AGN030/1/2

SUGGESTED MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE

Equipment Description;
Brushless, Salient pole, Rotating Field, ac Synchronous Generators
OPERATING ATkVA..V.Hz
Within an Industrial / Marine Class H F B rating

Equipment Identity:
Newage BC / UC / HC ..
Winding N
o
..

Details of Specified: Environmental Conditions.

Specified Duty..

Suggested Regime.
DAILY ;

Check operator report.
Visual inspection of outside of generator frame, terminal box, and air inlet / outlet screens.
Check for any obstruction to air-in / air-out vents, and cooling air circuit to / from generator.
General observation for signs of any dust or liquid contaminant that may be entering
generator.
If the generator is fitted with anti-condensation heaters then check that they are working as
intended.
If the generator is fitted with dust or moisture [IP44] air inlet filters check that they are within
acceptably clean limits.

EVERY 250 HOURS OR 3 MONTHS;

If generator has been operating for 250 hours in a period of one month then only visual
inspection of running / stopped unit combined with audible check for unfamiliar sounds,
combined with Daily check will suffice.

If generator has not been used for more than 25 hours during elapsed 3 Months then
generator stator winding Insulation Resistance [IR] should be measured, and result recorded.

If generator fitted with dust air-inlet filters check pressure drop with view to cleaning /
replacing if above 12mm WG.
Re-charge Dust filters with oil if inspection shows them to be acceptably clean but dry.
For IP44 moisture filters check that all drain holes are clear.

EVERY 1500 HOURS OR 12 MONTHS;

Measure the stator winding IR, and record.
If recorded trend shows IR is low, suspect contamination on surface of winding necessitating
strip and clean required before insulation breakdown and burnout.
Monitor bearing[s] condition using proprietary bearing Condition Monitor, record results.
Remove terminal box lid and check condition / tightness of connections.

EVERY 4500 HOURS OR 3 YEARS;

Re-grease bearings[s].
If bearing[s] have are not fitted with re-grease pipework then regreasing will require the
removal of the outer bearing cap to gain access to the bearing. This is quite easy for the
NDE brg. However, if the generator is a two bearing unit access to DE brg. will require the
generator /engine assembly to be split. Obviously this is a major exercise. But asses the
risk, if the bearing condition monitoring record indicates a continued healthy trend, and the
flexible coupling shows no signs of element wear by evidence of rubber dusting, then
alignment must be good, bearing stresses minimal, condition monitoring trend indicates
lubrication still good, then the conditions of the DE bearing can be considered to be still
serviceable.

EVERY 15000 HOURS OR 10 YEARS;

Monitor the generating set vibration levels and check the results against those established
and recorded during original commissioning period and first 100 hours of operation.
If these vibration levels are above design criteria find reason by thorough inspection of Gset
base frame components & integrity of assembly construction. Note that increased vibration
levels will reduce genset component reliability.

Replace generator Bearing[s].
Replace NDE housing anti-creep O ring.
Inspect the condition of the bearing housings measuring and comparing with wear limits.

During bearing replacement with end brackets removed, conduct a thorough visual inspection
of winding condition of all wound components, and consult the recorded IR values, to decide
whether rotor should be removed and all wound components cleaned and re-impregnated.

Inspect the general condition rotating diode assembly components; clean and refurbish as
required.
