Organizational Behavior

Assignments for
MPE DIV – B
2009-10
First Semester

1. Assignments are to be done by groups.


2. Each group will complete two assignments of 20 marks each.
3. Students will submit the assignments hard copy to Ms Ambika – Course
coordinator. Ms Ambika will in turn submit those to me.
4. Groups also need to share the completed assignments with each other to foster
learning
5. Both assignments to be submitted by 11th Nov 2009
6. PLEASE type the group member names and roll nos on the first page of each
assignment

Assignment 1 – 20 marks

On 4th October 2008 we had the entire class divided into groups of 8 members each and
the groups worked on a task - A problem of Desert Survival -with time boundaries.
The experience of working in the group has to be reviewed in as much detail. Groups
may like to note about,
Team composition, diversity in the group, various aspects of Problem Solving like
Defining the problems, strategizing, creating options based on known context, trying to
uncover and gather as much information from within the group and build on those ideas,
communication within the team, decision making method adopted, conflict resolution
styles, impact of individuals on the group processes, various roles that were played out –
e.g. harmonizing, seeking information, clarifier, etc….(who played those roles is not
important but what was the effect of those role on quality of the task and process of
solving the problem) the scores and change made by individuals in the second individual
ranking and hence the commitment to the decision……
You may also note how GROUPTHINK worked and SOCIAL LOAFING that happened
within the groups and impacted the quality of the decision
Groups may like to include some other aspects that I have not listed and groups are
welcome to do so.
PS.
Those who did not participate in DESERT SURVIVAL exercise will have to complete
alternate assignment and that is to be done by forming two groups.
Each group will review a film and write elaborately of the leadership style and team
development & dynamics in the film.

One group will review – LAGAN

Another group will review – Chak De India”


Assignment 2 – 20 marks

This assignment is to be done by 10 groups of not more than six members each

Select any organization where one of your group members belongs and use that as source
of information including real life examples and reference to complete the assignment
below.
(DO not name the organization and maintain confidentiality, if required)
You may refer the books mentioned in the teaching plan given to you. You need to
mention theory / concept/ framework/ model to clarify the examples

Group Assignment 1
1 Determinants of personality.
Use of instruments and/ or assessment of personality and matching requirement
of competencies for various roles. Elaborate one model of personality

2 Perceptual errors & Impression Management in the organizational settings

3 Enumerate any two Motivation Theories that form the basis of reward and
recognition in the organization to motivate employees

4 Path goal theory of leadership and its usefulness in the organization

5 Management of Diversity in the organization and Glass ceiling effect

6 Use of two learning theories and developmental efforts based on the theory in
the organization

7 Various Power bases used by employees and the way these are acted out
Ways of reducing politics in the organization

8 Impact of various Conflict resolving styles on the quality of decisions and


impact on employees

9 Blocks to creativity and impact on the organizational output

10 Two creativity tools and its application / use in the organization for
improvements
