The Problem
For years, school systems have been changing the education for each generation,
with the economy and society changing, so does the education provided.
Education today is too heavily influenced by math and sciences. What happened
to the concentrations of literature? History? Arts? Even Physical Education has
changed. The main problem is the lack of variety. We need more choices in
education before the University education comes. Bring back the priority classes!
When schools use to hold elective classes, variety in their systems, they were to
help prepare kids for the labor jobs in America. This set up has been working for
years now but with the recent events of the countries most recent recession. Job
employment has become a fierce competition. Which also made education
become a competition as well because employers will only hire the people with
the higher education now. Which are fine and all but this new set up for education
is a struggle for some. Others can't afford this while for some they try at this
education and college but it does not always work out for everyone. Also with a
few exceptions, all these maths and sciences kids are learning to help them for
college which will also help them get a great service job, what if that plan doesn't
go as well? These kids are prepared for those types of jobs and college. But that's
it. Most students don't have back up plans that is not included or related to
college or a service job. But what if they had a skill they could depend on? In
times of crisis for money to help them survive for a awhile while they try to get
back up on their feet for their college education or service job? Which brings up
of the possibility of bringing back those elective classes, kids can learn a few
skills from them to help them survive better or even make some money a bit
quicker for a side job. At some point though these jobs moved out of America
and service jobs were rising. As the labor jobs slowly died, so did the skills
generations learned for them in high school. With the rise of service jobs,
education became more influenced on science and math. This does not apply to all
but with the ways things are now in our education many students struggle with
their grades in school, because for some cases not all are that great certain maths
and sciences. These students stress and feel pressured, but there's always one
question thats is floating everywhere, "Why?" Why do we take these classes?
They don't help with my future career or life.
Not just with the cases of some of the classes not helping some students at all,
some have simply just lost interest. Education is so heavily influenced by maths
and sciences, language arts has changed, many art classes are gone, and physical
education can not even be considered as P.E. Some schools in the state does have
quite a few variety in class choices, but only a few.
The best solution to our problem is to give classes that
give hands on experience so that the students can
become more capable in their field. This will also help
students find what they really want to do by
experiencing it first hand. Doing so will save them
time that would be wasted if used in a profession that
they wouldn't follow later. We decided to pick this
solution because it will give the student experience in
the field or career they want to enter. Another reason
why we chose this solution is because students will
have more control over what classes they want to take
in school. Instead of the school controlling what
classes the student can take or have to take. This will
give students more freedom and flexibility of choosing
classes.
