A helical-bevel
speed reducer with an upward output V-belt connection has an input speed
of 1500 RPM with a total speed ratio of 20 : 1.
You are required to:
I Estimate the power that the gear unit can transmit based on static strength.
2 Check the suitability ofthe helical and bevel gears for dynamic loading.
3 Present a fully detailed f,'ree Hand Sketch for the gear unit assembly including the
rolling bearings in at least TWO VIXWS (Sectional Elevation and a Sectional Side
View passing rhrough the pinion of the second stage).

The equation T:npFur- is the same for both clutches designed under uniform pressure
distribution or under uniform wear distribution.
The bending stresses in flat belts are a function of belt thickness and pulley diameter.

B1 The locating bearing is bearing

82 The thrust load arising from the gear
should always be towards the right
direction.

B4 Bearing "A" is detachable but bearing

B5 The radial load on the shaft is carried

"C".
B6 The function of the spacer between
bearings "B" and
"C" is: to avoid oil to
reach the shaft.
B7 The spacer between bearings
"8"
and
"C" is never subjected to any thrust.
B8 Bearing "8" transfers the thrust arising
from the
gear
to the housing.
B9 The function of nut "D" is to avoid
shaft rotation during assembly.
810 To allow for axial freedom for the
shaft, bearing
<(8"
must be self-
alisnine.
