LESSON PLAN
GAS EXPANSION

Educational stage : Senior High School
Subject : Physics
Class : XI
Program : Natural Science
Time : 1x25 minutes

A. Main Competency
Understanding, applying, and explaining factual knowledge, conceptual knowledge,
procedural knowledge, and metacognitive knowledge in science, technology, art, culture,
and humanities with an insight of humanity, nationality, politics, and civilization thats
causing a phenomenon and incident, and applying procedural knowledge on specific
aspect according to their talent and interest to solve problem.

B. Basic Competence
Analyze heat influence and heat moving in the daily life

C. Indicator
1. Understand the concepts of gas expansion
2. Analyze the influence of temperature to the volume of gas
3. Analyze the influence of temperature to the pressure of gas
4. Analyze the influence of pressure to the volume of gas
5. Apply the gas expansion concepts to the daily life

D. Learning Outcomes
1. Students can understand the concepts of gas expansion
2. Students can analyze the influence of temperature to the volume of gas
3. Students can analyze the influence of temperature to the pressure of gas
4. Students can analyze the influence of pressure to the volume of gas
5. Students can apply the gas expansion concepts to the daily life

E. Material
In the solid and liquid expansion, there are two variables that influence the
expansion, that is volume and temperature. But in the gas expansion there are three
variables that influence the expansion, that is volume, temperature and pressure.
When we want to know the influence of temperature to the volume of the gas, we
have to make the pressure is constant. And the equation is:

F. Learning Model
Problem Based Learning

G. Learning Media and Tools
Laptop, LCD, phET-java Program, balloons, safety match (fire)

H. Learning Activity
Activities Time
Openning
Greeting
Praying together
Checking students presence

Phase I :
Orientating Student to Problem
Motivating student with simple demonstration that related to gas
expantion (using a ballon that blowed gradually, then blow again
until it explode)
Giving question for the student, such as:
why the ballon become bigger when Wafi blows it? Why the ballon
explodes?
Playing video about the experiment of gas expansion and air balloon
1. why the balloon become bigger? Is it different with the balloon that
blowed by Wafi?
2. why the air balloon can move up/fly? Whats the different with the
first demonstration?
Giving learning outcome of the lesson
Phase II :
Organizing Student to Study
Dividing student become a few teamwork (each teamwork consist of 3-
4 student) to solve the problem
Giving worksheet to each teamwork
Phase III :
Training a Group Investigation dan Individual
Training student to investigation
Student discussion about the problem
Training student to discuss
10
Phase IV :
Developing and Providing the Working Result
Asking once of teamwork to present their discussion result
Once a group of student present their discussion result (the other
student can give addition and suggestion)
Phase V :
Analizing and Evaluating Problem Solving
Reflecting together with student
Giving the reinforcement
Giving exersise:
Gas place V volume of space that the pressure is constant and the
temperature is T
o
C. If the volume become 2V when its heated, whats the
change of temperature?
Making a conclusion about this course
5
Closing
Giving award for the best group of this course
Giving student homework
Greeting
