PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to provide a framework within which to guide West Kingston Power

1. INTRODUCTION
West Kingston Power Partners is committed to the development of the Country within which it operates and

Method of selection: A committee comprising personnel

Special requirements: Each applicant is expected to write
and submit a brief statement indicating how the bursary will
be used. Before submission, the student should show the
statement to a UWI lecturer in French in order to obtain their
agreement to act as a referee for the application. The lecturer
should indicate their agreement by including on the state-
ment, their name, position, and their email address. Note that
the applicant is still required to submit a completed referees
affidavit, which forms a part of the application form.

Specialist area of study: Allows successful applicants the
opportunity to study for a masters degree or PhD in the
social sciences, humanities and arts and some areas of
pure/applied sciences. No medicine, law or clinical psycholo-
gy studies can be supported at this time. The programme cov-
ers a year of expense, with renewal of funding possible for an
additional year (maximum funding for two years). The
research programme (NEXUS) and professional enrichment
programme (Humphrey Fellowship) and non-degree granting
exchanges.
Eligibility/Qualifications: Upper-second class or first-class
honours at the level of a bachelors degree, at an accredited
local university, is a minimum qualifier. Persons with exten-
sive United States (US) experience (have physically resided
and /or studied for six or more months in the US, are not eli-
gible. For this reason, persons who have already started a pro-
gramme of study in the US are ineligible. The applicant
should be a Jamaican citizen, but those having American
(dual) citizenship or permanent residency status (green card
holder) are ineligible.
Age: The programme is intended to contribute to the devel-
opment of a national pool of persons with a high level of
training in a variety of areas. The programme enables gradu-
ate students, young professionals to conduct research and
study in the US and experience the rich and varied culture of
the US.

3. ELIGIBILITY
a. All children who live in the Region 6 communities in the parishes of St. Catherine or Clarendon based on
the above-mentioned definition.
b. He or she is not a recipient of other scholarship programme
c. Scholarship to be awarded for study at a recognized / accredited secondary institution must be approved
and regulated by the relevant governing bodies.
d. An individual must be ten (10) years but not older than thirteen (13) years upon entry to the institution in
order to benefit from this programme.
e. Scholarship is provided for academic excellence and or financial need.
f. Applicable only to students who attend public schools
4. SELECTION PROCESS
a) The Ministry of Education Region (6) will be responsible for selecting the students based of performance
and location
JAMAICA ENERGY PARTNERS (JEP)
Jamaica Energy Partners recognizes the need for academic advancement in order
to foster economic development in Jamaica. The Company remains committed to
assist in laying the building blocks for academic success in the parish of St. Catherine
in which it operates. Two recipients will benefit from a scholarship of J$ 250,000.00
each per school year, payable per semester, covering tuition, books and material.
1. ELIGIBILITY
a. All students who have lived in the parish of St. Catherine for a minimum of
five years.
b. Scholarship to be awarded for study at a recognized / accredited tertiary institution
must be approved and regulated by the relevant governing bodies.
c. An individual must be twenty-one years (21) or younger upon entry to the institution
in order to benefit from this programme.
d. This award is eligible for students pursuing a Diploma or a Degree Programme.
e. All applicants must submit requisite proof of grades and acceptance letter from the
institution along with his / her application.
f. Scholarship is provided for academic excellence and or financial need.
g. The scholarship will be for a minimum of one year, provided that the student is able
to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of B or higher.
