Motivation
(Opening/
Introduction/
Engagement)
Open with the Bible verse and motions again today.
Move chairs/desks/tables into a circle.
Introduce topic: Today we will be talking about how Christians view disabled people

Development
First talk about why our verse was chosen to represent this unit. Have students talk about it in the group. If

all topics are covered then move on (Talk about how we are all one in Christ. Doesnt matter what we look
like, what gender we are, what abilities or disabilities we have. If we know Jesus and belong to him then
we are all his children)
Next talk about Genesis 1:26 (have student read the verse). Why would we bring up this verse in this unit?
Discuss (We are all created in the image of Jesus. Even those who look different were created like Jesus.
God didnt make any mistakes. Our value is based on who we are, not what we can or cannot do)
Have a volunteer or two to read 1 Corinthians 12:12-27. Discuss. (Jesus body is the church, but it isnt
made up of only one part or of the same kinds of parts. The church is made up of many different parts.
Without these different parts the body/church wouldnt work. It is important to have different abilities in
the church.)
Talk about Mark 9:14-29, have a student or two read the verse. Discuss how this boy had what we could
call epilepsy and how that ties into our unit. Discuss other times Jesus healed someone with a disability.
(Paralyzed, Blind, Dumb(Mute), Crippled, Leprosy) Talk about how sometimes Jesus doesnt heal people,
but he can use their disabilities for good. Discuss how they can be used for good.
Depending on time left talk about what they have learned and how they can relate that to their every day
lives etc.

Closure
Go over the Bible verse one more time.
Your reflection on the lesson including ideas for improvement for next time:
