Sculpture assessment criteria: Cardboard Shoe

Design/ Planning 25% Design Drawing 25% Problem Solving and Making 35% Understanding and Attitude 15%
Students should demonstrate:

An ability to choose an
environment.
To express his/ herself verbally,
stating ideas on design brief.

An ability to brainstorm using
knowledge about the chosen
environment.

An ability to use creativity and
imagination to think of his/ her
ideas in a 3D form.

Students should demonstrate:

An ability to develop imaginative
drawing skills to transpose his/ her
shoe design from description on
design brief into a drawing.

An ability to develop design with in
the four thumbnails provided.

An ability to perceive a drawing as a
3D object, drawing it from 2/3
angles.
The ability to design a shoe that has
functional elements and creative
design.
Students should demonstrate:

Develop skills in the use of general
tools, equipment and materials.

An ability to experiment and
manipulate cardboard to create
texture and specialised features
such as a microwave, a rocket and
skis.

An ability to translate his/ her
design effectively from 2D to 3D.

An ability to create a functional and
inventive form.
Students should demonstrate:

Willingness to cooperate and
contribute to the design workshop
and learning activities.

An openness to new ideas and
methods.

Willingness to overcome creative
and technical challenges.

Understanding of key design/
planning and drawing concepts.

parts of the shoe from 2/ 3 angles.

As homework, gathered a variety of
cardboard (e.g. cereal boxes and
cardboard left over from Christmas).
Evidence that the student:

Improved skills using tools and
equipment.

Completed an experimental sheet of
small swatches.

Tackled technical issues to resolve
the problem without straying from
design.
Manipulated material to achieve
desired form.
Created a unique design containing
creative functional features
successfully from a 2D design
sketch.
Displayed and photographed work
on the body. Completed work
includes design & swatch
worksheets and finished 3D shoe.
