Reiki Master/Teacher Training Manual

Reiki Level III - Introduction

For your Reference: A Quick Reference Reiki Glossary is available which explains Reiki
Terms, Practices an !oncepts"
Welcome to the third degree! The Reiki Third Degree completes the training in Reiki. It is not an end but a
new beginning. The symbol of third degree Reiki is the Dai Ko Mio which means the great shining light.
The goal of le!el three Reiki is to learn to li!e always in the light. In Traditional "sui #hiki Ryoho$ Reiki
%e!el III is the teaching degree where you learn the fourth "sui #ymbol and where all the information is
gi!en on how to pass Reiki on to others.
Teacher curriculum for this manual includes the traditional "sui symbols$ attunements and the knowledge to
pass them. &or those wishing to study the "sui'Tibetan #ymbols and system !isit the "sui'Tibetan (age.
The "sui'Tibetan Reiki)s di!ide the third degree into two sections* Reiki IIIa$ and Reiki IIIb. Reiki IIIa$ from
what I ha!e been taught and obser!ed are !arious non+traditional add+on and new age techni, ues.
#ome of these you will find in the %e!el IIIa Reiki #ection included with this manual. -enerally at the
%e!el IIIa$ you would be taught these add+on techni, ues which include meditation techni, ues$ a .ealing
/ttunement$ the "sui Master #ymbol$ the .ui 0in$ the 1iolet 2reath$ (sychic #urgery$ Reiki 3rystal
-rids a Meet your Reiki -uide Meditation$ and then gi!en the Master /ttunement. 0ou are not taught the
attunement process or how to do it. /t this point you are told you ha!e a (ersonal Mastery le!el$ or a
Master (ractitioner le!el. The Master /ttunement is done but the attunement process is not taught
and'or is withheld. The reality is that these Master (ractitioners are Reiki Masters who ha!e not been
taught the /ttunement (rocess. /t le!el IIIb they are taught two or three Tibetan symbols$ and then
recei!e the same attunement again and then are taught how to do the attunements.
It is my personal belief that Master training in the West is for e!eryone. 4ot for the select few who
,ualify$ or can afford a 56 thousand dollar fee$ but for e!eryone. The world needs a great deal of
healing and the spread of Reiki will help that. I ha!e found that some masters are !ery selecti!e in whom
they train as masters. &or some$ the Master Degree is gi!en only to those people who are willing and
able to completely dedicate their li!es to Reiki. While that is wonderful for those who are able to do that$
it can also bring out the competiti!e nature in people who make their li!ing from Reiki and ha!e to
compete with other masters for students. My belief is that all are eligible for this wondrous gift.
Many people take the Master le!el to complete their Reiki training. There is in reality nothing to
complete and nothing to attain. It is a new beginning aand in many ways a return to simplicity that we
had when we learned Reiki I and had no symbols and 7ust the energy. It is the greatest gift to be able to
share Reiki with others and it is a 7oyful thing to do and share in attunements.
PART I -
Learning and Using The Reiki III Symbols
The Reiki Master'Teacher 8%e!el III9 consists of learning the master symbol$ recei!ing the attunement$
and learning the attunement process. &or those wishing to learn the Tibetan symbols &ire #erpent$
Dumo$ and Raku$ !isit the "sui'Tibetan %e!el IIIb #ection of this manual.
/ brief statement regarding symbols needs to be addressed. #ymbols are e:actly that$ a symbol. They
are not the thing they represent. These symbols$ like the le!el II symbols are representations of a
specific manifestation or property of the Reiki energy. They are not the energy themsel!es. /s people
progress spiritually$ they find increasing le!els of simplicity. It is not uncommon for people to mo!e past the
need to use the symbols and simply use the source energy directly.
#ymbols are a stimulus and responce tool. The act of seeing them$ drawing them or saying the name of
them is a stimulus that cause the responce of connecting to the energy in an attuned person. The symbols
also teach us that there are ways that we can focus on different aspect of the energy and use them.
Different arts de!eloped from Reiki such as #eichim or Karuna are e:amples of using different symbols as a
way to focus on other aspects of the energy. In "sui)s original system called Reiki Ryoho$ the symbols were
taught to those that had difficulty connecting to the energy or little e:perience in energy work. They were a
tool to be used and let go when the connection to the energy was strong and mastered. They were like
training wheels to aid us until we grow and no longer need them. In Reiki Ryoho in ;apan you would ha!e
met weekly with your group and master and practiced healing. Then you would ha!e done hatsurei ho and
recei!ed Rei7u or an empowerment. /fter a year or more you might ha!e been in!ited to learn the second
teachings. If you were taught the symbols at all$ you would ha!e been e:pected to ha!e mo!ed past them
before mo!ing to the second teaching.
In "sui #hiki Ryoho of the .ayashi+Talaka lineage the symbols were of
greater importance. The system was set up to teach others faster than the
lengthy training in Reiki Ryoho. /s a result the emphesis has to be greater on
symbols because people had to be able to connect to the energy. This
emphesis was gi!en and instilled in Mrs. Takata)s masters that she trained.
This was codified into the secret and sacred practices that the /lliance
teaches and some other masters hold.
In ;apan the symbols are common to many traditions and they are not secret.
Reiki is sacred$ the symbols are kan7i$ or ;apanese words. They are found on
temple walls$ in books$ in 2uddhist practices$ and all sort of other places in
plain !iew in ;apan. Indeed$ anyone with a ;apanese dictionary could look
them up. The secreti!e belief$ presumably$ is that if the symbols are known
they will lose their power or that others will profane them or try to use them for
uses other than reiki$ or to harm. The symbols ha!e no power of their own.
They are a connection to the source$ not the source itself. The symbols
cannot be profaned or used for harm$ they represent the Reiki source$ and
Reiki cannot be used for harm. The symbols are not sacred. They ha!e no
inherant power other than as a focus or a medium and a tool. When the
connection to the energy is mastered$ we mo!e past them and work with the
pure energy itself.
The Usui Master Symbol
The "sui Master #ymbol has se!eral meanings. The most common is The
-reat #hining %ight. /nother translation might be -reat 2eing of the
"ni!erse #hine on Me. In <en practice$ I ha!e seen it stated as Treasure
.ouse of the great beaming %ight$ and is symbolic of one)s 2uddha 4ature
and of states of enlightenment.
ai !o Mio
"
The spiritual body is thought to effect the physical body. There are many schools of thought$ both =astern
and Western that belie!e this. .ealing at this le!el is thought to effect the spiritual body and can lead to
wondrous changes and at times$ Miracles. The practice of ;ohrei uses channeling the -reat %ight of -od
into people and the world for healing. The founder of ;ohrei$ Mokichi >kada$ writes in his book Health and
the New Civilization$ that all disease comes from clouds forming on the spiritual body$ and by channeling
;ohrei onto people in need of healing it remo!es the clouds and cleanses their spiritual body. The ;ohrei
&ellowship e:ists worldwide and has done e:tensi!e medical research on the efficacy of ;ohrei. 81isit them
at http*''www.7ohrei.com' 9
The Dai Ko Mio is a return to simplicity. The three other symbols together in one. %e!el one was the
simplicity of Reiki$ trusting in the source and simply doing it. %e!el II is learning the ways the source
manifests and e:pands our conception of what the source can do. %e!el III$ with the Dai Ko Mio brings us
back to the simplicity and the oneness. %ike all Reiki #ymbols$ the Dai Ko Mio should be memori?ed if at all
possible$ although e!en that is not necessary$ 7ust preferable. Memori?ing is useful$ because when doing
healings or attunements$ it helps to be able to draw them ,uickly and correctly. The DKM$ looks surprisingly
similar to the top of the White light symbol 87ohrei9 that is used by the ;ohrei Mo!ement worldwide. The link
becomes e!en more interesting because "sui almost certainly would ha!e known and or studied with
>nisaburo Deiguchi who taught Mokichi >kada who founded ;ohrei. It was said that Morihei Tanaka who
founded Dei Rei ;utsu also had taught "sui and >kada. If nothing else there is some connection in!ol!ed
with these practices that all de!eloped and e!ol!ed around the same time in ;apan.
The DKM is said to represent the /mida #an?on$ a triune of lo!e light and harmony. These three together
represented the ultimate source in the same way that the &ather$ #on and .oly -host do. The DKM is the
-reath #hining light. This was the source. >nce you know the Dai Ko Mio$ you can use it for any Reiki
use$ e!en in place of the other symbols. This is both because as a triune symbol it contains the others$ and
because it is the first step in mo!ing from symbol reliance to 7ust using the energy. "se it e!erywhere and
anytime you might want to use the others. "se the name of it as a mantra to meditate concentrating on the
"ltimate source of all$ the great shining light and let it illumine your mind.
PART II - Ritual as a Process
In Traditional Reiki training$ there are four attunements for Reiki I$ each different. There is an additional
attunement for Reiki II and III. In nontraditional methods$ attunement methods !ary greatly. #ome ha!e a
combined le!el I attunement$ some use a combined le!el I and II attunements$ and others use the same
process for all three degrees. /ny attunement is a Ritual. Rituals generally follow a pattern whether you are
talking about a 3atholic Mass or .igh Magick or Reiki /ttunements. There are usually three parts to a ritual$
the 2eginning$ the Ritual action ' In!ocation$ and the =nd.
The first part is the beginning. The 2eginning is a call to the sacred. It differentiates that what is to follow is
going to be different. In a 3atholic Mass the 2eginning is when the priest processes in and Makes the sign
of the cross. .e says$ %et us (ray and follows with prayers. This separates what is to follow from daily life.
It is special. In Reiki$ the beginning is when we start the attunement. It can be as simple as drawing the
symbols in the air$ the preparation of the student by ha!ing them meditate$ saying a prayer or statement of
intent or any other practice. The beginning in any Reiki /ttunement is the Intent.
The ne:t phase is the Ritual action ' In!ocation. The ritual is the structure of what we are doing. #aying
prayers$ doing readings and other practices are an e:ample of ritual. They are steps to be followed to bring
about the desired action. /n in!ocation calls forth the power we wish to manifest. In a catholic mass$ we call
forth the power of -od to be in our midst. 2y using the ritual of saying psalms and prayers and readings$ we
bring forth more clearly the manifestation of -od in our li!es. 2y using the ritual of consecrating bread and
wine the -od is brought forth in presence in body and wine. Wiccan practitioners and practitioners of Magick
8such as .ermetic Magick9 will recogni?e how their own practices fit into this pattern. In a Reiki /ttunement$
we use the structure of the ritual actions along with the symbols to in!oke the reiki energy and bring for the
purpose of connecting the student with the reiki energy. The dirty little secret of reiki is that any attunement
will work. There are crown to crown !ariants$ short forms$ long forms$ traditional forms$ singular master
attunements 8my personal fa!orite9 and many many others. /ll are reiki and all work.
The %ast part of a Ritual is the =nd. The end is the finish to the process and lets all know that it is finished
and complete. In a mass the priest says$ the mass is ended go in peace$ and the people reply Thanks be
to -od. In a Reiki attunement$ the process can be as simple as gi!ing an affirmation to the person$ telling
them It is done or It is complete$ to telling them This attunement is done$ you are a Reiki Master now
and fore!er. -enerally the end has little or no formal ritual attached to it$ since the formal ritual is o!er.
The reason that I ha!e discussed Rituals here is to demonstrate that the Ritual is a process. 0ou can modify
them as are warranted to suit your needs. The "sui attunements ha!e been modified by many people who
ha!e added symbols$ taken away parts$ added parts and all sorts of other things. Make the ritual work for
you and your students. .a!ing said all that the only ca!eat is do not make what e!er you do a distraction. I
ha!e seen some people into the bells and whistles attunement e:perience. They burn incense$ ha!e music$
special lighting$ candles$ perform ceremonies to the goddess$ catholic rituals$ kaballah@@ /ll of that is nice$
and may pro!ide the recipient with grand ceremony$ but remember they are not necessary. My preference is
#IM(%I3IT0. I do not play music. I do not burn incense. In my opinion$ the more simple the better$ anything
else detracts from the e:perience of the attunement and the connection to the Reiki =nergy. /s in all things$
you decide how you wish to do them.9
Intent
The only real important part of the attunement is the intent. It can be done by intent and the energy alone. If
your intent is clear$ there is nothing that you can do wrong in the attunement. If you make a mistake do not
fret! =ither re+do the section or action$ or trust that the reiki will correct it and intend it be so. I ha!e seen
attunements as simple as holding the person)s hand and sending the energy in up the arms to the chakras
to one)s as comple: as in!ol!ing incense$ candles and ceremonial dance type actions. It is the actual doing
of the attunement that is sacred$ not necessarily the process. The process seems to matter little if the intent
is clear and focused.
istant Attunements
Distant /ttunements are also possible and appropriate and 7ust a perfect as their hands+on counterparts. It
is done by using the distant symbol and !isuali?ation and intent. The Master'Teacher !isuali?es the symbols
entering the 3rown 3hakra of the recipient and mo!e through the aura. .e or she can !isuali?e each of the
attunement steps$ and see and feel them taking place. 0ou can use a picture of the person or a teddy bear
or other representation to assist when doing them. More information on Distant /ttunements can be read
about in my article$ Distant /ttunements
PART III - Sam#le Attunement Method
$
There are many attunement methods. I personally ha!e in my possession o!er a do?en "sui attunements$
at least three traditional attunements 8all different9$ "sui'Tibetan attunements$ Tibetan'"sui attunements$
#hort forms$ and others.
What follows is an attunement set that I de!eloped. It would most appropriately be classified 4on+
Traditional "sui Reiki and uses the four "sui #ymbols. It uses a standard form for all three le!els. This is
offered here for your re!iew. /s in all things$ use the attunement that resonates best with you. If you are
interested in different attunements$ or wish to learn other attunements$ my book The Reiki Attunement
Guide is a!ailable at &atbrain.com. "se the link below to the /ngelReiki 2ookstore at &atbrain.com.
%on-Traditional Usui Attunement
This is an attunement process that I de!eloped. It is in the "sui Tradition. This attunement is used for all
three le!els with the modifications for the second and third le!el in patenthesis. The first le!el attunement is
repeated A times with a minimum of an hour between attunements. /ttunements may be repeated as often
as the person likes. They are always pleasant to recei!e. Reiki #hares and other gatherings of
practitioners are a good place for the beginning reiki teacher to practice.
2eginning
2egin by saying a prayer of intent$ either silent or out loud. /sk for the help of the Reiki #ource to do a
perfect attunement for this person. If you ha!e spirit guides$ reiki guides$ /ngels$ /scended Masters$ etc.$
you can ask them to assist that this be a perfect attunement for this persons highest good. 8/ngels$ guides
and other helpers are not necessary for the attunement to work.9
Draw the (ower #ymbol on your palms$ 3rown and .eart 3hakras$ intending them to open to the Reiki
#ource and %ight. 3leanse the room by drawing the four "sui Reiki symbols in the air in front of you. This
not only can clease the room but sets the tone for the beginning as a sacred e!ent.
(art >ne
>n the back$ draw the 3ho Ku Rei from slightly abo!e the top of the head and down the back of the student$
ending at the base of the spine. (lace both hands on top of the head to get an energetic rapport with the
student.
2reathe in !isuali?e the Dai Ko Mio. =:hale the 2reath into the 3rown 3hakra blowing the Dai Ko Mio in
gold into the 3rown 3hakra$ and mo!e it through the middle of the student)s head$ and into the base of the
brain. 0ou can guide it with your hand.
/bo!e the head$ draw the "sui Master #ymbol and repeat Dai Ko Mio three times. /gain !isuali?e the
symbol mo!ing into the into the 3rown 3hakra$ through the head and into the base of the brain$ guiding it
with your hand. Do the same with the #ei .ei Ki$ the .on #ha <e #ho 4en$ and the 3ho Ku Rei.
#ignal the student to raise their hands held in prayer position to the top of their head. Draw the (ower
#ymbol in the air o!er the hands. Then picture the #ymbol mo!ing into the hands$ down into the 3rown
3hakra$ through the head$ and into in the base of the brain saying the name of the power symbol three
times and guiding the #ymbol with your hand. 8Repeat this with the #ei .ei Ki and .on #ha <e #ho 4en for
le!el II$ and with the Dai Ko Mio for le!el III.9
(art Two
Mo!e to the front and place the students prayer+held hands in front of the heart. Draw the (ower #ymbol in
the air in front of the middle of forehead 8brow or third eye chakra9. Then picture the #ymbol mo!ing into the
brow chakra. -uide it in with the hand if you want. #ay the name of the power symbol three times. 8&or
%e!el II do the same with the Mental'=motional #ymbol and the Distant #ymbol. &or the Master %e!el$ use
all four symbols$ remembering to repeat the name of each symbol three times9.
Draw the (ower #ymbol in the air in front of the heart chakra. Then picture the #ymbol mo!ing into the heart
chakra. #ay the name of the power symbol three times. 8&or %e!el II do the same with the Mental'=motional
#ymbol and the Distant #ymbol. &or the Master %e!el$ use all four symbols9.
4e:t open the student)s hands like the co!er of a book so they are ne:t to each other palms up facing the
ceiling. (lace you left hand under their hands and with your right hand draw out the (ower #ymbol on the
hands on the (alm. #ay the name of the power symbol three times. Then lightly slap the hands three times.
8>nly the (ower symbol is placed in the hands in le!el I$ the Distant symbol and mental 'emotional symbol
are placed in the hands in le!el II$ and all four of the symbols are placed in the palms in the Master le!el.9
2ring the student)s hands together in prayer position$ and mo!e them back in front of the student)s .eart.
2low o!er the hands$ down to the #olar (le:us$ then up to the Third =ye and 3rown$ and back o!er the
hands.
(art Three
Mo!e behind the student. (lace your hands on the student)s head. "se a positi!e affirmation and repeat it to
yourself three times$ Intend it to be accepted by the student. 8#ome e:amples might be* 0ou are a perfectly
attuned$ you are a competent Reiki .ealer$ or you are filled with Di!ine %o!e and Wisdom$ or any other
affirmation that is significant to you or the student. 0ou can say them out loud if you prefer.
>pen your hands and look down through the 3rown 3hakra$ !isuali?ing through to the root chakra. Intend
that the beautiful great shining light of the Reiki #ource send a ball of light into the heart and fill all the
chakras.
Mo!e your hands to the student)s neck$ and then place the right hand on top of the head and the left at the
base of the skull. 1isuali?e a door and then draw the power symbol on it and see the door being closed. #ay
to yourself$ I seal this /ttunement with Di!ine %o!e and Wisdom. Intend that the (rocess is sealed and
complete and the student is now fore!er connected directly to the Reiki #ource. #ay$ you fore!er
connected to the Reiki source.
(lace your hands on the student)s shoulders briefly e:periencing the moment with them. #ay$ We ha!e
both been blessed by this attunement.
(art &our
Mo!e back to the front of the student. .old your palms toward them. 1isuali?e a white mist surrounding you.
2reath in and be filled with this white light mist of reiki. 2low the mist at the student allowing the final
energy of the attunement to bless the student.
#ay$ the attunement is complete. /fterwards$ wash the hands to ensure that the energetic connection with
the student is broken.
PART I& - Per'orming istant Attunements
>ccasionally$ there are times when we as Reiki Masters would like to share Reiki with someone 8a friend$
family member$ lo!ed one9 and the limits of distance pre!ent us from being there with them. Distant
/ttunements are one way to bridge this gap and to allow us to be able to share this great gift with others.
Distant /ttunements are easy to perform if you are familiar with a hands+on attunement procedure. There
is no special procedure to perform$ 7ust some slight modifications to the regular attunement set you are
familiar and comfortable with. The modifications will be described below.
(
#ome people ha!e difficulty with the concept of distant attunements$ and ha!e some issues with the
process. These are discussed in my article on this website on Distant /ttunements.
istant Attunement Procedures
5. "se your regular attunement set that you are familiar and comfortable with.
B. This practice is best done by either arranging a set time with the person for them to recei!e$ or to be on
the telephone or on+line with them.
C. .a!e them meditate$ pray or other acti!ity to clear the mind and prepare for about B6 minutes prior to the
start time of the attunement.
A. 0ou must both state clearly that the intent for the attunement to be done.
D. 2egin the attunement as usual. #tate clearly that you intend to attune the person. Draw the .on #ha <e
#ho 4en in the air and state that you intend this to be fully empower the person.
E. #ome people use a teddy bear$ photo or other pro:y to gain an energetic rapport with the person to be
attuned. This can be helpful. 0ou can also 7ust feel the sense of them and do it. These are nice ways to
feel the connection$ but simply intend and will the attunement to be done$ and perform it. Trust the di!ine
source and the reiki attunement will be done.
F. (erform the attunement. 1isuali?e doing it. #ee the symbols and draw them as usual.
&ollowing these easy steps will fully allow someone !ia diatance to be attuned to reiki.
PART & - Attunement Suggestions
.ere are some notes about attunements in no particular order. These are practices that you can do during
attunements that you may be led to do$ or issues regarding the process.
5. /ll attunements are uni,ue. They are indi!idual. #ometimes you will ha!e feelings to do something or
another that might not be in the script. Trust the Reiki and do them.
B. 0ou can attune all F chakras including the feet when doing attunements$ not 7ust the top four and the
hands. The effect can be a bit much for people so use your 7udgment.
C. 0ou can place the symbols'energy directly in to the persons aura ' etheric field as well as placing them in
the chakras. 1isuali?e the symbols in the energy field and bring the Reiki energy in the field.
A. If you feel blockages or the hands not heating up$ place the person)s finger tips against your palm and
send the energy up to the heart$ or blow up from palm to heart to open the channel.
D. "se the Raku after attunements to disconnect from the other person$ or make sure to mentally
disconnect from the other person by intent.
E. Remember that Intent is the key for a perfect attunement. 0ou are 7ust a channel$ the source does the
attunements$ so you cannot mess up! &orgetting a step or action is not going to matter. The reiki source will
make sure that it is right and trust that it will.
F. When you finish gi!ing an attunement$ you will feel e:hilarated. 0ou should not feel drained. Make sure
you separate yourself from all e:pectations. Do the attunement with the intent that the person be perfectly
attuned to Reiki. %et the Reiki do the work. Do not strain$ or try to put your own energy into the process. Do
not use your energy$ let the Reiki do the work.
G. The easiest way to perform the attunement is for the student to sit on a chair with their feet on the floor.
.a!e the students hold their hands with palms together at chest height 8namaste or gasso position9$ and tell
and show them where you will touch and what you will do with their hands.
H. 0ou can attune the chakras in the feet. 2end or kneel and draw the symbols on both the feet at the same
time. This can help ground the person.
56. 0ou can do the /ttunements without symbols. >nly attempt this if you ha!e sufficient e:perience with
the energy and with doing attunements. The empowerment that "sui used was called Rei7u and was a
symbol+less attunement. The le!el one attunement of the /lliance is done without symbols.
Usui Tibetan Reiki Manual
Introduction
Welcome to the "sui'Tibetan Material. This #ection consists of the %e!el IIIa Manual and the "sui Tibetan
Reiki Manual. In most "sui Tibetan Reiki the material for %e!el I and %e!el II are consistent with the
Traditional "sui #hiki Ryoho as taught in the Western .ayashi + Takata style. It is at %e!el IIIa and %e!el
IIIb that the changes become ob!ious. The %e!el IIIa Material can be !iewed by clicking this link. %e!el IIIa
Manual
The Tibetan material was originally added to traditional "sui #hiki Ryoho by /rthur Robertson. /rthur
Robertson was a student of one of Mrs. Takata)s Masters$ Iris Ishikuro. The style he created was called
Raku Kai Reiki. /lthough the idea that Reiki is from Tibet has been widely populari?ed by such authors as
William Rand and Diane #tein there is in actuality no e!idence that Reiki was e!er practiced in Tibet. "sui
Reiki Ryoho was de!eloped by Mikao "sui in ;apan incorporating elements of Tendai 2uddhism$ <en
Training$ and ;apanese Ki Ko and most likely elements of Dai Rei ;utsu. It is my opinion that it likely shares
common roots with the religion ;ohrei. In Tibet$ there are hands on healing arts that might be considered
similar to reiki. These are the -reen and White Tara =mpowerments$ and the Medicine 2uddha. There are
some similarities in that they use empowerments and some hands on techni, ues but they are not reiki.
The Tibetan (ractices were incorporated into "sui Reiki and renamed Raku Kai Reiki. The techni, ues
added included the 2reath of the &ire Dragon 8i.e.$ 1iolet 2reath9$ the Microcosmic >rbit called the .ui 0in$
the White %ight #ymbol from the ;ohrei Religion$ the /ntahkarana #ymbol$ Reiki -uides and Reiki -uide
Meditations and a few other techni, ues. The symbols of the Raku$ Tibetan Master #ymbol$ and the &ire
#erpent were also added. The two schools most influenced by Raku Kai would appear to be Kathleen
Milner)s Tera Mai 8tm9 Reiki$ and William Rand)s "sui'Tibetan Reiki. The "sui'Tibetan Tradition has been
populari?ed by William Rand and Diane #tein.
The "sui ' Tibetan #chools often add a le!el IIIa in their curriculum. This means they are teaching four
le!els rather than the traditional three in Western "sui #hiki Ryoho. This le!el is generally taught as a
personal mastery le!el$ and a number of new age techni, ues are taught including Reiki 3rystal -rids$
.ealing /ttunements$ the /ntahkarana #ymbol and Meditations$ Reiki -uide Work$ and other Techni,ues.
If you would like to read about these please !isit the Reiki %e!el IIIa #ection of this manual. With the
e:ception of #canning and 2eaming 8which were part of the original system9 this material was added on by
Iris Ishikuro$ /rthur Robertson$ William Rand$ Diane #tein and others.
The %e!el I and II in "sui Tibetan Reiki are generally consistent with what is taught in Traditional Western
"sui Reiki. (lease refer to the %e!el I and %e!el II Manuals for this information. This section begins with
the "sui Tibetan %e!el IIIb Master symbols.
The "sui'Tibetan traditions did not e:ist before 5HGA and were de!eloped after that date. #ince the
"sui'Tibetan Traditions ha!e added a le!el in between The Traditional "sui #hiki %e!els of %e!el B and
%e!el C it is important to e:amine the le!els and the changes that this entailed. In the .ayashi+Takata
)
tradition that de!eloped in the Western World there were only three le!els. These were %e!el 5$ %e!el B$
and %e!el C or the Reiki Master %e!el. %e!el 5 typically included recei!ing one attunement$ taught the hand
positions$ the reiki history$ some basic guidelines to healing$ and practice using the reiki. %e!el B added
distant healing$ the three reiki symbols 8power symbol'focus$ mental+emotional symbol'harmony$ and
Distance #ymbol'3onnection9 are taught and uses are gi!en. #ome /lliance masters continue to teach an
emotional healing program. #ome still taught scanning. %e!el C taught the master symbol$ the attunement
process and how to do attunements. It is useful to e:amine what continued to be taught in the -akkai in
;apan in an unbroken line since "sui. In Reiki Ryoho as practiced in ;apan in the -akkai there are
presently four le!els. These are #ho+den$ >ku+den ?en ki and >ku+den Kouki$ and #hinpi+den. The
;apanese ha!e two le!els of second teachings$ where in the West some schools ha!e %e!el IIIa and IIIb.
>ku+den <en ki is the second teaching. This contained .atsurei+ho 8a way to de!elop and e:pand your reiki
channel and grow spiritually. .atsurei ho includes self cleansing and meditation. It also includes "shi+te$
>shi+te$ and 4ade+te which are tapping hand$ pushing hand$ and stroking hand respecti!ely. These
techni, ues are common in chi kung and probably came from ;apanese Ki Ko. They are used to remo!e
negati!e energies. 8They are also massage+like in some sense and will get you into a lot of trouble here in
the Regulatory paradise in the west where massage is licensed! This le!el also included #eikaku 3hiryou.
>ku+den Kouki is the second teaching part II. In the Reiki Ryoho in ;apan this le!el is a le!el of personal
and spiritual de!elopment$ while in the west it is called le!el IIIa and is a le!el of personal mastery. %e!el
IIIa in the west bears little resemblance to the practices taught in this le!el in ;apan. This included
additional meditations 8as listed abo!e9 as well as =nkaku 3hiryou which is known in the west as distant
treatment. "sui Reiki Ryoho was not to de!elop psychic powers. It was an enlightenment system which
healing was one part.
Raku Kai Reiki added the 2reath of the &ire Dragon$ the Water 3eremony$ the White light symbol 8;ohrei9$
The Tibetan symbols$ the .ui 0in$ and Ralf ;enson)s Master &re,uency -enerator (lates. %ater Masters
such as William Rand and Diane #tein seem to ha!e added the teaching of reiki bo:es$ sending at inter!als$
crystal grids$ /ntahkarana symbols$ Tibetan symbols$ Reiki -uides$ .ealing /ttunements$ #ymbol
Meditations$ and other techni, ues. The popularity of these approaches ha!e led to the widespread but
incorrect belief that reiki was from Tibet$ rather than these were techni, ues that some masters felt ga!e
them a better e:perience of Reiki.
The Reiki %e!el 5 and %e!el B in the Tibetan Reiki)s are essentially the same as they are in "sui #hiki
Ryoho as practiced in the west. To re!iew this material$ please refer to the "sui #hiki Ryoho Level " and
Level $ Manuals on this site.
Usui Tibetan Reiki Level IIIa Manual
The "sui Tibetan %e!el IIIa was added in a few years back. It was concei!ed of and is called a le!el of
(ersonal Mastery. This generally amounts to being taught a number of new age add+on techni, ues. The
most common of these are a reiki #ymbol Meditation$ a -oal Manifestation Techni,ue$ a Reiki 3rystal -rid$
a Techni,ue to meet your Reiki -uides$ a .ealing /ttunement$ a (sychic #urgery Techni,ue$ and the
/ntahkarana symbol and Meditation.
I ha!e often seen those teaching le!el IIIa claim that the le!el IIIa class deepens the connection with the
Reiki #ource$ or people who take le!el IIIa are better healers$ or most people do not want to teach and
so this le!el of )personal mastery) enables them to practice more fully as reiki practitioners. %et us e:amine
each of these claims and e!aluate what is being said with what we know about Reiki.
The first statement was$ that le!el IIIa deepens the connection with the Reiki #ource. The reality is that
any practice of Reiki$ whether that be self+treatments$ treating others$ or hatsurei ho$ deepens the
connection with the reiki source. 3onsistent practice is the key. That being said e!en e:tensi!e practice
does not seem to change the healing outcomes here in the western tradition. In the west it is commonly
taught that Reiki does the healing$ not us. We are channels of the Reiki energy from the >ne #ource
8-od'-oddess'3reator'Whate!er phrase floats your boat9. / personal connection to the Reiki #ource is
wonderful$ indeed it is that feeling that makes Reiki so wonderful to do. It allows you to e:perience a lo!ing
personal connection to the 3reator. That being said$ a deepening of that connection is not in any way
necessary to heal using Reiki. .ow could it be$ since we are not the one)s doing the healing. If Reiki truly
always acts in the highest good of the person recei!ing it$ then as long as I am connected to the reiki
source$ then is flows through me into the person recei!ing for their highest good.
The second statement was$ people who take le!el IIIa are better healers. %et us again look at the basic
assumptions of Reiki. Reiki does the healing and we are channels$ and Reiki can do no harm and always
works in the highest good of the person recei!ing it. If these assumptions regarding Reiki are true$ then you
ability as a healer is irrele!ant. Reiki does the healing$ you are along for the ride 8but it is a !ery nice ride$
en7oy it!9. 0ou can learn all the meditati!e$ crystal using$ space alien$ ascended masters$ goddess
channeling$ angel working practices you want$ they won)t make the Reiki any better. 8/lthough there is the
argument that Reiki increase the efficacy of those practices$ and if that is the case some argument could be
made regarding their inclusion. .owe!er$ at that point are you still doing ReikiI9
The third statement abo!e made was$ or most people do not want to teach and so this le!el of )personal
mastery) enables them to practice more fully as reiki practitioners. What if one fine day you decide you want
to pass this to you mother$ father$ children$ siblings$ friendsI What thenI Do you then go and pay for
another class to learn the attunement process that you could already do$ had it been taught when you
recei!ed the master attunement in IIIaI >r do you$ like some$ simply get a copy of the attunement process
and then use it$ but worry that you may not be doing it correctlyI
This le!el to me seems artificial$ and a great marketing strategy. (ersonal Mastery with Reiki comes from
e:perience with Reiki$ not with pseudo+Reiki add on techni, ues. (ersonal mastery comes from doing Reiki.
Reiki$ from the Di!ine source$ teaches many subtle e:periential lessons. These are your lessons. #oft
lo!ing e:periential lessons that cannot be ade, uately communicated to another in a class no matter how
good a communicator you are. They can only be communicated by Reiki in the doing and being. Doing Reiki
on yourself or others C6 minutes a day will teach you far more than any manual 8especially one as mediocre
as this one is!9. If you truly desire to de!elop personal mastery$ I would strongly encourage you to learn
the Reiki Ryoho techni,ue of .atsurei ho and practice it daily. /dditionally$ do the principles morning and at
night and any time that you feel emotionally charged$ angry or stressed. This is in accord with the original
intent and design of the "sui #ystem and will make a profound difference in your own inner healing.

fairly standardi?ed. Mrs. Takata died in 5HG6. /fter Mrs. Takata)s death$ people began to ,uestion pricing

(ractices$ and e!erything in between. #ome Reiki Masters began e:perimenting with this simple art of Reiki$
and adding e!erything under the sun into it. 4ew symbols were added. (eople began speculating then
stating Reiki came from Tibet$ =gypt$ /tlantis$ and whole new arts were built onto the framework of what
was Reiki.
4ew styles emerged. #tyles such as "sui'Tibetan Reiki$ 1a7ra Reiki 8was ;ohre Reiki9$ 2lue #tar Reiki$
Karuna ReikiJ $ Tera Mai ReikiJ $ #eichim Reiki$ %ightarian ReikiJ #iddheartha ReikiJ $ and more others than I
can probably name. #ome added new symbols$ others modified the attunement process$ still others
changed the focus from a healing art to a tool for ascension work or self+de!elopment$ or for -alactic

enlightenment producing!
Understand that none o' these techni*ues are necessary to #ractice reiki e''ectively/ and none o' the
0ere used in 1a#an, #ome Reiki Masters ,uestion the !alidity of these practices$ or the inclusion of them
under the descriptor Reiki. I will list some of the more common modifications and Reiki /d!anced
(ractices 8R/T9 here$ as well as some other Techni, ues of /d!anced Reiki 8T./.R.9. Try them if you
choose. If you find them useful$ add them to your practices. .ere you will find some of what are commonly
referred to as ad!anced techni, ues. These are my personal modifications of these practices are
presented here.
Reiki Symbol Meditation
Reiki #ymbol Meditation is meditation using the Reiki #ymbols. It is a hybrid of meditation and !isuali?ation
that is half attunement and half meditation. It is designed to increase the connection to the reiki source by
meditating on the symbols. Knowing this is the process$ those of you who are familiar with meditation could
easily fashion your own meditation on the symbols$ !isuali?ing the symbols and meditating on the
connection to the reiki source. =:periment and e:plore. These practices are not written in stone$ and were
de!eloped by other people$ 7ust like you. Their ways are no better 8or no worseI!!9 than yours.
To do this meditation$ use guidelines that anyone doing meditation of any sort might follow. -et yourself into
a comfortable position. #itting in a comfortable chair that allows your spine to be erect is good. (lacing your
hands on your lap and ha!ing your feet comfortably touch the floor generally works well. Rela:ing the body
using some deep breathing$ or muscular rela:ation can sometimes help.
/s with all meditation$ if your mind wanders while meditating$ allow the thoughts to slip away$ paying them
no mind$ and gently refocus. .a!ing done that$ breathe slow and deep$ shut your eyes and focus on the
feeling of Reiki. #ometimes it helps to allow that sensation to begin in your palms. /llow the reiki to pour into
you and intend that it do so. %et your mind stay on this sensation and feeling. 4ow allow the lo!ing feel of
the Reiki #ource to be with you as the reiki energy flows into you. #tay with this feeling for a time and then
when you are ready$ you can begin to meditate on the symbols.
The first symbol we will use is the Master symbol. =ither draw it in front of you or !isuali?e it in your mind.
#ay the name of the symbol 8either out loud or in your head9. 1isuali?e the symbol as golden$ intensely
bright and empowered with the lo!ing energy of the reiki source. /llow it to flow into you$ and for any
message it might ha!e for you to manifest. #tay focused on the symbol and the reiki flow and the source.
The Master symbol is the symbol of empowerment$ and of the -reat #hining %ight. /llow the symbol and
energy to show you what that means. #tay with this as long as you feel comfortable.
When you are ready$ do the same with the (ower #ymbol$ the Mental'=motional #ymbol$ and the Distance
#ymbol. 0ou can so the meditation with all four symbols in one setting$ or my personal preference is to only
work with one symbol per session and increase the time meditating on that symbol. The connection feels
more personal that way.
When you are finished$ draw all four symbols in front of you saying their names. That the reiki source for
sharing this with you. /t this point$ you are likely to be filled with energy and this would be a good time to
work on doing self+treatments$ treating others$ doing distant healing$ manifesting goals$ charging your reiki
crystals$ or watching reruns of -reen /cres. 8no really!!!$ /rnold the pig helps ground people. >k$ so that
was a bad 7oke. .owe!er$ grounding yourself is important! If you are not grounded$ you might find yourself
light headed and di??y after this meditation. &ind something that is grounding and do it. 0ou can place your
palms on the earth$ go for a walk$ !isuali?e roots running to the center of the earth and connecting$ drink
water or whate!er works for you. 0ou can also put your tongue on the soft pallate 87ust behind the teeth9$
draw the power symbol on the feet$ that hara 87ust below the na!al9 and the palms. (lace your palms on the
hara and concentrate on that area for a few minutes. This tends to bring the e:cess energy from the upper
chakras and into the hara. /ny method of grounding works and keeps the di??ies from happening!
There are an infinite number of possibilities of Reiki Meditations a!ailable. 0ou can do it focusing only on the
connection to the reiki source. 0ou can add other meditati!e practices such as light body meditations$ or
Mer+Ka+2a. =:periement and know that your modifications are 7ust as good and !alid as anyone else)s$ they
7ust cost less!
Mani'esting 2oals
There are se!eral methods a!ailable to help use reiki and the reiki symbols to manifest goals. /d!ocates of
these techni, ues feel that they can help manifest changes in your life. Manifestation practices can be done
alone$ or after doing a Reiki Meditation like the one described abo!e. 4o matter what method you use to
manifest goals$ always be ethical in what you ask for.
#it and rela:$ breathing gently and deeply. =ither out loud or to yourself$ say your goal. #tate it in such a
way that their can only be one interpretation and cannot be misinterpreted. 3onnect to the Reiki energy.
Draw the symbols on your palms. In your mind$ create a mental mo!ie$ or mental image of this goal being
accomplished. Draw the reiki symbols on the mental picture starting with the power symbol and ending with
the power symbol. Repeat this same procedure for each goal you wish to accomplish. When you are
finished$ say 8out loud or in your mind9 If this be possible within Di!ine lo!e and wisdom$ then let it be so.
&inish by drawing all the reiki symbols again on the !isuali?ation and sealing it with a power symbol. 2elie!e
totally that this process is done and that this goal is already being manifested.
/nother Manifestation techni,ue is a Manifestation Triangle. This techni,ue is a better choice for those who
are not as good with !isuali?ation techni, ues. /lso$ because it in!ol!es writing$ it is more concrete and can
help focus you on what you truly want. The first step is to draw a triangle. /t the bottom left hand corner
write the person)s name that this manifestation is to be for 8yourself or someone else9. 4e:t$ at the top of the
triangle$ write what you want to happen. This should be the best possible solution to the situation. The
situation and person)s name should be specific. 0ou can say This will manifest for the highest good of
8person)s name9. 4e:t$ at the bottom right hand corner$ write the situation. /fter setting up your triangle$
and writing out the name$ solution and situation$ draw a power key symbol o!er each corner. Draw a power
symbol o!er the whole triangle. (lace your hands on the triangle picture and do reiki on it$ intending it to
manifest.
Reiki 3rystal 2rid
4
This techni,ue was de!eloped to set up a continuous flow of reiki energy for healing or protection by using
crystals and the reiki energy. This techni,ue did not e:ist in Reiki Ryoho in ;apan$ and was not part of the
.ayashi+Takata "sui #hiki Ryoho$ but like most of the add+on)s was de!eloped after the death of Mrs.
Takata. It is not my belief that you can empower a grid to continuously send Reiki. I think sending reiki
in!ol!es intent and a connection between the sender$ the energy and the recei!er. I do not teach this
practice. It is included here for your reference. The ad!ocates of this procedure belie!e that a crystal grid
can be created and charged with Reiki energy. It is thought that it will continue to send Reiki energy for
healing$ protection$ or to assist with goal manifestation for se!eral days or longer. The idea of using
charged ob7ects to bring about a desired outcome for the user or wearer is nothing new. Talismans ha!e
been used throught recorded history. These techni, ues are generally from magical traditions.
(sychologists belie!e that there is a self+fulfilling prophecy regarding the wearing of such ob7ects as well as
a placebo effect.
To make the Reiki -rid you need eight crystals. 8There are many books on crystal selection with rather
lengthy guidelines about how to select the perfect crystal for you.9 &or our purposes$ the easiest method
of crystal selection is to pick the crystals up and 7ust see how they feel to you. Try not to so much think
about this as feel it. #end some reiki into the crystal and see how that feels as well$ allowing your intuition
to guide you. Most new age shops and many science or hobby shops sell crystals. Regular Rose Kuart?$
or White Kuart? tumbled smooth stones are sufficient for the puspose of making this grid and are
ine:pensi!e. 0ou will also need a picture of the person that the grid will send to or protect. /fter you ha!e
the stones$ they will need to be cleansed. #ome crystal e:perts belie!e you should cleanse them in clear
water and then lea!e them in the sun and moon light for a period of three days. >ther e:perts belie!e it is
best to place them in rock or sea salt or salt water for BA hours. #ay a prayer o!er them after you ha!e put
them in the salt or salt water$ asking that they be purified for your highest spiritual good.
3hoose a place for the Reiki -rid. The best location is one where others do not go so that the grid is not
disturbed. Take the eight crystals that you ha!e cleansed$ and choose the one that seems the strongest.
This will be the Master 3harging 3rystal. &or your central 8Master9 crystal$ you may want to choose a
double terminated crystal$ a cluster$ a pyramid or a crystal ball. 8#ome practitioners conceptuali?e this in
terms of yin and yang. 0ou are looking for the crystal that is the most yang or ha!ing the strongest male
energy.9 4e:t$ place si: of the crystals at e,ual points around a circle about 56 to 5Binches in diameter.
This creates a he:agon or si:+sided figure. (lace the last crystal in the center. This makes se!en stones in
the design in total. The eighth will be used as the Master crystal. (lay with the arrangement until it feels
right. This arrangement uses a si: sided figure. It is possible to construct them in any geometric shape.
1arious Magick traditions such as Wicca and .ermetic Magick attribute different meanings to the !arious
shapes. 3hoose one that best represents what you are trying to accomplish. Take a picture of yourself or
the person that you want to send reiki to. Draw the four Reiki #ymbols on the back$ the person)s name$ and
an affirmation to help empower and set the intent of the process. 2e creati!e. 0ou can use a piece of
paper with a goal$ intent or need on it instead of a picture. Draw out the four Reiki #ymbols on the paper
and then Reiki it between your hands and place it within the crystal -rid. The -rid will continuously send
Reiki to heal the person or bring about the goal. /t this point you ha!e the purified crystals and your
prepared picture. The ne:t step is to charge the crystals with the reiki energy. This is !ery simple to do.
Take each crystal into your hands and send Reiki into it for about 56 minutes or so. Do this with each
crystal$ one at a time until all of them are done. 0ou can also say prayers$ or ask your Reiki or spiritual
guides to assist you while you are charging them. /nother way to charge them is to do a Reiki /ttunement
on each crystal or do an attunement on the grid once it is completed. >nce the crystals are charged put
each back in its place on the grid. (ut the Master 3rystal in last. It is suggested that you not mo!e the
crystals after they are in place as it will weaken the energy connections. The Master 3rystal is used to keep
your Reiki -rid charged. This stone can be recharged when needed by holding it in the hand during a reiki
meditation$ beaming reiki into it$ or reattuning it. To finish the grid hold the Master crystal in your right hand.
#tarting at the top$ begin to connect the dots that are formed by the crystals on the grid. 0ou will be starting
at the top and making si: triangles as you connect the imaginary lines between the stones on the outside
and the center stone. Mo!e around the -rid in a counterclockwise direction. 0ou can also say an
affirmation or mantra as you do this. #ome masters meditate with they Master 3rystal fre, uently to keep
their Reiki -rid charged up.
Reiki 2uide Meditation
This techni,ue is commonly taught in the %e!el IIIa classes of the "sui'Tibetan #chool and has been
populari?ed by authors such as William Rand and Diane #tein. Reiki -uides were not part of Traditional
Reiki as taught by "sui. %ike most of the add+on material$ Reiki -uides and the belief in them were added
on by other masters in the west after the death of Mrs. Takata and were ne!er used by "sui. "nderstand
that Reiki works without guides and that guides are not necessary to practicing reiki$ or doing attunements.
Many people use reiki their entire li!es without e!er ha!ing a guide. /lthough I do belie!e that people can
ha!e guides 8and there is plenty of precedents set by the world)s religions with guardian angels and other
spirit protectors9 I am not of the mind that there are specific reiki guides. There are some authors belie!e
that reiki guides are really the ones that do reiki$ and are the presence doing the attunements and will
correct errors made by the Reiki Master during an attunement. I do not share this belief and my opinion is
that reiki in all manifestations comes from the source of all. I do not use guides in my practice$ nor do I
teach them or this procedure. It is included here for your reference only.
%ike all meditation practices$ find a time alone and a place without distractions. #it comfortably in a straight
backed chair with your hands on your thighs. /s you breath in$ see the breath as white light filling e!ery
part of your body. /s the white light goes through your body with your breath$ it collects this tension and is
blown out of you with the release of the breath.
1isuali?e a fountain of white %ight descending down o!er you. This light flows o!er you and down to the
ground. /s it touches your energy it collects the negati!e energy and e!erything that is not for your highest
good. The Reiki %ight transmutes the negati!e energy into light. /llow the light to form a protecti!e bubble
around you. 0ou are completely surrounded by this bubble of light and you feel safe and protected.
Do some form of systematic muscular rela:ation. >ne that I use is*
/llow the rela:ation to come into the soles of both of your feet at the same time. &eel your feet rela:. %et
the rela:ing sensation mo!e up the legs into the ankles$ letting the muscles and bones rela:. The rela:ing

/llow the legs to totally rela:$ and then let the energy mo!e up into the hips$ rela:ing the hips. /nd your legs
and hips are totally rela:ed. 4ow let the rela:ing power mo!e up the spine$ and a warm feeling of energy
mo!es up the spine as it rela:es the muscles of the back. The energy mo!es into the shoulders$ and you
allow your shoulders to rela:. The energy now mo!es down the arms$ and into the hands$ rela:ing your
upper arms$ fore arms$ and hands. 4ow the energy mo!es up the neck$ rela:ing the muscles in the neck
and up the head$ into the scalp and the head and scalp are rela:ed. The energy mo!es down o!er the
5

guide. /t this point$ concentrate on the breathing and let go of all thought.
/s you sit in your chair$ see a beautiful column of (ure White %ight$ or a column of -olden Di!ine %ight.
/llow the di!ine light to come in your presence and then to en!elop you$ and be with you. /s you ga?e at
this %ight$ you see a figure emerging from out of the %ight and coming towards you. /s they approach$ you
start to see more of what they looks like. 0ou may wish to ask them some ,uestions to help them
communicate with you. /s you ask these ,uestions and recei!e the answers$ know that you will remember
them clearly upon awakening. 0ou will both intuit$ feel$ hear or otherwise recei!e the answers. /sk and or

Reiki Psychic Surgery Techni*ue
This techni,ue was de!eloped by William Rand. It is a pseudo+hypnosis'!isuali?ation psychodrama
techni,ue that tries to focus a person on sol!ing an area that they are stuck in and breaking up blockages.
This techni,ue reminds me of some neuro+linguistic programming techni, ues I was once taught minus the

Techniques of Advanced Reiki (T.A.R)
Welcome to the Techni, ues of /d!anced Reiki 8T./.R.9 .ere you will find a .ealing /ttunement$ and the
/ntahkarana #ymbol and Meditation.
Section 6ne - The Reiki 7ealing Attunement
#ack$roun
/ Reiki .ealing /ttunement is a non+initiatory attunement that is gi!en for healing purposes only. It was not
a part of traditional "sui Reiki and as such is not necessary in the least to practice Reiki. This /ttunement
was conceptuali?ed to be non+initiatory which means that it is not supposed to initiate the person recei!ing it
into Reiki. It was thought that it would bring higher fre, uency energies and more powerful le!els of energies
into the person than a traditional hands on treatment. 8>kay$ for those diligent readers who ha!e ploughed
through all this ranting and ra!ing of mine$ here is your test + .ow am I going to respond to these claimsI9
The prime directi!e of reiki is that we do not control the energy$ reiki does the healing not us$ and reiki
always works for the highest good of the recipient. #o@@.. using that as a guideline I would ha!e to say
that the healing attunement would not work any better at healing than any regular hands on treatment.
Indeed$ how could itI Reiki does the healing not us$ and Reiki decides what is in the highest good of the
person$ not us$ so we cannot control the energy by doing e:tra special healing attunements.
Please %ote8 This /ttunement as conceptuali?ed is not supposed to initiate the client into Reiki. The
in!entors of this procedure belie!e that it is not an /ttunement (rocess for conferring the status of Reiki
practitioner$ therefore the Reiki Master can utili?e this particular process in his or her healing work. It is
thought that the reason the .ealing /ttunement does not initiate the client into Reiki is that the #ymbols are
not placed into the hands$ but instead are placed in the recipient)s .eart 3hakra. My e:perience tells me
that any attunement confers the status of a reiki practitioner on a person. 8This occurred a number of times
after doing the .ealing /ttunement and ha!ing people contact you days later telling you that their hands are
!ery hot$ and that when e!er they touch themsel!es or others they become hot and it feels rela:ing and
pleasant to the recei!er. "pon e:amination and ha!ing them try this on me$ it appeared that they had
recei!ed an attunement.9 "nderstand full well when gi!ing this that you are initiating someone into reiki. If
you do this and the person e:periences post attunement effects$ you are ethically bound to instruct them in
reiki so they understand the gift gi!en them.
It was told to me that the effect of this attunement does not last more than C6 days. That also has not been
borne out by my e:perience. With a willing !olunteer$ it was found that the effect was still acti!e after HD
days 8and counting9 and so please heed the cautionary statement abo!e.
This Reiki .ealing /ttunement was thought to be a way for a client to be able to remo!e blockages and is
used with a pseudo+therapeutic techni,ue to help the person focus on the blockage and why it might be
occuring. /s with any attunement$ it can remo!e negati!e energies from the client)s physical body$ aura and
chakras. It can also help release blocks. It needs to be said that this is what any regular hands on reiki
session or attunement does.
To "tili?e the blockage releasing potential of the .ealing /ttunement e:plain to the person that they must
be willing to let go of the block as well as any other effected areas in their life related to the block. In order
for it to be most effecti!e they must be willing to let go and heal and make the necessary changes related to
the block. The client)s intent in the attunement should be focused on the issues relating to the block and
letting go of it and healing.
This .ealing /ttunement is also conceptuali?ed to help empower goals. 8&or more information about
-oal =mpowerment and Manifestation of -oals. To do this$ discuss with the person what goals they ha!e
had trouble achie!ing$ and what might need to be released and healed so it can be achie!ed. Reali?e that
there are often unconscious fears and feelings that pre!ent the person from achie!ing the goal. /lso$ there
can be fears that if the goals is accomplished the person may ha!e to make changes in their life which may
be uncomfortable or frightening and so they a!oid completing that goal. These blocks and fears can be
focused on and released during the healing attunement.
9
Procedure
%ike all attunements$ the client should sit in a chair$ back erect$ with their feet on the floor. The de!elopers
of this techni,ue belie!e that the recipient)s eyes should be closed for the duration of the healing
attunement. This is because they need to focus inwardly on achie!ing their primary purpose. It is also
done so they cannot see the attunement process.
(rior to starting the .ealing /ttunement mo!e behind the person and say a silent prayer and state your
intent. 0ou can also ask for the help of your spiritual -uides$ Reiki -uides$ angels$ etc. Draw the (ower
symbol on your palm$ 3rown$ and heart 3hakras and intend that they be opened to the %ight. Draw all si:
Reiki #ymbols in the air in front of you$ then you are ready. .
Part 6ne - Move behind the Person
&rom behind the client make the sign of the &ire #erpent. This starts from abo!e the head$ down the back
and spirals at the base of the spine. (lace your hands on their shoulders$ or on top of their head for a few
moments to de!elop an energetic rapport with the person.
3ontract and hold the .ui 0in$ and hold it throughout the entire attunement. Do the 1iolet 2reath. 8To see
the .ui 0in and !iolet breath$ see the instructions in the Reiki %e!el III #ection of this manual. >pen your
hands and e:hale into the 3rown 3hakra$ picturing the Tibetan Master #ymbol mo!ing from the middle of
your head$ out with your breath$ into their crown chakra. Mo!e the symbol down through their head$ guiding
it with your hand$ into their heart chakra while saying the name of the Dumo 8Tibetan Master #ymbol9 three
times. 8Mo!ing the symbol into the heart chakra is how this differs from a traditional attunement where the
symbols go into the base of the brain. The de!elopers of this techni,ue belie!e that means the person will
not be Initiated into Reiki. I belie!e this to be incorrect. Read the warnings regarding this which are part of
this section.9
Do the same techni,ue with the "sui Master #ymbol$ this time saying the name of the "sui master symbol
three times as you mo!e it from the crown shakra to the heart. Repeat this with the (ower #ymbol$ the
Mental'=motional #ymbol and the Distance .ealing #ymbol
Part T0o - Move to the :ront
Draw the Tibetan #ymbol o!er the crown chakra. #ay the name of the Dumo three times as you mo!e it
from the crown chakra to the third eye chakra. the heart and then into the solar ple:us. -ently tap the top of
the head three times with the finger tips. Repeat this with the "sui Master #ymbol$ the (ower symbol$ the
Mental'=motional symbol$ and the Distance .ealing #ymbol.
2low toward the #olar (le:us$ and gently blow from the .eart$ the Third =ye and 3rown 3hakras. 2low
back down to the #olar (le:us$ then back up to the 3rown. This is one slow e!en breath. 0ou are opening
the channels when you do this so you can use your hands to help guide the energy. 0ou can also keep a
strong intention to remo!e and sweep out all negati!e energy by sweeping out this energy as you blow by
making a sweeping motion with the hands. #weep it from the aura to the light.
Part Three - Move behind the Person
%ook down the head through the crown chakra$ and !isuali?e and imagine that you can see the heart. %ook
for a soft green$ white or pink ball of light. (lace a positi!e affirmation into the person)s heart by repeating it
to yourself three times. Iintend it to enter the heart and to be accepted by the subconscious mind. #ome

(lace one hand on the back of the person)s heart 3hakra and your other hand on their shoulder. #ay aloud$
I now perfectly seal this healing process with Di!ine %o!e and Wisdom (icture a door with the (ower
symbol on it being closed and locked o!er the .eart 3hakra. While you do this$ intend$ will and feel that the
healing process is sealed and complete. (lace your hands on the person)s shoulders knowing that you
ha!e both been blessed by this process.
Part :our - Move to the :ront
.old your hands at waist le!el$ palms out facing the person$ makse sure the hui yin is contracted and breath
a final breath at the person intending that the energy act as a blessing for the person. #ome masters
program this attunement to last a specified time for the person to be able to work on the issue.

I ha!e seen of the /ntahkarana describe it as bring in the spiritual anatomy of all li!ing things. It is the
connection between your brain and your higher self. It is thought that if you are to e!er grow spiritually$ you
must de!elop and heal this connection. The symbol itself is thought to represent that connection and is
thought by its mere presence 8i.e.$ seeing it9 to facilitate that connection. Indeed$ 7ust ha!ing the thing in
sight is supposed to ha!e a beneficial and uplifting effect on the chakras and auras. It will also increase the
efficacy of all healing techni, ues. It is thought to complete the Microcosmic orbit by meditating on it$ which
facilitates a flow of energy to all the chakras. I ha!e heard of it being used to clear and cleanse crystals of
negati!e energy.
The /ntahkarana symbol is a cube shaped symbol. It has on its surface three se!ens. These are thought
to correspond to the F chakras$ se!en colors$ se!en tones on the musical scale. In the apocryphal book of
Re!elations there are the three se!ens of the se!en trumpets$ the se!en candlesticks and the se!en seals.
Its energy mo!es through all dimensions$ leading us to out higher self. It probably corresponded also to the
se!en plantets.
The Meditation practice included here is attributed to Tibetan practices. &rom the information I was taught$
it was said that the monks would use a room lit with se!en candles. /n earthen !essel would be in the

The Antahkarana Symbol
The /ntahkarana is reported to be ,uite a panacea. It is said to
ha!e its own consciousness$ to work on the aura$ the chakras$
the organs$ and !arious other aspects of the energy body. It is
said to connect you to the higher self. It is like that shampoo
that ad7usts to what your hair needsL in that it ad7usts itself to
what you need at the time. I was taught that it cannot be used
for harm$ much in the same way Reiki cannot be used for harm. I was taught you can place it on things$
under them$ and all sorts of places to assisst in healing.
It is primarily used for Meditation$ and there are a number of methods for doing that. The simplest is to ga?e
on the form on a paper or to make a cube with the image on it and stare at it and meditate. #ome people
report that the image will fade in and out of consciousness or that they will see !isions.
The si?e of the image is supposedly related to the masculine and feminine aspects of the image. It was
taught me that a large single image feminine and the smaller symbol was masculine in energy.
/ Meditation using the /ntahkarana #ymbol
This meditation$ as it was taught me appears to be like the Reiki Meditation in the R./.T 8see abo!e9
#ection of this manual$ along with some basic 3hi -ung Macrocosmic >rbit work. This process was
thought to cleanse the system of negati!ity$ negati!e energy$ and to cleanse the chakras as you circulate
the energy. 8/uthor)s note* /ny good meditation or chi gung practice will do this.9
This meditation is purported to impro!e your healing skills$ open the third eye$ increase your clair!oyance$
and any other number of wonderments. The process begins with "sing the Reiki Master #ymbol 8/uthor)s
note* has anyone but me noticed that most of these additional techni, ues need the Reiki #ymbols'energy
to power or empower themI9
&irst place the /ntahkarana #ymbol under your feet. 4e:t do a complete Reiki .ealing /ttunement on
yourself. (lace your hands on your thighs and rela:. &eel the Reiki flow. 4ow draw the "sui Master symbol
in the air before you. 8#ome !isuali?e white light coming from their hand as they draw the symbol. /s you
draw the symbol$ say the name of the "sui Master symbol three times. Keep the image in your mind and
meditate on it. 4ow &ocus your ga?e on the /ntahkarana #ymbol. #ay the name of the symbol three
times$ and then hold the symbol in your mind)s eye and meditate on the symbol. When you feel done$
focus on the symbols and mo!e them up$ into the light$ or a field of intense white light. When this is done$
do the .ui 0in$ then !isuali?e the "sui (ower symbol at the .ara$ and then at each chakra all around the
channel until you reach the hara again. This is to clear each chakra. #ee the light and Reiki energy at
each chakra as you do this.
Well$ there you ha!e it. %e!el IIIa. "se this if you like$ but understand that none of this is done in ;apan and
it is not necessary to do Reiki$ or do it effecti!ely.
%e!el IIIb
%e!el IIIb generally consists of two parts. The first teaches the "sui #hiki Ryoho %e!el III Master material
including the "sui Master symbol and its uses. #econd$ the Tibetan material and symbols was taught.
3lick this link to !iew the "sui #hiki Ryoho %e!el III Master Manual on this site. This material should be
learned before proceeding.
Learning and Using The Usui / Tibetan Symbols
The "sui'Tibetan symbols consist of the &ire #erpent$ Dumo$ and Raku.
/ brief statement regarding symbols needs to be addressed. #ymbols are e:actly that$ a symbol. They are
not the thing they represent. These symbols$ like the "sui symbols are representations of a specific
manifestation or property of the Reiki energy. They are not the energy themsel!es. /s people progress
spiritually$ they find increasing le!els of simplicity. It is not uncommon for people to mo!e past the need to
use the symbols and simply use the source energy directly.
#ome may find the presentation of the symbols here abhorrent. To them$ the symbols are secret and
sacred. The secreti!e belief$ presumably$ is that if the symbols are known they will lose their power or that
others will profane them or try to use them for uses other than reiki$ or to harm. The symbols ha!e no power
of their own. They are a connection to the source$ not the source itself. The symbols cannot be profaned or
used for harm$ they represent the Reiki source$ and Reiki cannot be used for harm. Reiki is sacred$ the
symbols are kan7i$ or ;apanese words. They are found on temple walls$ in books$ in 2uddhist practices$ and
all sort of other places in plain !iew in ;apan. Indeed$ anyone with a ;apanese dictionary could look them
up.
UM6 or Tibetan Master Symbol
The "sui'Tibetan style also refer to the Dumo as a Dai Ko Mio$ or the Tibetan DaiKoMio. In my practice$ I
refer to the "sui Master #ymbol as the Dai Ko Mio$ and the Tibetan Master #ymbol as the Dumo to a!oid
confusion. Diane #tein$ in her book =ssential Reiki stated that many modern teachers feel that the
Traditional Dai Ko Myo #ymbol is more in tune with the older time$ whereas the
nontraditional #ymbol flows more closely to the !ibrations of today)s world and
teaching needs. #omething for e!eryone$ I suppose. #ome people prefer the
Traditional "sui$ and others prefer the "sui'Tibetan. If you feel drawn to use
one o!er the other$ then do so.
#ome see the Dumo as the -oddess #piral. 3oincidentally enough$ many of
these are people in!ol!ed with Wicca and other -oddess Religions. I do not
belie!e that is the intent of this symbol and it is not a Wiccan based goddess
spiral. 8/lthough Diane #tein draws hers that way.9 The Dumo is though to
unify the body and mind. It is reported to work with fire in the base chakra by
"<
igniting the #acred flame 8i.e.$ the Kundalini energy9. It is belie!ed to pull negati!e energy and disease from
the body and mind.
The Dumo represents the flow of the fire of the Kundalini. This Kundalini energy goes up the spine when the
Kundalini awakens as body and mind come together. This produces a heat and hence the description of
the energy as a kind of fire. Kundalini awakening is a discipline unto itself and something ne!er lightly
undertaken.
:ire ragon/ :ire Ser#ent or %in 2i= >ida
The &ire #erpent is thought to open the 3hakra system. This allows the Reiki .ealing energy to flow into the
person recei!ing the attunement or healing. Typically$ it would be drawn down the back of the person
recei!ing at the beginning of an attunement of a healing session.
Raku
Raku is used in passing attunements$ but generally not in indi!idual healings. I ha!e seen some authors
state that Raku helps to lift negati!e Karma$ and brings the student to higher le!els of consciousness
during an attunement. It is used at the end of an attunement to separate the auras and energies of the
master and the student.
PART II
The 7ui ?in and the &iolet @reath
The .ui 0in and 1iolet 2reath are generally not considered Traditional Techni, ues. 0ou can pass
attunements either using them or not. #ome people feel the attunements feel more powerful when using
these techni, ues. This is most likely because the .ui 0in is a chi kung techni,ue called the Microcosmic
>rbit. When using this$ your chi becomes part of the mi: while doing an attunement. It is my e:perience that
the attunements feel stronger when doing them this way.
The 7ui ?in
The .ui 0in point is located between the anus and the genitals. To do the techni,ue$ the point is contracted$
and the tongue is placed against the soft palate 8behind the upper teeth. I ha!e seem some Masters
speculate that when using the .ui 0in and 1iolet 2reath when passing /ttunements$ a special type of high
fre, uency 3hi enters the system and passes through the .ui 0in point$ making this a more powerful
process.. #ome masters go so far as to speculate that this point must be held for the entire time you are
doing the /ttunements to pre!ent the Ki from escaping from this point. /s with all speculation of this type$
no one really knows what the !eracity of such claims are. /ll I can offer is the "sui did not use this process.
If you are going to use the .ui 0in$ you must practice to de!elop the muscular control to hold the point for
lengthy periods.
To de!elop this muscle$ practice contracting the muscles in this area. (ull gently!!!!!! Do not strain and hurt
yourself!!! 0ou can also practice contracting these muscles continuously as you go about your daily
acti!ities. /s you continue practicing$ it will become easier and you will be able to hold them for longer
periods of time.
The &iolet @reath
1isuali?e a White Mist surrounding you. 4e:t$ contract the .ui 0in point and place your tongue behind the
upper teeth. 2reath in and imagine a white %ight coming down through the crown 3hakra$ through the
tongue$ down the front of the body 8&unctional channel9$ through the .ui 0in point and up the spine
8-o!erning channel9$ to the center of the head. Imagine the white mist filling the head. 8This is commonly
referred to as the Microcosmic orbit9. 4ow$ !isuali?e the white Mist turn blue$ then indigo blue and begin
rotating clockwise. /s the Mist rotates see it turn to 1iolet. In the 1iolet %ight'Mist !isuali?e the Dumo 8see it
as golden9. During the attunement$ blow the Dumo #ymbol and 1iolet breath into the studentMs crown
3hakra and imagine the #ymbol mo!ing into the base of the brain as you say the name of the symbol in
your mind.
PART III - The Attunement
There are many attunement methods. I personally ha!e in my possession o!er a do?en "sui attunements$
at least four traditional attunements 8all different9$ "sui'Tibetan attunements$ Tibetan'"sui attunements$
#hort forms$ and others.
What follows is an attunement set from the Tibetan tradition using the four "sui #ymbols and the Dumo$
&ire #erpent and Raku. It uses a standard form for all three le!els. This is offered here for your re!iew. /s
in all things$ use the attunement that resonates best with you. #ome people are not comfortable using
attunements other than from their Reiki tradition and lineage$ and that is fine. My lineage is so con!oluted$
that I would be hard pressed to pick one that is more important than all the others. If you ha!e not yet picked
it up$ I am one of those attunement ;unkies who really really likes recei!ing attunements. I ha!e had a lot of
them. / real lot and in a lot of different traditions.
Reiki Tibetan/Usui Attunement
This attunement process that I de!eloped. It was originally from the Tibetan'"sui Tradition but felt
incomplete to me as it did not place the symbols in the heart but only the 3rown$ Third+eye$ and palm
chakras. It is used for all three le!els. The modifications for le!el II and le!el III are in parenthesis.
Draw the (ower #ymbol on your palms$ 3rown and .eart 3hakras$ intending them to open to the Reiki
#ource and %ight. 3leanse the room by drawing all si: Reiki #ymbols in the air in front of you 8four "sui
#ymbols along with the Dumo and &ire #erpent9.This not only can clease the room but sets the tone for the
beginning as a sacred e!ent. 3ontract the .ui 0in and hold it throughout the attunement. 8Do not fret if you
cannot$ it will still work!9

3urrent Issues In The Reiki 3ommunity
#ome of you may wonder why I am addressing Issues of reiki. This is because there is much going on in
the Reiki world today. Reiki is e:panding$ growing$ and de!eloping. In any endea!or$ there are always
growing pains. #ome of these issues are contentious$ but they summari?e what is going on in the Reiki

RAI!I ALLIA%3A - 2RA%MASTAR/LI%AA2A @AARAR
The Reiki /lliance was formed in 5HGB after Mrs. Takata died. /t that time there were BB Masters Takata
had trained in the western world. &rom what they knew$ Reiki was not practiced in ;apan after the death of
Mr. .ayashi and World War II. They belie!ed themsel!es the last masters in the world. The group met$ and
Mrs. (hyllis &urumoto$ Mrs. Takata)s -randdaughter emerged as the leader of the group. Mrs. 2arbara
Weber Ray$ another of Takata)s masters$ did not attend. 8#he stated that Takata had re!ealed to her the
secret techni, ues and named her successor. #he started a style called Real Reiki and later changed that
to the Radiance Techni,ue9
When Mrs. Takata died$ she named no successor. (hyllis assumed that role$ at the urging of the other
masters$ following in the footsteps of her grandmother. >!er the years$ (hyllis has mo!ed from leading the
Reiki /lliance to claiming to be the %ineage 2earer$ holding the spiritual lineage$ and -randMaster of
Reiki. Takata did not name a successor$ nor was she referred to as the lineage bearer or grandmaster 8she
did not refer to herself in this manner9. It is my opinion that Takata did not name a successor because one
was not needed. That itself was the message. It is also my opinion that (hyllis is certainly the head of the
/lliance$ but not more than that. It is hard for her to substantiate the claim of lineage bearer$ when we know
conclusi!ely that 3hu7iro .ayashi was not "sui)s chosen successor. It now seems that Mr. .ayashi was not
e!er a member or the -akkai 8"sui)s Reiki Ryoho organi?ation in ;apan9. The "sui #hiki Reiki Ryoho
-akkai has had fi!e presidents of the society since "sui)s death$ none of whom were Mr. .ayashi. This is
not to down play Mr. .ayashi)s great contributions to Reiki who almost certainly de!eloped the hand
positions in use in the West today as well as the attunements$ but 3hu7iro .ayashi was a well respected
disciple of Dr. "sui$ not the lineage bearer.
The Reiki /lliance has a number of core beliefs and practices that they follow for pricing$ content of courses$
and discriminatory guidelines for who can be taught the master le!el and under what circumstances. Their
current pricing is N5D6.66 "# for %e!el I$ ND66.66 "# for %e!el II$ and N56$666.66 "# for Master'Teacher
%e!el. There are generally no scholarships or lowered rates for Reiki III or any other degree are offered$ nor
are any payment plans allowed. The Master student is also re,uired to apprentice with the Master for a
period of at least one year$ and once he or she begins to teach$ it must be under the Master)s super!ision$
who recei!es all class fees. / new master must apprentice with their Teacher for one year. They must not
make any new masters for three years. /dditionally$ they un,uestionably acknowledge Mrs. Takata$ and
(hyllis &urumoto as the -rand Master of Reiki. They follow the practices of Mrs. Takata dogmatically$ and
the price for mastership is N56$666.
The N56$666 price was used by Mrs. Takata to ensure that only those most committed to Reiki would
achie!e the master le!el. I ha!e heard it stated that Mrs. Takata belie!ed that the people in the West did
"$
not appreciate what they recei!e free. .owe!er$ it is important to note here that Takata did not always
charge for training or treatments.
In the traditional "sui .istory$ "sui healed beggars in the slums in Tokyo who reportedly came back time
and again. They did not appreciate their healing and thus he !owed ne!er to gi!e it away free again. This
story is used as part of a 7ustification of ha!ing others pay$ and pay dearly for learning. What now appears to
be the case with this story$ is that "sui did in reality work with those in Tokyo$ following the earth, uake there
and he offered healing to many$ which spread the knowledge of Reiki throughout ;apan and enhanced
greatly his reputation as a healer. This would tend to take away the emphesis about money in the traditional
story$ as well as the emphesis on e:changes. The irony is that Mrs. Takata told this story to illustrate that
some people hold on to their illness and that some people refuse to change.
/nother issue to be addressed is the idea of e:changes or energy e:changes. This is a new age
concept added in post Takata. This was ne!er a part of "sui Reiki. The idea behind the energy
e:change$ is that when you recei!e Reiki$ it is a great gift and thus there must be some energy e:change
in order to satisfy "ni!ersal %aw. /long with this reasoning is that to those in the West$ money is what is
truly !alued and thus it must be a great sum of money 8i.e.$ N56$6669. This to me seems a 7ustification to
charge a high fee.
It is my opinion that this philosophy of energy e:changes unnecessary I find the idea of energy
e:changes and the philosophy behind them somewhat odd. The uni!erse maintains it)s own balance$ it is
ego that leads us to think that we ha!e such importance in the cosmic scheme of things that we must
balance things.
In looking at the teachings of ;esus$ or 2uddha$ we do not see the idea that e:changes must be done to
repay acts of kindness that we do. ;esus tells us that if someone takes our shirt to gi!e our cloak as well$
not if they take our cloak to make sure we get their shoes......
/ny act of kindness effects many many people$ far beyond our ability to see or know. Who is to say that
something I do today will not effect many others through that person. /re energy e:changes met and
satisfied thenI I offer this ca!eat$ do whate!er you do with no strings attached$ no e:pectations on the
beha!ior of the other and you will ne!er go wrong. #urely if =nergy =:changes were so important to the
balance$ then at least one of the great spiritual leaders would ha!e mentioned it.......

Many of these styles and techni, ues are wonderful additions for a healer to ha!e in their arsenal of effecti!e

Recently in the Western World$ we ha!e been lucky that &rank (etter and .iroshi Doi ha!e been releasing

/ Reiki Master is a person that has learned the "sui #ystem of 4atural .ealing. It is someone that knows all

something that cheapens their accomplishments. &or those that paid dearly for the training and spent years

is interesting to note that this e:act problem is going on in the academic world. Those with (h.D)s are

In "sui)s Reiki Ryoho$ the le!el of energy that you could channel was important. Reiki Ryoho used two
different scales. >ne was a scale from E to 5 8one being highest9 indicating the energy le!el of the person.

TRAAMAR! / LABS
In 5HHF$ (hyllis &urumoto and the Reiki /lliance attempted to Trademark the words Reiki$ and "sui #hiki

and they wanted to make sure the public knew the difference and a trade mark would allow them to be able
to determine what was "sui #hiki Ryoho. >thers in the Reiki 3ommunity 8the !ast ma7ority of practitioners
and masters are 4>T alliance members9 felt this was a usurpation of their ability to use the word Reiki$ and
an attempt to control the practice of Reiki. There was a lot of bad blood in the community following this act.
#ome e:pressed the attitude that the /lliance saw their power base and control slipping through others
offering reduced rate Masterships. The /lliance$ for its part$ did not help the situation by ha!ing statements
on Mrs. &urumoto)s website 8http*''www.furumoto.org'9 in letters that masters charging less than N56$666
were creating a deficit economy and implying that charging less than the full 56$666 would result in
incomplete energy and less than perfect attunements. /lthough the trademark attempt failed because the
word Reiki had been in the public domain for o!er D6 years in this country$ the ill will that the attempt
generated continues to this day.
#e!eral groups ha!e attempted to pass laws regulating the practice of Reiki in se!eral states. The most
current attempts were in Te:as$ 4ew 0ork and &lorida. In Te:as$ the legislation was crafted so that only
members of the Reiki /lliance and Reiki Touch 8and those trained by /lliance masters9 could be considered
Reiki Masters under law. It also set specific fees for training 856$666 dollars for the Master le!el9 and se!ere
penalties for !iolating the law. /s of this writing it was fiercely opposed and most likely will fail. /lthough the
/lliance denied in!ol!ement in the Te:as law$ their name being named on the legislation did nothing to help
the already contentious atmosphere in the Reiki 3ommunity. In 4ew 0ork$ the board of Massage therapists$
tried to legislate Reiki under the auspices of the Massage therapy 2oard and %aws. /fter witnessing a
demonstration of Reiki$ the board decided that Reiki was not massage and dropped the legislati!e attempt.

In many of the Reiki books a!ailable today$ there is talk about meeting your Reiki -uides$ seeing auras and
angels$ increases in your psychic abilities and a whole host of others abilities that the author states followed
an attunement. Indeed$ some people do e:perience these things. .owe!er it needs to be pointed out that
none of these things were in the original system by "sui. "sui was a contemporary of Morihei Tanaka.
Tanaka created a healing art that used spirits in healing called Dai Rei ;itsu. #ince we know that Tanaka
had these practices$ in Reiki they are conspicuous by there absense. >ne can only conclude that since
"sui knew Tanaka and his practices that they are absent from Reiki because they are not part of the

time. #he asked .ayashi about it when he !isited her in .awaii. .e asked her$ Do you want to be a psychic

psychic abilities$ when they are R=/D0 to recei!e them. ;ust as an attunement will not make me a

Mudras in Reiki and 7ealing
>n these (ages you will find information on Mudras and some of the Raku Kai Mudras. #ome of you might
be wondering why I am choosing to include these Mudras here on a site about Reiki. The answer to that is
both simple and comple:. / short while back$ I learned that there were Mudras used in Raku Kai Reiki.
0ou can !iew these by clicking this link. There are also mudras used in Karuna Ki. To 1iew these$ click the
link below.
Raku Kai Reiki Mudras
Karuna Ki Mudras 8for .ealing and #trengthening the channel9
In my martial arts training$ I had seen these hand positions and been taught them some 5F years
pre!iously. When I was taught them$ it was not necessarily in the conte:t of healing$ but in the conte:t of
inner culti!ation and energy work and de!elopment. >nce I learned that they were part of Raku Kai Reiki$ I
began to ree!aluate my knowledge of these positions and to apply them in healing as they were used in
Raku Kai Reiki.
>f particular interest to me was that the first four hand positions 8Rin$ Kyo$ Toh$ #ha9 seemed to ha!e the
same meanings as the four traditional Reiki #ymbols and I ha!e speculated that their might be some
connection.
These three hand positions used in Raku Kai Reiki are part of a larger set known as the Ku7i+in or 4ine
.ands 3utting$ or 3utting the 4ine Ideographs. They were also referred to as the #hu7i #huriken. They
were used to de!elop your mental abilities$ your ability to control and use energy$ and to increase one)s Ki$
and for protection. These Mudras are seen not only in ;apan$ but also in 3hinese Taoist practices and
.indu and Tibetan Tantra. In ;apan$ the practice of cutting the nine ideographs was taken up by yin+yang
practitioners$ some 2uddhists$ #amurai$ and nin7a. #ome swordsmen and nin7a performed it in the morning
after arising or before combat or engaging and enemy.
=ach Mudra was performed with meditation$ breathing and in in!ocation'mantra. The mantras are included
with the information on the .and (ositions. The entire set of made up of nine cuts. / grid was sometimes

The entire set was sometimes called the ;umon 1ow The !ow was the mantras Rin$ Kyo$ Toh$ #ha$ Kai$
;in$ Retsu$ <ai$ <en. In the <ai section there is a discussion of how all these fit together to form a
complete pattern and path to enlightenment.
The links below will take you to the pages with pictures of the Ku7i Kiri. Included are the mantras that are
spoken when using the position as well as two !iews of the picture.
It is important to state here that it is imperati!e that the mental focus be correct. This is more important than
ha!ing e:act finger positions. That being said$ the hand positions line up and direct the energy in the body.
The hands represent a microcosm of the elemental relationship of the uni!erse. The meridians terminate in
the hands and taking the Mudras helps a practitioner to direct the flow of energy in the body along these
channels.
=ach cut represents one of the 4ine le!els of power. 0our understanding of this will change with time and
practice. This is something that is learned by doing and the significance of each will increase with time and
effort.

It is easiest to learn these once at a time. In practice and application they are done one after the other$
acti!ating each channel and energy. The practice of doing this is best done with meditation and
contemplating the meaning of each cut indi!idually. The meaning of each will !ary with each student)s
understanding and time spent using the cut. With practice and insight$ and a pure heart the meaning will
deepen and increase o!er time. Its applications will also become more apparent.
To get the most benefit from these acti!ities$ using breathing techni, ues and meditation is necessary. This
will be added shortly. When using the Mudra$ focus on where you feel the pulse in the hands.
Raku !ei Reiki Mudras
These are the Raku Kai Mudras. The origin is suspected to be from /urthur Robertson. Included is the
Mudra$ a brief description and the name as it would by used from other sources.
!anEi Position F" - S7A
(osition R5 is the fingers interlaced with the two inde: fingers e:tended and placed together. 3oncentrate
on the point where you feel the pulse$ usually where the finger tips touch. 4ote the position of the thumbs$
they are not crossed. This was used for spiritual healing. It was also used to cause distant healing. It was
taught that this was done before any type of Reiki healing session. It was thought to bring spiritual energy
into the channels in the body.
This position is called #./ in other systems. It is used to balance the energy in the body$ and de!elop the
hea!enly chi and spiritual power. It was used to heal self and others. This was done in con7unction with a
meditation that focused on seeing the bodily fire and connecting to the fire of the uni!erse. This would
seem analogous to the Reiki Dai Ko Mio symbol in application of bringing in the spiritual light and healing.
!anEi Position F$ - RI%
(osition RB is the fingers interlaced with the two middle fingers e:tended and tips touching. 4ote the
position of the thumbs which are crossed. This was used to increase the efficacy of a hands on healing
session.and to promote balance. It was thought to help connect to the power and energy and allow it to flow
more readily in the channels.
This position is called RI4 in other systems. Rin is to help connect to the power or energy of the uni!erse
8cosmic energy9 and increase the power in the body. It is interesting that in Raku Kai that this position was
chosen for this. It would seemingly be analogous to the intent of the 3ho Ku Rei symbol in function.
!anEi Position F( - 1I%
(osition RC is the fingers folded inward and all interconnecting. The thumbs cross and also are inward to
the palm. It was described in Raku Kai as bringing knowing. It facilitates a connection to the subconscious
mind of the client and helps correct imbalances in the client.
This position is called ;I4 in other systems. It was thought to help you Know the thoughts of others. It
increased the empathic abilities and increased the ability to feel the thoughts of others. /t the highest le!el
one could sense others thoughts and feelings as well as hide your own thoughts$ feeling and intent. It is
unclear why this would ha!e been included in Raku Kai as there is no similarity to any of the Reiki #ymbols
or practices.
Karuna Ki Mudras
There are two mudras used in Karuna Ki. Kai is used for de!eloping intuition in treating. #ha is used to
de!elop and strengthen the Karuna Ki 3hannel and bring about health$ clarity of mind and purpose$ and the

This is a meditation using the #ha Mudra to help de!elop and
strengthen the Karuna Ki 3hannel. This is taught to all Karuna Ki

3onsistent practice clears and focuses the mind and helps one to
culti!ate compassion toward all beings.
This Mudra is called #ha in ;apanese. It is also used in Taoism$
some Tibetan arts$ and in 4in7utsu. #ha is used for .ealing of #elf and

that those that mastered the Inner connections using #ha would

other afflictions. In this mudra the inde: fingers and thumbs are

Scanning and Mudras
Karuna Ki uses two different scanning methods to determine areas needing treatment$ hand scanning and
the Karuna Ki #canning Method.
7and Scanning + This is the traditional #canning techni,ue taught in Karuna$ and other #ystems. #canning
is placing your hands into the energy or auric field of another to try to discern differences in their energy
field. 0ou are essentially looking for anything different. Try to feel for hot spots$ cold spots$ tingling
sensations$ obstructions. #tart at the head and work to the feet and then back up.

increase the distance to about E inches 85A centimeters9. #canning is something that re,uires a great deal
of practice to become proficient at. 8Remember$ you do not diagnose since that is illegal to do in most
places without a medical license!9 This is a tool to aid in treating. Make a mental note of the areas that feel
different. /sk your client if there is any specific illness associated with the area. This process is done to find
areas that need additional treatment. This also is done to guide hand placement which is more intuiti!e in
Karuna Ki.
!aruna !i Scanning Method + This is the scanning method de!eloped by 1ince /mador for Karuna Ki. It
incorporates a hand position or Mudra and uses the third eye to help de!elop the intuition to find areas that
need treating.
The abo!e Mudra is called Kai in ;apanese. It is also used in some Tibetan arts$ Taoist practices and in
4in7utsu. Kai is used for breaking the bonds of passions and desires$ the premonition of danger$ sensing
energy around you$ and inner knowing. It was said that the Taoist master that achie!ed Kai would know
what can not be known. It is only when our minds are clear and we ha!e stilled our thoughts that we can
sense clearly all around us. Kai is an acti!ation of the psychic sense which allows us to see beyond sight.
In this mudra the fingers are all interlocked.

!aruna !i
Introduction and Overview
Karuna Ki is an art that I de!eloped from my practices with Karuna and the Karuna #ymbols. Karuna Ki is
the Way of 3ompassionate =nergy and a .ealing and Meditati!e practice using the Karuna Ki energy and
symbols to be the Di!ine .eart of 3ompassion.
The .istory of Karuna Ki tries to be balanced in its understanding of how the Karuna arts came to be$ and
tries to gi!e due credit to those who in!ested time and effort in its de!elopment. Karuna Ki represents my
de!elopment and practice with the Karuna$ the symbols$ Karuna Ki Do meditations and other practices.
Karuna Ki shares the symbols and early de!elopment with Karuna ReikiS$ and Tera MaiT Reiki. Karuna
Ki has new attunements and Karuna Ki Do meditations$ and is a new de!elopment apart from either Karuna
ReikiS and Tera MaiT Reiki. The basic principle of Karuna Ki is the connection to 8and becoming9 the
embodiment of compassion both for healing self and others$ and to send healing and compassion to all
creation. The attunement and subse, uent meditations link us to the compassion of -od 8which we all
already are and ha!e!9$ and it is through this power that we heal. During the healing we stri!e to reflect
compassion and lo!e not only to those we heal$ but to all creation. &or those uncomfortable with the use of
-od$ this principle is reflected wonderfully in the 2uddhist -oddess of 3ompassion$ Kuan 0in 8Kannon in
;apanese9. This is a heart centered compassion and a heart centered healing. It is sharing in the
compassion of -od$ or the compassion of Kuan 0in for all the uni!erse. It is only in this perfect lo!e that
one is truly healed.
Similarities and i''erences to other !aruna Arts and Systems
Karuna Ki e!ol!ed from other Karuna arts. #imilarities include that it shares the #ymbols <onar$ .alu$
.arth$ Rama$ -nosa$ Kriya$ #hanty$ Ia!a$ >m$ &ire #erpent$ and the Tibetan Master #ymbol.
Karuna ReikiS uses a process of A attunements. In reality there are only B attunements. There is a Karuna
I and a Karuna II attunement. When learning Karuna (ractitioner %e!el I$ you recei!e the first of the two
attunements. When you learn Karuna (ractitioner %e!el II$ you recei!e the second attunement. When you
learn the two master le!els$ you recei!e the same attunements again with the intent that they be master
attunements this time. In Tera MaiT Reiki$ there are three attunements. These are %e!el I$ %e!el II$ and
Master %e!el. There is also a Water ceremony and a 0od initiation.
"9
Karuna Ki is !ery different. It has a two faceted attunement system. &or those who are already Reiki or
#eichim Masters$ there is a #ingular Karuna Ki Master /ttunement that attunes you to all the symbols to the
Master le!el in one attunement. &or those with less than master energy work$ there is a three le!eled
attunement system. The theoretical underpinnings of this are discussed in more depth in the attunement
section of this manual.
It should be noted that I do not claim anything supernatural or mystic in de!eloping this Karuna Ki system
or these attunement processes. They do not come from /scendant Masters$ 3hanneled beings$ from -od
or anything else. They come from a human being who studied carefully the process$ how it worked and
what was necessary for it to work. These practices de!eloped naturally out of my practices. These days$
there are many claims by some systems being higher fre, uency$ faster healing and better than "sui
Reiki. It must be noted that the Karuna Ki #ystem makes none of these claims. Karuna Ki is offered as a
healing art and spiritual practice. 4o other claims are made than that. /s the founder of this style of Karuna
Ki$ I acknowledge that meditation and practice of any energy system or art has the effect of increasing your
capacity to handle energy as well as your own personal !ibration. That includes consistent practice with

The !aruna !i System - Trademarks/ Registrations and 3ontrols
The Karuna Ki #ystem respects the traditional sanctity of the Teacher and #tudent Relationship$ which has
stood the test of time for centuries. It is my belief that the healing and teaching relationship should be an
indi!idual relationship free of outside controls$ conflicting loyalties$ and other re,uirements. This is the case
with the !ast ma7ority of the Independent "sui Reiki Masters. /s such$ the Karuna Ki system is offered as
an alternati!e. The Karuna Ki system is free of trademarks$ registrations$ conflicting loyalties and e:ternal
controls. It is a system$ like "sui Reiki$ that is for e!eryone. Teachers of this system are free to add
material as they see fit to address the needs of their indi!idual students.
This manual is 3opyright by 1incent /mador 5HHH. It is offered for Karuna Ki Teachers to use$ without
obligation$ with the e:ception that if it is used in a class as a student manual that it is gi!en in its entirety.
Karuna Ki Teachers are always free to use their own materials$ de!elop their own materials$ establish
whate!er re,uirements for certification that they wish for their indi!idual students and teach howe!er they
choose. Those who are Karuna Masters from other Karuna traditions finding themsel!es disinfranchised
due to registration issues are welcome to practice Karuna Ki$ and free to use the name for their practice. It
is not trademarked and open to all. The manual is a resource for all to use. It will be updated regularly.
Karuna Ki Do Meditations
In Karuna Ki Do Meditations$ there are four types of meditations. >f primary importance in the Karuna Ki
#ystem is the meditation to strengthen and de!elop the 3hannel. There are also meditations to e:pand the
oneness of the lo!ing heart centered compassion and to share it with all the uni!erseL meditations with the
symbolsL and Toning in mediitation.
The first type of Karuna Ki Meditation$ is an acti!ity that uses a mudra 8hand positon9 and specific breathing
to focus on strengthening the healing channel$ increasing the personal chi$ and healing the self. In
con7unction with the attunements$ it forms the basis of the system and transmission of the energy.
3onsistent practice clears and focuses the mind and helps one to culti!ate compassion toward all beings.
The second type is to meditate on the 3ompassionate energy that is Karuna Ki and to use that to e:pand
your awareness. The meditation also allows you to e:pand your compassionate awareness to all the
uni!erse.
The third type of Karuna Ki Do Meditation is with the symbols. Meditation with the Karuna #ymbols can help
to de!elop the connection with the symbols and thus the connection to the 3ompassionate .eart that is the
basis of this system. There are many ways to meditate on the symbols. The simplest is to use a meditation
that you already use and to draw the symbols before you$ concentrate on the connection to the energy and
contemplate the indi!idual meaning of the symbol.
The fourth practice in Karuna Ki Do Meditation$ is using Toning. This practice can be used in either of the
first type of Karuna Ki Do Meditation$ to change or enhance the effects.
#pecific e:ercises are listed below. These are my practices. Trust in yourself and your intuition.
=:periement and see if these work for you. 3onsistent practice is the key. To do these Karuna Ki Do
Meditations$ use guidelines that anyone doing meditation of any sort might follow. -et yourself into a
comfortable position. #itting in a comfortable chair that allows your spine to be erect is good. (lacing your
hands on your lap and ha!ing your feet comfortably touch the floor generally works well. Rela:ing the body
using some deep breathing$ or muscular rela:ation can sometimes help. /s with all meditation$ if your mind
wanders while meditating$ allow the thoughts to slip away$ paying them no mind$ and gently refocus. .a!ing
done that$ breathe slow and deep$ shut your eyes and focus on the feeling of lo!e and compassion.
#ometimes it helps to allow that sensation to begin in your palms. /llow the Karuna Ki Do to pour into you
and intend that it do so. Remember that the feeling of this system is one of total compassion and lo!e in the
oneness of all creation. %et your mind stay on this sensation and feeling. 4ow allow the lo!ing and
compassionate feel of the #ource to be with you as the energy flows into you. #tay with this feeling for a
time and then when you are ready$ you can begin to meditate on the symbols.

This is a meditation using the #ha Mudra to help de!elop and strengthen the
Karuna Ki 3hannel. This practice is one of the most basic skills in Karuna Ki
and is fundamental in culti!ating both mental clarity$ health and compassion.
This is taught to all Karuna Ki #tudents and they are strongly ecouraged to
practice this daily. 3onsistent practice clears and focuses the mind and helps
one to culti!ate compassion toward all beings.

Tonin Meditation
This fourth practice of Karuna Ki Do Meditation is to add the toning and chanting aspects of
Karuna Ki healing into the meditati!e practice. Meditation techni, ues such
are Transcendental Meditation$ (raying the Rosary$ the Tibetan >m Mani (adme

symbols names as mantras when performing Karuna Ki Do
Meditation >ne or Two. #ome possible combinations might be

!aruna !i Symbols
0ou can use the Karuna Ki symbols 7ust like using the "sui Reiki symbols. They can be drawn at the
beginning of a session to gain rapport with the Karuna$ they can be drawn on the palms prior to healing$ or
they can be drawn on the person recei!ing helaing. The names of the symbols can be chanted or in+toned

these issues and our humanity. %astly it is used for dimensional access. In Karuna Ki$
the specific techni,ue for using <onar is to connect to the lo!ing compassionate
energy of the di!ine source which is infinite$ and use this infinite lo!e for healing.
&alu

by #ai baba during a meditation. .alu means lo!e$ truth$and beauty. It can also mean harmony. It is
supposed to be a deeper ray of healing. This symbol is an amplification of <onar. To draw this$ the < is

In Karuna Ki$ there are no specific hand positions as in "sui Reiki. When using Karuna Ki for healing$ a
more intuiti!e apporach is used. Techni, ues such as scanning 8sensing for changes in the recipient)s
energy field9 are used. /dditionally$ the practitioner of Karuna Ki is encouraged to use their own intuition by
placing their hands where they are guided. In a typical treatment using Karuna Ki$ I generally do the first
four "sui .ead positions. 4e:t$ I will perform scanning to sense for any changes in the energy field and
treat those. %astly$ I will allow myself to place my hands where they are guided to anyplace that might be in
need of treatment. In contrast$ you can use the standard "sui Reiki hand positions and this will work nicely
as well. 8To !iew different sets of hand positions$ !isit the %e!el I Reiki Manual on this site. &or more

Using the Symbols in Treatments
Described here is one possible use of the symbols in healing. There are as many different uses as you can
create. 4ecessity and intuition are wonderful teachers. &irst use <onar. <onar is a deep healing symbol
that connects to the infinite. It it cleansing. It also can help resol!e issues left undone from relationships$
acti!ities$ situations 8and'or li!esI9. .alu 8like #ei .ei Ki9 helps release and break up negati!e patterns and
emotional difficulties and beliefs that keep us from seeing reality as it truly is. .arth is the principle symbol
of the Karuna Ki system and is the symbol of lo!ing compassion. "se is and let the compassion that is this

connects us from the source through to the earth. It is both grounding and clearing. "se #hanty ne:t$ to
help release the past$ and to focus on li!ing harmoniously in the moment$ and to release the futures we
create for oursel!es. &inally use >m to bring in wholeness into the life of the client$ and to clean$ stabili?e
and seal the aura.
This is one possible se,uence. /nother possibility is to simply focus on the Karuna Ki energy and let it flow
and allow the energy to direct the session. This is the highest le!el of practice. We simply be and allow
the energy to flow with intuition as our guide.
Toning the Symbols in Treatments
The symbol names can be chanted or toned when performing a healing. 1isuali?e the symbol in your mind
and write it on your palms. #ee it clearly in gold. Then say the name of the symbol. This is partly an
intuiti!e process where you 7ust let it out. It is thought that the sound helps intensify the effect of the
healing energy and dri!e it to deeper le!el. >ne small word of ad!ise...... .ealing sessions are often times
of great rela:ation for people$ and times when people entered altered states. Make sure what you are doing
is not a distraction that interferes with the healing session.
There are times when you want to Tone$ but doing so might be distracting or inappropriate to the situation.
In these cases$ focus on the third eye. #ay the symbol name 8mantra9 in your mind. Think of saying it with
such resonance and power that it tra!els to the end of the uni!erse and beyond towards infinity. Resonate
the sound in your mind$ through your hands$ and into the person you are treating.

4o matter what style of Reiki that one practices$ it is almost a truism that all find it to be a spiritual practice. It
is commonly said that Reiki integrates with all spiritual practices$ but it is often unclear what e:actly that
means. This article will e:plore the idea or spirituality and Reiki by looking at what the system was intended
to do and the symbols.
Reiki Ryoho
Reiki Ryoho or Reiho was the art that "sui practiced. This art continues to be practiced in ;apan$ in an
unbroken line since "sui$ in the "sui Reiki Ryoho -akkai. In the past two years$ information has been
trickling out of ;apan regarding the practices of the -akkai. These ha!e been turbulent times in the Reiki
world in the west as this has had the effect of challenging many people)s beliefs about Reiki. &or some$ it
has allowed them to ree!aluate their practices and learn new techni, ues$ while for others it has caused
them to dig in their heels and hold more tightly to what they know.
Reiho was a simple system. It was primarily a secular enlightenment system that also allowed you to heal.
0ou healed self$ and then others. It comprised of &i!e (rinciples that were the core of the teaching 8&or
today only do not anger$ do not worry$ be grateful$ do your spiritual work with appreciation$ be kind to all
li!ing things9. %i!ing the principles were paramount for staying in the moment and healing the mind. "sui
also included the Waka poetry of the Mei7i =mperor. The poetry was chanted before meditation to help clear
the mind and set the intent. There were a number of simple techni, ues to use for self and other healing.
.atsurei .o was a meditation techni,ue that strengthened the body and mind as well as helped increase
the ability to use the reiki. Rei7u was the empowerment 8attunement9 that was recei!ed weekly in a group
.atsurei ho practice that empowered the students to reiki and helped them continue to grow. %astly$ the
symbols were added in to aid those that had difficulty connecting directly to the energy. This was the Reiki
system. / simple elegant system. %et us now mo!e to e:ploring the spiritual and healing aspects.
Anlightenment System
It is impossible to fully understand the intent and design of these practices without looking at the time and
mindset in which "sui li!ed. In doing so$ we must mo!e past our conditionings$ new age+isms$ and other
present day thoughts and ideas so that we a!oid reading history backwards with our present !iews.
&irst and foremost$ "sui was un,uestionably 2uddhist. The Teaching story that Mrs. Takata used with "sui
as a 3hristian Monk was a story that was used to teach westerners unfamiliar with ;apanese 2uddhist and
$)
culture the idea that "sui was a seeker in a religious sense. It was an effecti!e teaching tool$ which
unfortunately became dogmati?ed. 8 There are ideas that are common to a culture that are unspoken and
simply understood. /n e:ample of this is the idea of the /merican Dream + to get ahead. These unspoken
parts of the ;apanese cultural mindset are difficult to communicate to those not familiar with the culture and
so Mrs. Takata tried to use western ideas to teach reiki principles.9
"sui was a #hingon 2uddhist growing up and became a Tendai 2uddhist later in life. /s such$ there are
certain ideas about the world that are part of his system. Reiki e:emplifies the principle of wei wu wei$
doing by not doing. 2y doing nothing$ e!erything is done. Reiki is a simple practice. We place our hands on
someone and by doing nothing 8no controlling$ no directing$ 7ust 2=ing9 e!erything is done. The principles
teach keeping the now$ and awareness. It takes mindfulness to not anger and not worry. It takes
mindfulness to be grateful$ and to be kind to all li!ing things.
%ooking at the symbols he chose to place in the system also are keys to this enlightenment system. %et us
now e:amine these symbols and the possible implications of them. "nlike the multitude of also ran systems
that ha!e de!eloped in the west since the death of Mrs. Takata$ the "sui system had only A symbols$ and it
is fairly clear that they were added fairly late in the de!elopment of the system. They seemed to be added in
as a tool for those who had trouble connecting to the energy directly.
The first symbol is the 3ho Ku Rei$ the so+called power symbol$ also called the &ocus. It says place the
power here. It is an edict to do so$ but something much more is implied. It is also an edict to wake up. In
the oneness you are and always ha!e been this$ interconnected with all things and one. It is an in!itation to
awaken$ to remember by releasing the things that blind us to our true nature.
The second symbol is the #ei .ei Ki$ or the so+called mental+emotional symbol. It is the .armony
symbol. In the oneness that is 3ho Ku Rei$ #ei .ei Ki heals body mind and spirit. It cleanses and heals by
helping us to remo!e the attatchments we ha!e that create our suffering and thus our illness. The third
symbol is the .on #ha <e #ho 4en$ often called the distant symbol but also the connection symbol. It
is from a 2uddhist 3hant that means Right consciousness is the root of e!erything or / righteous man
may correct all thoughts$ or To act in the Reali?ation of /bsolute 2eingness. 2ut what might that mean$
Right consciousnessI This is clearly a 2uddhist idea. Right consciousness is being fully in the moment$
fully in the now. It is acting$ not reacting. This is an important distinction. Reacting is based on our ego$ our
conditionings. >ur conditionings are the cause of our suffering and our illness. It is only by letting go and
remo!ing our conditionings that we are free to be in the moment$ to respond$ and ultimately to heal. The last
symbol is the Dai Ko Mio$ or the so+called mastery symbol. The symbol is the great shining light. The
goal is Reiho is to li!e in the great shining light. The pre!ious three symbols are the key$ the last is the
reali?ation. (erhaps putting them all together into a sentence might help. We are one with all things$ in this
oneness we heal body mind and spirit. In right consciousness we release attatchments and conditionings so
we li!e in the moment of the great shining light. The symbols are a tool. They are a roadmap. They are
training wheels on a bicycle that are used while needed by remo!ed$ 8like all conditionings9 when no longer
needed. Do not mistake the map for the 7ourney$ or the destination.
6ther Issues - %e0 Systems/ AGtra Symbols/ Reiki as a @usiness
/fter reading all of this$ there are three ,uestions that you may now be asking* :ou 'ay $e askin!% if Reiki
is suh a si'/le syste'% why is it that others have develo/ed so 'any new syste's;
:ou 'ay $e askin!% if Reiki is suh a si'/le syste'% why is it that others have added and ontinue to add
new sy'$ols; :ou 'ay $e askin!% if Reiki is an enli!hten'ent syste' that allows one to heal self and
others% why is it that others have turned it into a $usiness; It would seem$ that people often ha!e an insight
into the system after using it consistently for any length of time. #ome might confuse this insight with a
new idea regarding Reiki and thus belie!e they ha!e de!eloped a new system.
%ikewise$ seeing new symbols is nothing e:traordinary. #acred geometry is older than (ythagoras$ and
common to many esoteric and spiritual practices. Most of these symbols ha!e a specific meaning to the
person !iewing them and do not constitute a new system. Most of these new systems with e:tra symbols
are simply reiki with e:tra symbols despite the claims of the proponents of the systems.
#till others ha!e added in techni, ues from other things like space aliens$ ancient ci!ili?ations$ 3elestine
(rophesy$ Wicca$ Tibetan practices$ /scended Masters$ etc.
While these may ha!e some interest for some$ I am forced to ask a fundamental ,uestion* Remembering
that Reiho was a secular enlightenment system that allowed you to heal self and then others$ do these
things increase the conditionings that you ha!e or help remo!e themI
Remember that symbols were a tool to be used to aid you in connecting to the energy$ and to guide you but
ones$ like all conditionings that were to be let go of when no longer needed. Does adding e:tra symbols
help or hinder this processI /re we helped by putting in some Tibetan symbols$ or are these simply
additional things to help us stay asleepI &or many these days$ Reiki has turned into a business. This idea$
and position is probably most ad!ocated for by William Rand and his website$ The International 3enter for
Reiki Training$ has many articles regarding setting up your Reiki (ractice$ etc. >thers continue to de!elop
new systems$ %ightarian Reiki$ /scension Reiki$ =ssene Reiki. It is interesting that all claim to be
uni!ersal life energy. #ome of them ha!e different techni, ues. In reality$ the systems are indeed different.
It would seem that what makes them different is not so much the difference in the energy$ but that ha!ing
taken them$ you now ha!e permission to use them differently. They are nothing that you could not ha!e
already done$ and nothing that you did not already ha!e.2usinesses thri!e by continually coming up with
new product. 4ew symbols$ new techni, ues$ new packaging are all part of this process$ as are the e!er
increasing claims of more powerful$ higher !ibrational$ more deeply penetrating$ ascension systems$
and on and on and on.
Summary
In the final analysis$ nothing can free you from the conditioning that cause your suffering e:cept you. 4o
energy system$ no matter how much ascension and enlightenment they promise$ can sa!e you. 4o guru$ no
system can sa!e you. /dding to the conditionings that you ha!e with more and more systems$ symbols and
techni, ues will not either. "sui handed you a key. / key in the form of D simple principles$ a simple
meditation 8.atsurei ho9$ some symbols to guide your understanding$ and a way to share this uni!ersal
unconditional lo!e with others. 0ou are an instrument of blessing. In the moment$ you reach out your hands$
place them on another in a gesture of unconditional lo!e$ and by doing nothing$ e!erything is done. There is
nothing else that is needed. It is my hope that these words will help clarify and open others to a different way
of looking at the system of Reiki that is outside of the 2usiness that it has become.

In'ormation on the Archangels
When we begin the attunement$ we will be 7oining with #hekinah and Metatron$ to balance and work with the
#K.M energy.
"hekinah is the /ngel of "nity and "nconditional %o!e. #he is a female angel who always stays close to
humankind$ inspiring mortals to be 7ust and fair$ bringing balance and harmony to our minds and spiritual
being. .er name means bride of the %ord and she is charged with redeeming us from e!il and leading us
back to -od so that we may be liberated and cleansed in the eternal light.
Metatron is the /ngel of Thought. .is name literally means the throne beside the throne of -od. .e is
considered one of the most important archangels who led the children out of Israel and also stopped
/braham from sacrificing his son$ Isaac. Metatron helps us communicate with -od and brings -od)s
presence to us and opens up our hearts in order to better recei!e this guidance. Responsible for super!ising
the /kashic Records$ a special archi!e where all our thoughts and deeds are recorded upon a screen of
mental essence.
Metatron traditionally is the most powerful angel$ the one closest to god. .is counterpart #hekinah$ is the
feminine. The Tetragrammaton 8unspeakable name of god in hebrew represented by the letters I.1. 80od
.eh 1au .eh9 is a balance of masculine and feminine forces. Metatron and #hekinah are different aspects
of the di!ine as it begins to manifest. Thus the di!ine is neither masculine or feminine but a perfect balance
of both.
The Traditional 5 Archangels
Michael + Michael means who is as -od. .e is an angel of The %ast ;udgment. .e is the Weigher of
souls who decides where people are sent for eternity* to .ea!en$ or to .ell. .e is often described in

the principalities in his role as protector of Israel. Michael is considered to be the angel of the burning bush
through which -od spoke to Moses$ and has also appeared in the book of Daniel$ where -od states him as
being the highest within the angelic ranks. /lthough other angels ha!e been attributed with the title of /ngel

.owe!er$ it is rare that the Koran speaks of /ngels and ;inn in the same sentence$ but often speaks of

children$ nor are they deities. They were created from searing hot$ smokeless fire$ some time before
humans were created from clay. #ince the Koran also states that the /ngels were created from fire$ it would
seem that the D7in and the /ngels are the same kind of beings. /lthough the d7in are considered lesser
(<
beings. The D7in can be good or e!il. There is the legend of #olomon binding the D7in 8i.e.$ in bottles9 and
the grateful e!il D7in granting a wish if they are released.
.owe!er$ it is rare that the Koran speaks of /ngels and ;inn in the same sentence$ but often speaks of
Men and ;inn in one breath. It would seem that the ;inn ha!e a strong interest in consorting with humans$
and especially in helping them to stray from the one+true+-od. 4ot entirely$ though$ as there is at least one
reference to ;inn who are righteous and hear the Word of /llah. With those e:ceptions$ we e:pect that most
humans and most ;inn will get their come+uppance on 7udgement day and they 8we9 will not be pleased
with the results.
In summary$ it would appear that according to the Koran$ the ;inn are a species related to /ngels which
tend to consort with human+kind to the detriment of both. =:ceptions noted.
