2 INSERT AN APPROPRIATE TITLE HERE INTRODUCTION Young people not voting is large problem these days. 41.8 % of 18 to 24 years-old people did not vote while only 5.2% of 65 years or older people did not vote at 2011 NZ General Elections (Statistics New Zealand, 2014). 49% of 18 to 24 years old people were non-voters in USA. Also 63% of them were non-voters in UK, compare with only 30% and 25% of 65 years old or more people were non-voters in USA (Kirby, & Ginsberg, 2009) and UK (International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance 2006). Basic reasons why are individual voting does not make difference, few understandings about voting system, No interest in voting (Statistics New Zealand, 2014). It causes the problem that not enough people voting for elections. As a result, it may cause skewed election results. The solution for this is Election mobile app. It enables to do activities related elections through app like voting, seeing election results, seeing the information of politicians. Also, advanced activities can be used like chatting about policies with other users and politicians. 3. BUSINESS SECTION 3.1 Vision Bring every people to make right decisions for making the right world with fair, fun, easy and interesting elections. 3.2 Industry Analysis: Election mobile app industry Industry: Election mobile app industry. Providing information and activities related with election. Force: High/Low: Justification: Buyer power: Low As the buyer of this product would be Government of any country and currently very few such official apps exist. For example, IXSA

3 game for elections in South Africa (Electoral Commission of South Africa, n.d.), and Official app ECI Voters in India (Aslam, 2014). Supplier power: Low The supplier for this product is software products, on 2014 Worldwide Software Developer and ICT- Skilled Worker Estimates, about 18,539,500 software developers exist
(Avram, 2014). It can definitely say that there are plenty of choices of suppliers. Threat of new entrants: High Usually, it is easy to provide apps as many apps are already exist and it does not take time and cost a lot to set up and maintain. For simple app, it takes 2 to 4 weeks and cost about $1,500 to $4,000 to develop and for database app, it takes about 4 to 8 weeks and cost about $50,000 to $150,000 to develop
(Angeles, 2012). Threat of substitutes: High Possible substitutes can be going to voting place and vote directly, voting through websites, and get information of election by newspapers, TVs and website and so on. Rivalry among existing competitors: Low Only few similar products exist and the competition is complacent currently, the rivalry are low, but since weak entry barrier and technology development easily make newcomers to get in the industry. Also as Electronic voting which can be part of the app is growing rapidly
4
4 (Taylor, 2014). the market competition will be likely to be more intense day by day. Overall attractiveness of the industry: As this would be yet the new industry, it is attractive now. However, as the competition will be likely to become more intense, it may be less attractive in the future. 3.3 Customers and Thei r Needs The customer (buyer) of this business is Government of any country. As the goal of this product is to let more people vote on elections, users are not charged at all to use this app to make it more attractive for everybody. Also in order to maintain the quality of this as an official election mobile app, any advertisements of businesses which may cause such as brides and wrong voting are not shown. Their needs are as well as the vision of this product that to bring every eligible voters, especially young voters to vote in order to generate fair and correct election results as lack of people voting is the big issue nowadays. For example, 39.9% of eligible youth voters did not vote on 2008 NZ General Election (Statistics New Zealand, 2014). 3.4 The Product and Service Election mobile app provides activities related to elections which are first, electronic voting which eases people who live far from voting place. Secondly, sending users only relevant updates on policies which categorised on each users interests that avoid users to gain irrelevant information and make them more involvement on elections. Next, chatting with other users or politicians about any politic topics which make users more interested in elections. Also, MPs use the app to interact with community which make users feel more engaged with their MPs, and more interest of them would come up. Additionally, there is a points/achievements system to promote user to engage in discussion and a scoreboard which can be get by users to up-vote other ones comments like pressing like on other ones comment on Facebook. It would make users to feel like continuing participating. At last, for each topic/policy, users can vote for their preferred party with reasons and it can
5
5 gain points. It provides users more interactivity, engagement and feeling fun, then they are likely to continue using the app. 3.5 Suppliers and Partners Suppliers for this business would be software developers and designers, because complicated technologies are required to build this app such as personal identification. Also as majority people are likely to use the app, the design should be attractive for them. Next, partners for this business are app stores and MPs as the app must be put on the app store to be used and profits would be shared with them. Usually they take 30% of profit (Mackenzie , 2012). Also, MPs can use the app to promote themselves for their purpose. 3.6 Strategy: Focused High Cost The cost strategy of this product is high cost as there are currently only few products exist, the competition is complacent. Then, there is no benefit to offer the product for cheap price. Also, since this is the official app approved by Government and majority people would use it, the app must keep the high quality in order to avoid any error that might cause some wrong election result, and to manage plenty of activities to attract users. The competitive scope for this product is Narrow Market, because even though target users for the app are eligible voters in the world, the actual buyers are just Government. Thus the market this product targets to sell is very narrow. 3.7 Value Chain Activity: Technology and Development (and R&D). The most important value chain activity for this business is Technology Development (and R&D). Reasons why are first, no error must occur because this is again the official election app and any error may cause big problem such as the app that is not working may cause less people would be counted as voted. Next, the app needs to reform aligned with users needs and wants to keep it attractive for them, especially for young eligible voters who are the main target users of the app, and they always prefer new technologies and fashions. So it is necessary to research and develop the app all the time.
