who is going to become a nurse. The longer you go
to school the more money you make and the better the job you can get. Your grades will
determine whether you get into nursing school or not because getting into nurses is all on your
grades and how well you did in those classes. With a bachelors in nursing you can work in a
hospital or in an clinic and help doctors with medical history paper work. If you get your masters
in health science you can become an clinical manger or even a supervisor at an hospital The
negative of becoming a nurse are The health Hazard of working in healthcare are the hours you
work a week which are 36 hours and consist of 12 hours shifts a day, And sometimes even 40
which consist of 10 hours shifts. The reason this is a negative because you stand up the whole
time helping patient and talking to them. Your body becomes drained after that 12 hour shift of

just standing and moving around a lot according to stem cell research. The skills you need to
have as an RN are the practices that you learned in school.
The reason the nursing is so appealing to me is because I love the medical field and helping
other that are sick. Also the most appealing part of becoming a nurse are the job opportunity rate.
There is always a job for a nurse. I feel that I have skills for this job especially after in finish
school. Some of the skills I have for this job are my communication skills. My responsibility for
this job will be very well because I will put a task for myself and that task is to help patients with
anything they need and to make sure they are healthy. Also the pay salary is very appealing to
me. Because being a nurse I very well paid job. My skills to become a nurse are going to be very
well. Right now my skills are pretty good because I love talking and communicating and helping
people.
In this paper I have discussed the career of nursing, Qualifications, responsibilities, challenges,
and negatives and why this job is very appealing to me than other jobs. As you can tell this paper
lets you know things you may not know about nursing you may not have known and I cant wait
to become an RN and work in a hospital or clinic.
