Exercise 7.2 - 1
Exercise 7.2 Downloading and Going Online
7.2.1 Description
Check the controller IP address and download an application to a hardware controller.
Monitor a preconfigured function block online and observer the hardware status.
Investigate the Test mode and force some I/O signals.

7.2.2 Legend
> Indicates when you go from one menu to a sub-menu
Italic Indicates object and file names
Indicates dialog box buttons, tabs, menus etc.
Bold Indicates important topics
Indicates start/explanation of student activity

Exercise 7.2 - 2
7.2.3 Exercise Steps

7.2.3.1 Check IP Address of Controller
The IP address of the controller resides in its firmware and is set by using the 800xA
IPConfig software utility. To successfully download an application to the controller,
the contents of two locations (Controller System Identity and Ethernet channel 1) in
the Control Builder project must match this IP address exactly.
F Open the Sxx_PrgProject in Control Builder then expand the Controllers object.
F Right click on SxxPrg_Controller_1 then Properties and then select System
Identity. Confirm that its value matches the IP address of the hardware controller.

F Continue to expand the objects below the controller until the Ethernet channels are
visible.
F Open the editor for 1 Ethernet then confirm the correct IP address entry in the
Settings tab.

Exercise 7.2 - 3

7.2.3.2 Download and Go Online
F Select the Download and Go on Line icon from the Control Builder toolbar.

F Enter a User ID of <engineer> with the correct password in the Reauthenticate
dialog box.
F In the Online analysis dialog box, select SxxPrg_Reactor, then the Cold Restart
All button then Continue.

F Proceed through any additional dialog boxes until the controller is online. You will see
a message You are now online! in the message pane.
NOTE! If you have any problems, ask the instructor for help.

Exercise 7.2 - 4
7.2.3.3 Monitor Programs Online
F Open the TankControl_Prg program editor to expose one function block.

F Try to open SxxPrg_V1 and SxxPrg_V5 (inlet valves) manually from the Reactor
graphic display and observe the changes in the program as well as to AI810 Channel
3 on the PROFIBUS.

7.2.3.4 Observe the Hardware Status
F While still online, expand the controller hardware portion of the Project Explorer.

Exercise 7.2 - 5
Note that hardware can have warnings and errors. Some of these may be
cleared, but others will remain and will not affect future labs.
F Open the editor of each I/O module having a warning and observe the messages in the
Unit Status tab.
F Open the editor for the controller and observe the messages:

F Right click on any module with a warning and select Clear Latched Unit Status.

F Repeat the procedure for the controller. If the source of the warning is still active the
status will not change.
NOTE! If there is an error indicator on PROFIBUS modules,
contact the instructor. Warnings are okay.
7.2.3.5 Force I/O Signals
F Open the editor for the AI810 on the PROFIBUS and select the Status tab.
F Select the Forced box for channel 3 which is the level signal, then type any value in
the yellow field.
F Open the TankControl_Prg program editor and examine the function block LT1 for
the tank level. Explain the results.
F Go to SxxPrg_Reactor and check the global variable gPrg_Tank.

T314-07 Exercise 7.2 - RevE

Exercise 7.2 - 6
F Open the LT1faceplate in the Engineering Workplace and check the forced icon.
Deselect the forced bit and check the HW Editor status for the AI810 again.

7.2.3.6 Use Test Mode
It is sometimes necessary to test programming code before downloading to a
controller. The Test Mode permits program execution in a simulated environment.
F Take the Control Builder offline
F Select the Test Mode icon from the toolbar.

F Proceed through any dialog boxes with Continue until the message Test mode
started appears in the message pane.
F Force the analog value LT1from the HW Editor and check the status in Control
Builder and on the faceplate. Is there any difference?
NOTE! In test mode, the real controller doesnt get the forcing
command and the faceplate takes the values from the
OPC server i.e. from the running controller.
F Put the Control Builder back in the offline mode.
