WiMAX Network Parameter Planning and Configuration

WiMAX Network Parameter Planning and

Configuration
1 Overview
Currently, many network planning parameters are found incorrect or missed during the check
on parameters for all sites in the world. Many parameters with unclear definitions or indefinite
configuration methods are also found. After the parameters are sorted out, the PN planning
and configuration instruction is thereby proided for all WiMAX sites in the world.
Important Contents:
!. "euse of #$ permbase must be planned in non !%& networking.
'. (he permbase and P")*+, must be configured separately for ,$ *(C -one to generate
different scrambles and differentiate co.fre/uency sector signals.

2. (he +,C3$$ and segment +, of the first ,$ 4one are not configured separately. Code is
automatically obtained from Preamble +nde5.
6. (he permbase and P")*+, are shared by ,P 4one 0in the case of beam forming1 and
non ,P 4one. +t is unnecessary to plan the permbase and P")*+, of the ,P 4one

7. +n the 6 M84 networking, reuse of the #$ permbase is planned in the alue range of 9 to

:. (he preamble planning inoled in this document is updated in the AP#* ;!.:.&. When
the correctness of inputs is ensured, the planning results should comply with the planning
principles.

%)1 Pream&le Planning Prin'iple
Currently, a total of <7 preambles numbered from 9 to <6 are used for planning. A one.to.one
correspondence e5ists between preambles and +,C3$$%segment +,. (he alue of +,C3$$ ranges from
9 to &!, and the alue of *egment +, ranges from 9 to '. (he key of preamble planning is the +,C3$$
planning.
Principle= (he <7 geographically nearby co.fre/uency carriers are treated as a cluster 0the
shape of the cluster should be close to a s/uare1. (he <7 preambles are allocated on the
principle of +,C3$$ reuse in the longest distance. (he preambles are allocated and reused for
different clusters in the same manner, thus ensuring the ma5imum distance between sectors
with the same fre/uency and the same preamble.
%)% Pream&le Planning Met(od
#se the AP#* to plan the preambles. (he planning results include the planning of +,C3$$
and segment +,.
Note= (he AP#* inoles the reuse of +,C3$$ and segment +, in the longest distance,
laying a foundation for subse/uent #$ preamble planning.

* Planning and Configuration of Perm&ase and
P!+#ID
+n WiMAX networks, the generation of #$ and ,$ scrambles is related to permbase and
P")*+,. ,$ 4ones include P#*C -one, *(C P#*C, P#*C all -one, *(C P#*C all -one,
P#*C ,P -one, *(C P#*C ,P, P#*C all ,P -one, and *(C P#*C all ,P -one. 3ach 4one
has independent scrambles. (he scrambles of the first 4one are determined by +,C3$$ and
segment +,, without haing to configure the permbase and P")*+,. >or other 4ones, the
preamble and P")*+, need to be configured, but the preamble and P")*+, of ,P 4ones are
combined with those of non ,P 4ones. (he enabling of beam forming does not inole the
modification of permbase and P")*+,.
#$ 4ones include only P#*C -one and P#*C all -one but do not include *(C and ,P 4ones.
(herefore, the generation of #$ scrambles is related only to ,$ +,C3$$, and there is no #$
P")*+,. (he #$ permbase should still be configured for #$ sub.carrier mapping and #$
ranging code generation.
*)1 Perm&ase and P!+#ID Planning Prin'iples
(he permbase has &' alues like +,C3$$, and the P")*+, has three alues like the segment
+,. After combination, a total of <7 scrambles can be generated. (he planning principle of
these scrambles is the same as that of preamble inde5. (o simplify the planning, assign the
alue of +,C3$$ directly to the permbase of ,$ 4ones. (he P")*+, is e/ual to
M?,0segment +, @ !,&1. (he alue of P")*+, complies with the protocol specification after
+C+C is enabled, thus achieing backward compatibility with +C+C.
(he #$ preamble planning mainly concerns the #$ sub.carrier mapping to reduce the
interferences caused by co.fre/uency sectors. +n the !%& networking, the #$ permbases should
be consistent in the whole network, thus ensuring that no interferences e5ist between co.
fre/uency and inter.segment sectors. +n With All networking, permbase is reused in co.
fre/uency sectors. >or planning simplicity, the alue of #$ permbase is the same as the alue
of ,$ +,C3$$ in with All networking. 0Note= When the AP#* is used to plan preambles, the
planning results already concerns the reuse of +,C3$$ between co.fre/uency sectors.1
+n 6 M84 bandwidth networking, #$ permbase has !: alues ranging from 9 to !7. (herefore, in 6 M84
bandwidth networking, !: co.fre/uency sectors are used as a cluster to reuse the #$ permbases. (o
reuse code, the AP#* ;!.:.& treats !7 co.fre/uency sectors numbered from 9 to !6 as a cluster for
planning.

(he ranging code is a pseudo.random se/uence that is !22 bits long. (he protocol specifies
the generation modes of ranging codes. (he generated se/uence is related only to the alue of
#$ permbase, but the alue of one permbase can generate '67 ranging codes. (he ranging
codes are classified into four types= +", P", )", and 8". (he current product supports a code
set constituted by four ranging codes of each type. (herefore, a carrier re/uires only !7
ranging codes, and '67 codes can be allocated to !7 carriers.
(he ranging code planning mainly inoles the alues of C,MAE"?#P*(A"( in
Carrier+asi'Info of MM$ configuration. (he '67 codes are grouped into !7 code sets, and
the start position of each code set is !7n 0n indicates an integer ranging from 9 to !61. (he
ranging code planning is to plan the start positions of these code sets.
8)1 Prin'iples of !anging Code Planning
+n the #$ !%& networking, because #$P3"M)A*3 is the same, the generated '67 ranging
codes must be reused between co.fre/uency carriers. (he alue of C,MAE"?#P*(A"( is
!7n 0n indicates an integer ranging from 9 to !61, and there are totally !7 alues.
+n With A$$ networking, because the alues of #$A$$P3"M)A*3 of adAacent co.
fre/uency carriers are different, the ranging code sets generated by the adAacent carriers are
different and do not interact een though the alues of CM,AE"?#P*(A"( are the same.
(o keep the consistency with the !%& networking, it is suggested to classify !7 co.fre/uency
sectors into a cluster to reuse the ranging codes.
